Connecticut get together?

Is there any interest in a Ct get together this summer? I have been checking this site for three years now and I feel I know alot of you but have never met face to face. I don't often post because I am logged on at work. Great site I love all the info and pesonalities.

Anyway, I am in Westbrook and can probably squeeze 4 more boats at my dock with some rafting. There is a marina with launch right down the street and great fishing around the area, and Duck Island is right outside the harbor, any ideas? Thanks guys.

Re: Connecticut get together?

Sure! I'll trailer from Norwalk to Westbrook, How is the fluke run up by you? I just moved from Stamford to Wilton, CT so I have to learn new fishing grounds around the Norwalk Islands. I also plan on going to Newport to see Jason and the guys during JazzFest on Aug 12th. Either way we should get some guys together and share our CSC big fish secrets. Jim.

Re: Connecticut get together?

It's about time somebody responded, I was beginning to feel rejected. All kidding aside the fluke run is pretty good around June and produces fairly consistent throughout the summer. With the NY regs changing this year I hope more of those doormats will come deeper into the sound. I'll be glad to share some of my techniques.

Since you are the first to respond what do you think would be a good weekend? I am also going to try and attend the Jazzfest get together so we will keep it away from that weekend. Any suggestions from you or the rest of the guys would be appreciated. Thanks for responding.

Re: Connecticut get together?

I'd be up for a little get together.I launch at Old Saybrook and sometimes Clinton, in fact I might try to slip or rack down that way if I can find a place.
First, I have to get working on repairing my bottom the insurance co sent the check the other day, so I have to order some glass/resin and find a warm place to do it.
Pretty much any time is good with me, and I would like to learn some flukin spots out that way.I've had some good striper trips out there, but not much on the fluke.I would say head across to the north shore of L.I. but I haven't seen what they set up for regs next year - is it worse than last?

Re: Connecticut get together?

Hey Brian, How does June sound? We can track the run and pick a weekend when the currents are in our favor. What's best Ebb/ Flood? (both I hope). Of course It's bound to be windy the days we pick. You mentioned you have a dock, if not I will launch. We have to confirm our date/s by mid May so I can ensure I am off. Man, I cant wait to fish this spring. I'm counting the days until trout season opens then turkey season, then the SeaCraft. The boat will be sleeping in New Haven until then so if you hear of fish around you better let me know! Re: Connecticut get together?

Early June would be better. I am a teacher and the end of the school year becomes very hectic, also the local shark tourneys are at the end of June. I do have a dock and I could probably squeeze 3 or 4 boats on it for the weekend, the only problem is hight you need to be able to get under the singing bridge near Bill's Seafood. There is about 4-5 feet under it at high tide, boats with T tops or Hard tops would have to play the tide. My 20 SF fits any time and my 25 Whitewater cuddy needs to fold the Bimini down at high tide, not sure about a Seafari of Scepter with windsheild height. I am open to suggestions on dates. I guess we need to watch the Fluke run.

PS Anybody going to the Fishing show this weekend at the Expo?

Billybob 02-15-2005 03:21 PM

Re: Connecticut get together?

Sounds like a plan. I just got the check from the insurance co so now I can get crankin on the repair.
Hey Brian, are you in that Dick's/Beechnut marina? That's one I was considering - I should have no problems with the bridge.
Anyway - hurry spring

June 4th 2005: 1NM south of Kelsey Pt
Sunrise 05:18
Flood 06:44
Slack 09:27
Ebb 11:21
Sunset 20:15
New moon on the 6th
Spring Tide Currents up to 2 kts.
The day before or after is good too. If the fish are there, I'll be stealing space on your dock whenever I can! Nice day today (Feb 15th) I need to fish bad. Checked under the boat cover and saw some bucktails hanging off the console and it smells like fish under there. I may go to the Expo on friday, not dealing with the crowd on Sat though. Take care, Jim.

Re: Connecticut get together?

Billybob; I have water access from my house which is on the Patchouge river, Beach nut is on the Menunketesuk river. The two join up at the mouth into Westbrook. To get to my dock you would need to go under the singing bridge which is a little lower than the bridge near Beach nut.

