$950!!!! "Deal" is an understatement. Sweet boat Otto.

That thing needs to be placed in the SC museum that Otto and Finster are starting.

The "story" is on the above link. 200 something hours, registered in MO (Mississippi Queen) "fresh" water; spider cracks and a transom anomoly yet to be determined. But I like the fact that it appears all original except for the seats. Fun project for 2007.

The 23 made it into the shop yesterday, now that the weather has "gone south" I hope to have her refitted and ready to sea trial in January (if there is any open water).

I'll be selling the 2003 Dauntless and use the 23 next season. Next winter is the 20' Seafari project that I feel is going to be my favorite. Being out of "big" boating for a while, I sincerely look forward to finally having the time to work on and enjoy these projects.

I found these guys on classic whaler:

RAD Transport, Joe 1-800-528-0719 x102.

They specialize in shipping boats, cars, trailers (i.e. toys) You'll have your rate the same day and they get right on it. I had a boat picked up last week and the feedback was that the driver was a real pro - knowing how to load and secure boats (and outboard) singled handed. They use special 2 tier trailers for smaller boats and have access to other equipment for larger items. One thing is for sure, they hustle. Highly reccomended.

Man I came so close to bidding on that boat!!!! I had the drive out to St Louis all figured out, then decided to listen to the voice of reason-I don't really need two Seacrafts.......... yet..........

Looks really nice, classic lines- I think it's the coolest looking Seacraft I've seen.

Otto,
What's going on around the outdrive? There looks to be a triangular shape that's a different color than the hull.

Good to see the inspector approves.

Re: Now look what you've made me do...

Having bought her sight unseen, it's hard to say what's up with the transom. Knowing that replacing the transom is a foregone conclusion, it doesn't matter much. It looks like someone made an effort to repair the area and didn't finish. That's what you get when you let the "inspector" do your due dillegence instead of surveying for yourself.

I know Don has an 88 HP on this hull. Any idea what would be the smallest OB to push her at a 25 MPH cruise moderately loaded? I'm thinking 90 or 115.

Chris & Scott - you guys are like 2 little boys - that like to be bad. But I have to admit Scott, your image of Finster in my new Moesly looks just like him...

Oh, yea, I already have a name for her - Mr. Moesly ...

Very nice, they sure don't get more classic than that one. Great buy too! Lots of luck Otto.- Paul
BTW: I did a web search for a museum in Florida or anywhere for that matter, dedicated to power boat racing and development where you might find a Mosley SeaCraft 21 and I don't think one exists. Does anyone know if there is one?

Finster 10-14-2004 08:00 PM

Re: Now look what you've made me do...

PF, thats been our thoughts too. If one can be found I am sure someone here will find it. But my gut tells me that they're weren't many of them built and the only mass produced Moesly hull is the one Otto and Don have. That would be cool to find one of those early 21's.

Otto.. we are boat buddies now!!!!.. let's go for a ride ..I'll drive.. Real world numbers, 27mph @4200- 29.1mph @5000- 32.1mph @ 55000 with my 88SPL 26 gallons of fuel and the hard top with enclosure. I'd go with the 115, the 90 will only do a little bit better..

The 65 Moesly 19 Bowrider arrived today via RAD Transport from St. Louis:
http://www.foodmachinery.com/Boats/1...oesly%2019.jpg

The good new is that the transom seems fine, as does the motor and driveline. Even the floor is solid. But she has a lot of hairline cracks throughout the hull and interior.

http://www.foodmachinery.com/Boats/1...y%2019 (4).jpg
http://www.foodmachinery.com/Boats/1...y%2019 (1).jpg
http://www.foodmachinery.com/Boats/1...y%2019 (9).jpg

Bottom line is that to do her justice, I would have to remove the cap and liner, make glass repairs, paint and put her back together and re-wire her. No small task, but a funn project for 2006...

ocuyler 11-07-2004 06:58 PM

Re: Now look what you've made me do...

Strick,

That trailer is on an incline and has a rail down the middle with a 2" ball connected to a winch, so they can pull it on and off. There are ramps on the back. Slick setup. I wanted to use our forklift, but he had it safely on the ground in less than 5 minutes.

Re: Now look what you've made me do...

Mine's nicer then yours.. Just kidd'in Otto.. Looks good, hope you get it in the water soon. Mine has the same cracks on the cap as yours does. It looks like most were caused by the fact that fiberglass boat building was still new to most. None of the screw hole were drilled with the right plot bit and thus caused a lot of the cracking you have around the holes. Plus colored gel doesn't take the sun well either

ocuyler 11-08-2004 04:09 PM

Re: Now look what you've made me do...

Don,

Thanks for the comments. There are ALOT of "spider" cracks all over the boat, but nothing looks deep or structural. Like you said, my sense is that the gel coat was not as good as what we have today.

I feel pretty obligated to grind out the 80 miles of spider cracks down to the glass with a narrow abrasive wheel and fill it with West System 2 part with filler. Do you think that will take care of it or will they come back through the new paint when I start beating the crap out of it?

Any comments on repairing spider cracks will be appreciated.
