What's she worth?
A sad time, but I'm going to sell "my girl"... a 1975 20'CC powered with a strong running 1989 Yamaha 175. I did a bunch of cosmetic work to her last year (interior carpet, refinishing the teak, re-doing the rub rail, new molding on the interior side of the "cap)... and she looks a lot better than when I bought her. I realize the engine really has little value in the mind of the buyer, but I know it's strong. So... the question is: What's a fair price? I'm thinking in the 8K range... is that low/high?
Thanks folks... I appreciate your input. |
Re: What's she worth?
Honey Hole,
Is it a Fisherman or a Master Angler (you mention "....interior carpet,...new molding on the interior side of the cap...")? Do you have pictures that you can post, and what is the hull ID number? |
Re: What's she worth?
The Hull number is SECF00611275; and to tell the truth, I'm not sure if it's a Master Angler or Fisherman. This is the only pic I have right now, but will take/post more if needed. Miles Offshore has seen the boat, and may be able to add some input.

Re: What's she worth?
well... the pic posting didn't work... any tips?
EDIT: okay, just added a "space"... the link should work. |
Re: What's she worth?
That's an MA you have.
|
Re: What's she worth?
I sold my 78 MA for 9500.00 without a motor,
electronics or trailer. I would start at 9900, your timing is perfect. |
Re: What's she worth?
She looks like a nice boat. I think $9,500 would be a "home run". IMHO, I feel a "fair" value would be more like $7,500. But - the more the better...

That hull sure looks like a MA to me, but the hull ID clearly says it is a Fisherman. Just curious, but does anyone know what happened here? |
Re: What's she worth?
Capt Chuck is the master of the SeaCraft Bible Code. I'm sure he'll have an answer.-PF

Re: What's she worth?
SECF vs SECM. But I would not sweat that detail. It just means that someone at the factory screwed up the serial code, or it was called an SF in 1978. Clearly it's an MA as we've come to know them.

Re: What's she worth?
How would you know that from the HIN?
Wait.. Boat Master Otto can't read the HIN...??? What is this world coming too. First off 8k to 9K is a fair price for that boat. Some of you guys have been huffing too many fumes. It's not a project boat, its ready to ride. It's got a strong motor (it may be old but it runs good) and it looks clean. Someone can buy that boat for 9k put it in the water and run it till the motor blows. Redo the transom, hang a new motor and go. Otto you've spent too much time on the beach looking at yours and adding up how much you have in it to see the value in HH's 20. Yeah if your going to buy it and then ship it off to someone to work on it, yeah its way to much green, But the boat doesn't need to be redone. It's ready to use. If you buy that boat for 9k and use it for three years and then redo what needs to be done, your far more ahead then if you buy it for 3g's and rip it apart and sit on the beach for 4 years playing with Coosa board and glue. I'm a big fan of using my boat so it’s worth the money to buy it for 9g’s and use it every season. I'm sure there are more then a few guys that now wished they would have reworked their boats as they used them rather then ripping them apart. So in closing 8 to 9g's for that boat is a good deal and a fair market price. So you buy a basket case for 3gs and dump 15gs into it what do you really have? 9g’s for the boat use it till the motor blows, redo the transom and maintain the boat over the years, hang a new motor and your at the same place BUT you’ve used it and enjoyed it far more… |
Re: What's she worth?
DB, I agree with you on that. But you should understand that some people might need the bling.

Re: What's she worth?
I think 18g's is a conservative figure for a 20 redo with power. My feeling is if you can get away clean for 9k its a no brainer.

Re: What's she worth?
Well, where is the value point between these two boats that have been on BTOL recently, and how do they relate to the MA in question? If you accept the point that the prices reflect the desire of both sellers to get the max amount for their boats, can either of these 2 ads support the numbers that are being discussed in this thread?
1980 MA. with a 1988, 150 HP Evinrude: http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/1/2/78345412.htm Hull in average condition, engine tests to spec's, 3 soft spots in the deck, original wiring, gauges, fuel tank, etc. and no electronics fish finder, GPS, etc.). In fairness, I should say that I was interested in 1980 MA advertised on BTOL, to the point that I had it surveyed and made an offer which was rejected. 1977 Fisherman with a 1999, 200 HP Yamaha. http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/5/8/77826158.htm 2-3 weeks ago, Dixie Marine said the price on the 77' Fisherman was $9,500, take it or leave it; offres were not being accepted. Different hull configuration, larger and much newer engine, new (5 years ago)tank (urethan coated), wiring and gauges, typical array of small boat electronics (VHF, GPS, etc.). Everything looks to be in very good condition (I have not actually seen this boat). |

Actually, the t-boning was dubbed "bonito rage" when it happened. There's nothing better than getting yourself in the thick of crashing albies/bonito in Vineyard Sound around Derby time. It's good to hear that Roger's boat isn't the infamous "victim" of that incident. |
Re: What's she worth?
Hey Al-how gozit bud???? JMO- I think your in the ballpark- i was thinking around 7500- if your trailer is in good condition- i dont know what electronics you have on her. start high 9K and see what happens- people are itchy now that the boat show is over!!!

Last fall while fishing for FAs at Cape Pogue it was pretty tame. I did see a Black hulled Seacraft. Maybe a 23 inboard or IO. Is that anyone from here? |
Re: What's she worth?
Craig - Things are good and bad... starting a new job, and am going to be giving up the chartering... good and bad.
The trailer needs work. Everything from new fenders, leaf springs and hubs to a few new rollers. The folks at Portsmouth Trailer want 720.00 to fix it; a bud of mine said he'd do it for 300... just not sure if I want to put the money into it right before selling (new owner may want to do something else - dry store/new trailer). Guys - THANKS for your input/help. I've been nothing but pleased with my SeaCraft... to tell the truth, I'm almost scared of getting a different boat. But, Momma wants a head (at least a head in the console), and I've got a little one that needs to get out of the sun. |