Jim; Where did you get that info, it looks very specific. Nice.

That day looks good from here but who knows about the weather and the fish, lets pencil it in. Any othe CT or NE Seacraft guys out there, all are welcome.

I live in Northern NJ and just purchased a 1977 23' Seacraft CC. It has some nice elecronics and twin 150's on it. However, it needs some real TLC (such as reupholstry and the like).

I would love to get some ideas and see what other people have donw with their boats.

Is this invite extended to NJ SeaCrft owners or should I be looking elsewhere?

hey My name is Chaz. I live in Wallingford and boat out of Branford.I'm always in for a good run. I have a 1978 23 Sceptre. I have a marlin tower but I do like to go to Bill's. And yes I can't wait for spring

Hello all- My name is Eric. I have a 1972 20F. I run out of Branford. Chas told me about the meet. Flukin in June sounds good. Fillet and release!

Re: Connecticut get together?

Alright, it looks like we have some interest for "Flukin in June" as coined by PickledRick. Jim's suggestion of June 4 looks good from here, who knows what will happen as we get closer to the date. I need ideas from you guys. Where should we meet, my house, Long Sand Shoal, Duck Island, change of venue, whatever? Should we compete for biggest doormat with a couple of bucks from each boat or just fish and enjoy ourselves? Any ideas or suggestions from you guys would be great.

Re: Connecticut get together?

Hey Brian, As long as your schedule is good in June, lets go for it. As far as my boat, I'll probably launch at the closest ramp to you and follow any leads to the nearest school of fish. Is that a public ramp? We can pick a working frequency on VHF and monitor our guys as they come and go. Good idea to have a cell phone list for backup. Of course we have to have a pool for biggest fluke, maybe even Bass, misc? I'll post the tide/current data from the Nobeltec software so everyone can plan some drifts over the weekend. If you can post the nearest motel, that works for me. Also, to all of our guys familiar with that area, can you get fresh shiners or well kept frozen ones in the area? Any weakfish around then? Has anyone been fishing? I'm getting real impatient lately, hope the spring heats up fast this year. Take care, Jim.

Bryan A. 03-18-2005 07:04 AM

Re: Connecticut get together?

The closest ramp to me is Pier 76, the ramp is OK they bang you for about 15$ for a one day pass. There are plenty of bait shops around if you need anything. Locally the fisherman hang out on VHF CH 71, we may want to pick something different if the bite is good. We have alot of hotels or B and B type places around, which do you prefer?
Just a reminder to you guys if you want to leave your boats at my dock for the weekend I can probably squeeze 3 or four on the dock, so if you need a spot let me know.
Should we post cell#'s here or PM them around.

My stepdad has a 70's 20' Cuddy, I told him about a CT gettogether and he can't wait- he's in. Post the date everyones meeting and I'll let him know

Re: Connecticut get together?

So far the day is Saturday, June 4 of this year. The meeting place has not yet been agreed upon but I would like to suggest my private dock which is up the Patchogue river in Westbrook past Bills Seafood. I will have a small prize for the first boat to tie up, more info to follow when I get some pics.

jcurto 03-24-2005 04:48 PM

Re: Connecticut get together?

Ha, that small prize better be an ice cold beer! In case I'm late though, I'll have some Molson swimming in the bait cooler. Funny thing, I grew up in Patchogue, Long Island, NY, I guess it's fate for my CSC. She wants out from her cover so bad, waiting for the fish to return. Later, Jim.

chaz 03-25-2005 10:33 AM

Re: Connecticut get together?

I can't fit under the bridge at Bill's Can i still be in the running for the Beer? CHAZ

Bryan A. 03-26-2005 12:04 PM

Re: Connecticut get together?

Anyone who ties up a classic to my dock is welcome to a beer anytime. The prize is a set of these babies hand crafted by yours truly. A full set consists of a 4,5, and 6 Oz. jig. These will give you the edge when hunting for that doormat

Chaz - get the sawzall out! Just kidding if you can get to Westbrook we can tie you up somewhere south of the bridge.

Check these out.

Re: Connecticut get together/ Flukin in June

Brian is it worth checking with Pilots Point for spots to tie up for a day? Is that the river We'll be running up?

