23 SeaCraft CC in NJ

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
Anyone have any thoughts on that motor?
|
Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
I agree! Trailer looks too small...

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
Yeah, you're right about the trailer. It would fit my 20 pretty nice

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
Abe,
Ed Mancini has the same motor and seems to like it a lot. I've been on his boat (23' Mako) a couple times, and it runs great and has no problem pushing the boat. Last summer, Ed did a marathon trip of running down to my house in Hull from Newburyport by water (50 miles), then the following morning we went down into Cape Cod Bay (35-40 miles), and reversed the route later that day. If I remember correctly, he burned 70 gallons while travelling 140 miles, netting 2mpg. Not bad for a no frills 2 stroke. The whole time, the engine never sputtered or hiccupped, nothing. Seems to be a great motor. A buddy of mine had a '00 200 and raved about it too. |
Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
I'll run up and check it out if anyones interested.

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
I have an 03' of the same engine.I was somewhat reluctant to buy it,but I got it for 5 grand and figured I'd run it till she blew up,but it has really been great. It's on a 25'x 10'center console and I fish her almost daily. It sips fuel and oil for a 225 2 stroke, starts on the first try,and so far hasn't missed a beat. One draw back is she takes 12 spark plugs every 100 hrs.

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
Doesn't Rodney have the 225 also???

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
Scott-
Thanks for the feeback. I know nothing about those motors, I see so few of them on boats where ever I go. Grew up an OMC guy and now a fan of the Yamahas. This boat looks pretty nice from the pics. Abe's Rocket. |

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
Jeff, It's about an hour north for me. If your serious about it. I'll check it out on tues. when I am going by there. Of cource I'll have to check with the owner first.

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
Thanks, I did not realize it was that far. Unfortunately it is more of a pipe dream than reality. too many logisitcs and variables to make happen (mainly lack of adequate slip space). It is awfully tempting though, I have been looking for the right 23' at the right time for about 5 years now...

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
Finster, I would appreciate it if you drive by and check out the boat,,,,Thanks....Tim

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ

Jason,
Glad it worked out, I was getting worried when I saw that user ID. Look forward to seeing it at the BBQ R |

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
Congrats to the new owner/ soon to be new member of the site. I was watching the eBay bid out of curiosity and am confused. How can a bid be won w/ a "But It Now" when it did not seem like a "Buy It Now" was an option ? |
Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
Gentlemen,
That, my friends, is a good deal. Trayder - you do not need a 23, you just need a friend with a 23... Congratulations! |
Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
So is it fair to assume that this boat for $11k was a good deal?
I was just wondering for the next one that comes along... AR |

Plus looks like a Furuno GPS/Fishfinder, Radio and VHF. Sounds like this guy is upfront about the boat given the talk about the trailer and motor. Even with the questionable trailer this is one that had to have alot of people thinking long and hard!! Hopefully Trayders neighbor will find out what a deal he got!!! I was surprised at the "buy it now" price to begin with !! Seafari ... I thought the same thing !!! |
Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
I agree with you 100% about everything...what got me was that the bottom had all that crap still on it. It made me think twice about the condition of everything else...oh well.

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
I currently own a 1992 20' Sunbird with a 1997 175 HP Johnson. I have had the boat for several years and ready to move up in size.
The boats that I have the most interest in are Seacrafts, Kencrafts, Makos and Parkers. I want a boat in the 22 to 23 foot range. I want a cc and my family members would probably prefer a WA. I have been following all relevant boat links quite closely. I spoke to the gentleman who was selling the 23 foot Secraft in question. If I had my boat ready to sell, I may have pounced on the 23 footer, but it is not ready so I did not. $11K did seem like a very reasonable price. the guy I spoke was selling it for a friend. When I asked him about the compression on the engine he said that they did not know it because the engine runs fine. Because I got burned on my last engine, this left me being a little skeptical. However for 11k, I could have blown up that Suzuki and gotten a new replacment engine for $11k or so. Some quick questions for those Secraft experts out there. How does the 23 foot WA ride compared to the CC? Also, are trim tabs recommended for either boat or not? Lastly, I don't want to start a running debate out there but would you take a lates 70's/early 80's Secraft instead of a more recent year Mako or Kencraft? Oh, one more quick question. i read on this site that Poetter made them through the late 70's, then a very reuptable caribbean yact company took them over, and then Tracker came in. Is there really that much of a drop off in quality on the Tracker made boats? |

Yes and customer service SUCKS! |
Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
PeterB,
First off, welcome to the site. You'll find all the info you'd ever want to know about SC's here. WA vs. CC ride - due to helm placement of the 2 boats and the additional weight carried forward in the WA, you will notice a difference in ride. With the CC, you are placed aft and in the center of the hull, pretty much the "sweet spot" when it comes to ride comfort. With the WA (and the same goes for the Sceptre cuddy model), you're forward and off to the side, so the ride seems a little more harsh. Trim tabs - recommended for lateral leveling of the boat, but not necessary for planing purposes. However, if you carry heavy loads often, or you really want to punch through a head sea, tabs are a must. SC vs other makes - well, this is a SeaCraft site after all. Timeline and Tracker quality - I suggest doing some searching on this site and you'll come up with a general concensus of Tracker's quality, plus you'll find a very comprehensive timeline of who owned SC and when. |
Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
Trayder, nice to see another SC in the neighborhood

Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
I think I have to get myself a ride in a SC 23CC. I own a 23 Tsunami w/ an i/o ( aka Sceptre ) and the ride is absolutely insane - it's perfect in most any snot. I am not arguing about the possibility that a 23 CC model rides better due to the aft weight and center of the helm - but if the ride is even noticable between a Tsunami and a CC - I would be surprised and impressed. Maybe a 23 Tsunami w/ an i/o rides as well or better than a 23 CC due to the heavy weight of the engine and a bravo III drive ? As for a walkaround - they seem like they would be even more bow heavy than a Tsunami. As we all know different sea conditions warrant different hull attitude/tab adjustment and speed. The different sweet spots on the hull vary with the different conditions so much - that I learn more every day I am on the boat ( although 'born on the water', I am relatively new to a SC w/ only 150 hours in my 1st season - so I respect the opinion of others w/ years of experience on these boats ). I find in calm seas, my boat rides best w/ a moderate to light power trim - skimming along. In rougher seas, she likes the trim almost all the way down - it seems so more of the entry V can cut through the rough chop. If I trim her up in a rough sea, she definitely does not ride as smoothly as when the bow is more down - she seems to bounce around too much. As for trim - sheeeet! These boats and trim tabs were made for each other. You must have trim tabs. Period. In a stiff wind or a quarter chop - you lift that side of the hull up to the chop and wind and the hull maintains it's deep V symmetry - the ride is simply unbelievable. With that same condition and no trim tab adjustment - you might as well be in any boat! However, most other boats w/ trim tabs - once brought to symmetry just do not have the Sc deep V. Anyway, I would like to hear if anyone has experienced both a 23 Tsunami and a CC for rideability ? ABL |

To further qualify my statement, I'm not saying the Sceptre's ride is by any means poor, it is just a different feel due to the balance and weight distribution of that model vs a CC. Regarding Sceptre I/O vs Sceptre OB (and even Sceptre IB for that matter), I have ridden in them all. IMO, the IB rides best due to the engine low and in the center, next is the I/O due to the weight of a V8, and lastly is the OB. |
Re: 23 SeaCraft CC in NJ
Scott, wait until you ride in the vette. You sit almost on the transom and when your getting on plane you just about have to get on you tippy toes to see over the bow.
With the additional weight in the front and the helm so far back is why the boat rides so nice. |
