Va.Beach Seacraft Rockfish tournament results
Held our 1st annual seacraft owners tournament today in what I am sure will turn into an annual event!!! Geat mtg some new seacraft people and although it wasnt a real large turnout everyone caught some fish and there were some pretty fish as well. My son came home from college in fredricksburg to fish with me and mike and watching him catch a few for the first time in years was worth it for me. I survived a slicled thumb (wire line burr) and a hook in finger and we caught a nivce mess of fish keeping 5 in the 36 inch range. Nothing worth weighing although it wouldnt have looked to good if I had won my own tournament,. Anyways first place went to Fred Tyler Jr on "Fightin Lady"with a 26 lb 11 oz 40 something inch fish. 2nd place went to Gary Hill and crew on the "Knot Working" with a 26lb 10 oz. fish. Great job guys!!!!Enjoyed mtg Keith and Jason on "Mega-Bite(beautiful seacraft, Graham on "Doghouse", and Charlie Sneed and son on "Donna Sea". Also nice to see and have Capn Lee fishing with us on her friends brand spanking new 25' seacraft."Sugar Mama". If only my boat was as pretty as some of y'alls!!!! Nice to bloody up the decks though!!!Only 7 boats for our inagural tournament but we caught in excess of 100 rockfish with lots of quality fish, and had a great time hanging out and talking "theories". Thanx again all for a great time, pictures will come soon. Craig
Love the boat and the engines. They are a little loud, but plenty of power on the 23' and as you said - very fuel efficient. The control system they have is also very good - the two engines work together very well. |
Re: Va.Beach Seacraft Rockfish tournament results

Craig
That looks great !!! That’s the standard post ?? and not the mini (I don’t think you can get the mini in the 10"seat) 38" x 10" ?? Can you still use the rod holders in the launcher or does the seat back interfere with the rods? |
Re: Va.Beach Seacraft Rockfish tournament results
DonnaSea
Some Questions for you ... What type of cruise #'s are you getting and @ what RPM?? What’s are the WOT #'s?? What are your fuel #'s ?? (typical cruise range) ... Like I said that single on the whaler was getting insane mileage When you say they are loud ... How bad or compared to what ? I didn’t feel the 135 Opti on the whaler was too bad |
Re: Va.Beach Seacraft Rockfish tournament results
Scott..
I have not been keeping a record, so let me try to answer some of your question now and next weekend, weather permitting, I plan to go out and I will record some specific fuel consumptions at specific RPMs. It will be interesting to see how those numbers will compare to numbers that you are getting.. To give you an idea on range - I have a 135 gallon tank. Last time I went off shore I covered 200 miles - ran out in the dark at 15 mph and back in at 25-30 mph. Trolled several hours at 5-6 mph and used 80 gallons. Last weekend I was trolling at 2 mph and was using .3 gallons per hour per engine. As far as loud - compared to my son's 150 yamaha. But - as my son has pointed out - I have 2 engines and he has one. Also I think his console is a little further forward than mine so you are not on top of the engine. But - at speed it is loud. Not sure what you mean by WOT #'s? Any specific RPMs you would like me to record? I'll get back to you next weekend. Charlie |
Re: Va.Beach Seacraft Rockfish tournament results
hey Scott-
yes its the standard post- 38" x 10"seat. the rod holders are still usable with the back in but not really fishable with trolling rods because your line will rub the back/bottom of the seat back. i woody waxed it along with all my other bright work today and man if that stuff aint sweet !!!(high as hell too) my back feels so much better with support on a run now, its really feels like a whole new boat. with the hydraulic steering i can sit back, adjust it a little now and then and relax.it wouldnt be the same either without the footrest- i figured that out pretty quick as well. oh so nice, lol. I did use those 1/4"x20 toggles when mounting it to my deck- 2 in each leg, and big screws siliconed in the other two holes. its very , very, solid. i always wondered how well those ss toggle bolts worked, now i know. next time i have my top off i will go back and use them again as well. one other thing about the toggles in my deck (kinda getting away from tournament talk huh) i had to cut down on each side of the toggle because there was not enough space between the deck and my fuel tanks. If i remember right it was about 3/8" on each side to allow enough room to pull it back up after inserting it in the hole. now im thinking of awlgripping the deck this winter cause it looks like sheet where the old swingback seats footprint was. Re: Va.Beach Seacraft Rockfish tournament results
Charlie ...Thanks for that info ...
WOT=Wide Open Throttle ...Just curious what kind of speed/mph and fuel use numbers you get when you open those puppies up !!! I dont have those engines ....but they are something I would consider ( after running my friends Whaler) and his mileage ....well it sips fuel AS far as numbers ... just something in the cruise range 3-4,000 rpms, speed and fuel consumption ...That would be great. Craig .... That post does look nice !!! Sorry we slipped away from the tourny talk ... great info none the less !!! |
Re: Va.Beach Seacraft Rockfish tournament results
Craig,
are you gonna fish the mid atlantic rock tourney on jan 13? Graham |
Re: Va.Beach Seacraft Rockfish tournament results
hey graham, how gozit ??? that tournament is too rich for my wallet(entry fee plus, ...beer )the rules look very complicated to a simple mind like mine also. - depending on the weather though i will probably fish the tf tournament, i think its the week before ?? how about you???
|
Re: Va.Beach Seacraft Rockfish tournament results
I'm gonna do the mid, there's quite a chunk of change at stake there.

Re: Va.Beach Seacraft Rockfish tournament results
hey gahram- saying 20k with 50k for calcutta??? think im going to round up a crew- ill wait till a couple of days prior to the tournament though to sign up-in case its blowing 40 and 10 degrees out. might try and get a slip in rudee also.
|
Re: Va.Beach Seacraft Rockfish tournament results
Probably a good call on watching the weather. I think there's a date at which the entry fee goes up a bit though, a week or so before I believe. If you want a spot in rudee, I might have an open slip for a day or two, just gimme a shout that week and I'll let you know.