Bryan A. 03-29-2005 03:18 PM

Re: Connecticut get together/ Flukin in June

I would not bother with paying for a slip. If you cannot make it under the siging bridge we can always anchor the boat up in Duck Island, which is very protected. I don't forsee us spending much time at my house anyway, I would hope we will be fishing. I think we will use my dock more of like a meeting place or if someone wants to put their boat in the night before and leave it tied up at my house for the weekend.

Re: Connecticut get together?

Two weeks to go, how is it looking? I haven't launched the boat yet but prob will this week. Any bites around Westbrook? Jim

Bryan A. 05-24-2005 09:45 AM

Re: Connecticut get together?

I have not gotten mine in the water either. I do not know if I will be ready, I started a few projects because of the low water temps and the slow bite.
I figure we can push it off a few weeks, I would be good for June 25 or 26, or we can just go for it. It would be nice if a few more guys would chime in for a head count.

Jim - If my boat is not ready for the fourth of June could I grab a spot on your boat?

Billybob 05-24-2005 10:32 AM

Re: Connecticut get together?

Well, I have been following this and I would definately be in - if I was in, but it's gonna be a while for me. Some of you may have seen my thread on my bottom problems.I think it's been the coldest May in like 60 years or something.
If I get her goin, I'll make it.
Bill

Re: Connecticut get together?

I now think we should postpone, due mostly to the uncertainty of the weather and the definite drop in water temps. I can fish on Sat June 25th but I'm working on the 26th. Just think we should wait a while until spring returns and we can enjoy it. Still your call, of course I would give you a seat on my boat. Although there is a great bass bite on in the western sound, it's all fresh chunking, some big fish. I saw a report from Westbrook and they had some cows. Do you follow CTfisherman.com? Excellent reports and discussions. I'm supposed to hit Shinnecock on my friends boat for fluke this week. He had a 12 and 9 lb doormat. Now big weakfish too, he's fired up, and I have to listen to it. Later, Jim.

Bryan A. 05-25-2005 03:09 PM

Re: Connecticut get together?

I agree lets try for the 25th of June, we can always push it back again if the glacier doesn't retreat by then. I think it will give us all more time to get the boats ready and looking pretty. Hopefully Billybob will get his bottom fixed and join us. And yes I do follow CT Fisherman, that is how I found ClassicSeacraft.com.

All systems go. Sat June 25. Interested parties please reply.

Re: Connecticut get together?

Hey Brian, I hope to be there Sat. I may have to work Fri night and definitely Sunday day but I really want to go. I ran that missing diver case off Mystic yesterday and pushed a 14 hr watch, back on tonight... ugh. Had some problems with the trim/tilt package on the old Yammi, I have not been fishing much. Went down to Shinnecock over the weekend, a few short bass, short fluke. Anyway, I'm just going to hustle through this week and hope for the best. Let me know the address of the ramp I can use, thanks. Jim

Re: Connecticut get together?

Good Luck with the search, I feel for the family(ies) involved. I hope they find her.

I have been having problems with my VRO on my whitewater hope to have it sorted out by Sat, if not I may have to bum that ride on your boat. You can use Peir 76 boat ramp which is next to Bills Seafood near the Singing Bride in Westbrook on Route 1. Would you be launching Fri or Sat. If you need a hand let me know. My Cell phone number is 860-638-7420. Any other interest CSC guys can call in regards to Sat or during fishing on Sat if you want to meet out on the water.

Regards to fluking. I went out once managed a bluefish and one skate. I think the secret this time of year is to use smaller baits. Flies and devceiver like things off the Bucktails. Feel free to call.

Re: Connecticut get together?

Hey Brian, any other replies? It's not looking good for me now. I have the night shift Friday and day shift on Sun, not the normal rotation but we had some personnel issues last week. I will try your cell phone. My boat is running and looking good too,(just jinxed myself). If you pick a working frequency on VHF, let me know that too. Jim.

Bryan A. 06-24-2005 10:28 AM

Re: Connecticut get together?

No other replies, I guess we can try for another weekend. Keep in touch and we can get together and just go fishing, your boat or mine.
