article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
I bugged out for Hurricane Jeanne and brought my Professional Boatbuilder with me. in the current issue is a great article on the development of the SeaCraft hull design and the Man who got the boat company off the ground. It is in a Magazine and not on the computer.
I am at my sister in laws and will try to get it scanned. if i am able to scan it, i will e-mail it to anyone interested in reading it. I recommend it. Buzzcutt |
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
I too would like to see the article on the site.

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
If you scan it, email the file to Trayder. If you only have it in paper form, you can mail him a copy. Either way, contact him at admin@classicseacraft.com .

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
I'd love to see it but be careful about copyright infrigements. Make sure that you get permission from the magazine publisher first. I'd hate to see anyone here get in trouble.

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
Nah, it's fine. It's for a non promotional/editorial purpose.
Don't you think Mark? |
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
im going to try and scan it tonight and send it to trayder
|
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
I sent a request to professional boatbuilder asking permission to post the article on the site. Will inform all of thier findings.
It's a good article, worth the read. BuzzCutt |
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
Anything new on getting a copy of the article?
|
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
I have sent e-mails to the magazine, I have called and left messages. No joy on either.
I have also looked through the magazine quite cosely and have found no copyright statements regarding articles or art work. I would prefer to have thier permission before posting entire article, but if they ignore requests...? I will keep trying today. |
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
buzz,
Please email me your scanned images of the article.. Thanks, Rich |
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
I've adopted a new approach that I have found to run fairly true -
"It's easier to applogize than it is to ask for permission" |
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
It seems you can re-print articles as long as you have all the credits and who originally printed it included.

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
I have emailed the article to trayder- I think he is going to contact the magazine for their ok. The article will be worth the wait. The content is great and so are the pictures

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
As Finster stated, if it is used in context, given credit as to the original source, and used for non-commercial, editorial, and educational purposes, I think you are in the clear.
I got a call from Mike at Wildfire about the article but the hurricane clean-up has kept me from making it 3 miles over there to see it! something to look forward to I guess |
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
Great article!!!
It sheds a little light on something I was trying to get across on another post, but it came out wrong. I have no disrespect for Potter, and the potter era boats, but I think Moesly was one of the most influential people designing, building, and constructing boats in the history of the industry. I know a few people that worked with Moesly/SeaCraft early on when the SeaCraft/Merc connection just started. They really brought these boats, and the industry light years ahead. Some of the stuff they was really out there for it's time. My opinions where based on conversations and "war stories" that I had heard over at my mechanics shop (former rigger for seacraft during the moesly era). It was nice to have a less "colorful", but more complete article. |

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
Wow that is a great read, I did not realize all that Carl Moesly did in regards to the design phase of the boat building industry and with SeaCraft’s. Now it makes me wonder how did we get from there to now with Tracker??? Maybe we could see another turnaround for the company like Harley has seen in choppers.

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
Do we know if anyone has one of these original 21's? Or if any are still around? That would be cool!
Otto you thinking what I'm thinking?...... |
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
The Seavette may be the closest boat to a racer left, but it's a Potter design. I'm sure there has to be one out there somewhere. BTW- what is a Scamper 15,Seaquarius 20 and a Seavilla 27.-PF

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
A scamper came up on ebay a couple of years ago. It's a first generation tri-hull, and I thought it couldn't possibly be a Sea Craft....
|
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
I'm waiting for the mag to arrive. Can't wait.
Fellow Ship - The only way SeaCraft will ever make a comeback is if WE buy the company and get Potter on board as a consultant. Finster - I knew Carl Moesly and a SeaVette is no Moesley... |
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
he grew up a few blocks from where I did (a few decades prior). Lauderdale was a different world back then...Neat guy!

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
Thanks Ryan, Buzz and Trayder for sharing . . . What a great story.
Anyone know why he's living so far away from the ocean (Western North Carolina??) |
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
Alot of Florida natives are retiring to the mountains in N. Carolina. Florida isn't what it used to be, and I don't blame them.

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
Fantastic story. I recently ordered a subscription and am waiting for the first issue to arrive.
Otto - great minds think alike. Been thinking of ways to raise the capital and buy Seacraft from Tracker. Ed |
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
Just for fun, I did a 411.com. Interesting what you find:
Carl Moesly lives in Otto, NC, ironically, a couple of hours from the new SeaCraft/Mako facility. MapQuest |
Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft Hist
ED and Otto - He's an idea. What about starting a boat company called "classic seacraft" (that builds seacrafts the old fashion way) wait for Jonny Morris's seacraft company to go belly up (which it will) and buy the name back.

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft Hist
I think anyone who owns a Potter built shouldn't be allowed to play in the Mosley built club.... ... The Mosley club will take the girls... the Potter boy's can have Otto....

Thanks to Ryan I just posted the rest of the article

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
That sure sheds some light on the Moesly - Potter relationship.....

Re: article on Carl Moesly and early SeaCraft History
Big Shrimpin-
I like your idea! I've actually been toying with the idea of contact venture capitalists to see what's the possibility of raising money. I have no idea as to how much it would cost... I do know that when Reebok used to own Boston Whaler they wound up selling it to Brunswick for some paltry sum...like a $1 million. I would expect Seacraft would fetch a lot more these days. Anyone related to Donald Trump or Mark Cuban? -Ed- |

For instance, in the two years Moesly served as chairman, the company became worthless. Think about it. Either he was an honest to goodness CEO and therefore responsible for the decline, or he was a consultive figure head. If the latter was the case, he had no business butting heads with the management/owners. He should have stepped out of the way, otherwise he becomes part of the problem. It's a very interesting article though and well worth reading. |
