Soon to be new owner...have some questions

First off, great site with a lot of useful info.

I just ordered a brand new 23 a week ago and I should be taking delivery of it in about 6 weeks or so. My questions are:

How many feet of 1/2" anchor line can the storage compartment hold?

What kind of performance numbers will I honestly get with a 225 opti?

How many gallons is the factory freshwater tank?

I didn't get eisenglass for it. Do you think that is something that will be needed for this boat down the line?

Any other suggestions or helpful comments would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Luis

If you don't mind me asking, how much are you paying for it?

Re: Soon to be new owner...have some questions

It was $43k before tax and right around $49ish after.

I got it with boat/motor/trailer. Stainless prop, stainless dive ladder, trim tabs, fresh & saltwater washdown, t-top, leaning post, 3 months of sea tow, $1000 gift card to Bass Pro Shops, and a 10% off card to BPS.

So, 50K for a 23 Seacraft...

What year is it? Is it a brand new one from the Seacraft plant out of North Carolina? Or is it a left over?

On another note: Looks like seacraft finally updated their website: www.seacraft-boats.com

Re: Soon to be new owner...have some questions

It's a 2005.

I was hesitant at first because of all the things that I have heard. I had my father check out all of the wiring, connections, fittings, etc. He does marine elecrtical work as well as other little quality control things on brand new million dollar yachts and government boats. He gave it a thumbs up...not as good as Seavee or contender, but not bad.

I am waiting for the boat to be built and delivered...ordered it at the Miami Boat show.

I saw the website earlier and it's better than it was before.

I'm glad some of our new improvments are starting to show up on the boats in the field. When you get your new boat, I sincerly hope you enjoy it!

Don't expect a warm welcome here brother. Start building something that diserves the name Seacraft. Then come back! Those improvement were obvisiouly missing on the boats at the AC show.

Ron,

Welcome to ClassicSeaCraft.com. We're glad to see you here. As Finster indicated, we have been left with a bad taste in our mouth with some of the things that have been happening over the last several years in terms of quality and OEM responcibility for warantee work and initial build quality.

HOWEVER, we are SeaCraft addicts here and I, for one, am glad to see the staff changes/additions and recent positive efforts to put the word out that a big effort is being made. We are looking forward to seeing the proof in the final product and customer satisfaction.

Thanks for visiting. We look forward to hearing your contributions.

Re: Soon to be new owner...have some questions

Luis,

What I was getting at is that you could have one hell of a professionally restored older 23 SeaCraft for 50K, heck you could have a real nice one for half that. But, the jury is still out on what SeaCraft will start producing now that they have moved, and with their new "mission statement" to improve quality. There have been numerous posts on this site and others that deal with major structural issues on some of the recent boats. Not all, but some. I guess all I can recommend is do your homework. Good luck..

Re: Soon to be new owner...have some questions

It's a shame that that the local dealer dropped
the line because of quality issues. I won't go
into detail, but Johnny Morris ruined a once
great name.

Re: Soon to be new owner...have some questions

Rich,
I couldn't afford to restore an old boat. I needed financing. The 23 offered everything that my wife and I were looking for in that size range. I hope it doesn't come out as a lemon, but we'll see. Like I said earlier, the one at the boat show looked pretty nice...granted it probably has never seen the ocean. As soon as I get the boat, we will check all fittings, connections, thru hulls, etc... I'll keep posts on here about good/bad things that turn out with the boat.

Well, I talked with another member today who said he's been to the new plant and apparently their building one hell of a good boat now....Hopefully he'll chime in on this.
Unfortunatly they've ground the name and reputation in the dirt, and thats going to be a tough up hill battle to bring back.

Re: Soon to be new owner...have some questions

Finster,
I'm glad to hear that.

BPS was really going out of their way with incentives to buy. The gift card and free sea tow. Maybe this is part of trying to turns things around...or just helping them make a sale.

Re: Soon to be new owner...have some questions

Luis, I have a 2003 21' that I bought new less than 2 years ago. This is my 3rd Seacraft the others were a 1969 20' CC and a 1977 23' Sceptre. Obviously I love Seacrafts and was a little concerned about quality, etc. when I decided to buy new . I love my boat and have not had any major issues. The boat seems just as solid as the others. The only problem I have had is the paint on the aluminum frames under the console and the hatch doors in the stern. Seacraft is in the process of taking care of this. I have not heard of any major problems with the 20, 21, or the 23. Good luck with yours and I think you will love it.

I went to the new SeaCraft web site....their contact number for SeaCraft has the same area code and phone number as Tracker Marine in Springfield.......hummmmm seems I knew it would be! LOL

No Capn C, I don't think Tracker has a problem with me speaking with the public.Unfortunatly I have been extremely busy, warm weather here, and lots of personal hotrod stuff to take care of for this season.I am going to review your pictures, and compare them to our current build process. One question, what is/was the actual thickness of your transom?

If you knew what I have went though with them you understand my attitude. Thanks for being civil with me after seeing my statments.

I'm not sure....I'll measure it this weekend....it's still the original transom. I have added knees like the one had that I seen briefly at BPS.....it was a 2004 model.

I have no problem with being civil towards people. I have read through your previous posts about your boat and I just wish it had came to the plant in the first place for the repairs so I could have done them. Overall your repair job looks very good! Nice solid extentions on the rear stringers which will definatly help out with your origional problem. I am going to see if I can get some details of our current build on the transoms for you as well.

Ntrain2k, nothing personal here. I just find it very suspect that you come around trying to be the "Great Provider" when it's been no secret to anyone that Mako Ind. has taken two respected boats (SeaCraft/Mako) and ground them into the dirt, while riding on the coat tails of a name and reputation that was built over fourty years ago.

And this has nothing to do with Capt. C's boat. I've talked to dealers and heard their storys, and seen the boats.
You guys have a tough road up hill no matter how you look at it. Maybe you are building a good boat now, but it has yet to be seen in the field.

And I have a very hard time buying the fact that you represent yourself. First off you didn't come here as a boat owner, second you sign your name with your company title. For all we know you own a Bayliner.

P.S Just a little tip. Next boat show, make sure all the blue tape is off....

Cheers.

Well first off, I have not came here to be a great provider, just to try and answer questions.I am an hourly associate who has no office, and even if I did, I would have no time to use it. I do the warranty repair work here at the plant.I do represent myself, and not Tracker. If you beleive me or not it does not matter to me. I sign my name with my title simply so that people can see that I do work for the company, and that I have nothing to hide. And guess what, I don't own a boat at all anymore, so definatly no bayliner here. My preference is now drag racing.

Welcome to this site. Personally, I look forward to your insights and advice in the arena of boat repair and construction.

It's hard not to take things personally when they are addressed to you, such is the nature of forums like this. However, what you are reading is borne of a collective frustration and is not personal. Hopefully that will change.

Ron, welcome to the site. Bet you kind of fell like you jumped into the fire. I bought my 1989 Seacraft 23WA new in Feb 89 and really like it. I have received many compliments on the boat here in the great Pacific Northwest. I have not had any problems with the boat and don't plan on getting rid of it. My biggest concern at present is what will I repower it with.. I am really looking at the new 225-250 E-Tecs.

Just like to say Hi and welcome to the site Ntrain2k. I know you must have a hard job dealing with warranty problems. I don’t care which company one represents warranty problems can always be a difficult issue to make someone happy after they have been disappointed with something they purchased.
My hope is that as time goes on the quality on the new boats and the old ones are the same or even that the new SeaCrafts are even better build and better boats then the old ones were that most of the guys on this site have taken the time and effort to re build with many of the newer materials that are now on the market which you guys use now a days in the new SeaCrafts. It seams like to me that it has not been a mater of design since the new ones are the same as the older boats and it is not a mater of materials used in the construction which most of the old boats that are being re done are replacing with newer type materials. It seems like to me that it is the craftsmanship and the attention’s towards detail that has effected the newer SeaCrafts the most. Which is probably the most noticeable aspect of your job. I am sure that the company (because of profitability) wish would be to be able to put you out of a job because of the quality is so great no Warranty work is needed to be done.
Personally I think that the P.R. of the company with owners of the Mako and SeaCraft Boats Needs A Lot Of Work. It seems to me that the most popular sold boats on the market are the same boats that the P.R. with the public is the highest. Personally I think that the Company is “missing the boat” by not extending a lot of positive relationship with the Classic Mako and the Classic SeaCraft sites to help promote their boats. I know this has worked great for other companies like Bennet Trim Tab for a example.

Well...I just got off the phone with the Sales Manager who just got off the phone with the factory. He said that my boat is scheduled for completion on April 12 and should be ready for pick up sometime the next week. I am hoping for Saturday the 23rd. The wait has been soooooooooo long...I was told 4-6 weeks...if it does come in when they say, it will make 8 weeks. I'm starting to get excited now and can't wait. I will keep everyone posted and will post pics of the boat, wiring, etc...
