Help me pick an Awlgrip color!

I am having my 1978 23' resprayed professionally with Awlgrip. The current job was done 6 years ago with Awlgrip 2000 in the Sunfast Red color. I am wondering what color to go with next. Part of me says stay with Red but part of me says go with one of the original SeaCraft colors from the 70's. I seem to remember Red, Federal Yellow and a baby blue.

If you know of more colors available in the 70's please let me know. I am leaning towards the baby blue which Awlgrip calls Sky Blue. If anyone has sprayed their SeaCraft and has an opinion, please chime in! Thanks, Brian
PS If I get the topside sprayed, I may go with oyster white.

I am just about to spray my 20cc and my 23cc in aquamist Awlgrip. That color is awesome! Great photos Strick.

Re: Help me pick an Awlgrip color!

The aquamist kinda looks like an off white on bright sunny days but early morning and evening is when the color really shows. I'm happy with it. Fighting Lady Yellow would have been my next choice like PF Flyer's. Good luck.

Re: Help me pick an Awlgrip color!

thought baout the fighting lady yellow, but I was looking to make the boat stand out from the crowd of regulators up here on LI. I also thought about dark blue... like the flag blue or the next on lighter on the chart. I am buying my materials this week to spray next weekend. I guess it is decision time!

Re: Help me pick an Awlgrip color!

I changed my mind at the last moment! I went with fighting lady yellow for my 20' and flag blue for my 23'. I just hope the dark color of the blue doesn't make the boat look too small. I'll post pics when I'm done spraying. I just talked to jason about posting my two restorations on the site. I just have to get him the cd of my work.

HeHe If you really want the boat to stand out above the Regulator's. This color was taken from George's 20.
Vivid Red.

Hi Strick!
I put aquamist inside and sea foam outside. I didn't want the white glare in the Fla. sun. The sea foam is not a widely used color here so it does stand out.
Are you using your boat now?
We just went out for the Air and Sea show in 6-8 (8-10) and the ride was great!

Re: Help me pick an Awlgrip color!

I have decided to go with Sky Blue Awlgrip. The last time the boat was painted we used Awlcraft 2000 in Sunfast Red. I did not like the performance of Awlcraft and would not recommend it. The shine was good, however it was not as hard of a paint as standard Awlgrip. I will post pix when done.

Hi Bill

I've been using the boat a little. Had her out about 5 times. She's not completly finished yet so I'm waiting to post some pics of it then...so for now I'm just enjoying it a little. Your boat looks great BTW.

Re: Help me pick an Awlgrip color!

BTT- haha- welllll- im pulling my ride because of a small oil leak for which I cannot easily rectify. Sooo i am now thinking of doing a substantial overhaul since I have to pull the motor (remove t-top,console etc.etc.etc. My gel-coat is worn pretty good in a few spots on the cap and deck so I am thing about rolling and tipping some type of off white.( My first thought is to leave everything white- actually would maybe like a pearl white (like used to come on older corvettes?)Then maybe since I am already doing some of it , go ahead and doing the hull as well.I really like the hull color aquamist that strick used-but im not rushing myself into any quick decisions. Anyone have a color chart i could buy/borrow?? I tried to order one from the website for 2.50 but it wouldnt let me add it to my cart for whatever reason. I did see one for 12.50 and another for 45$????? on e-bay,lol but that seemed a tad excessive??? Another question I have is how many gallons will it take for the hull alone and then for the cap, deck and inner liner. Now heres the tough question so dont laugh- I dont have anywhere "indoors " where I can roll this thing. If I do it outside on a clear , low humidity day outside can I expect a good result???? Or am I just nutz to even be considering doing this???? Thanx- whith the price of fuel right now I think I can fish on my friends boats this season while I redo my boat in the privacy of my own yard, lol. lots of questions i know-what yall think??? Craig

Re: Help me pick an Awlgrip color!

For me it was a toss up between fighting lady yellow and the aquamist. My next boat will be fighting lady yellow. If you do it at home then put up one of those cheap pvc 3 sided enclosures for the painting. That will help keep stuff from blowing on to your wet paint. Not sure how much paint you will burn rolling and tipping. I think I went thru about 1.5 to 2 quarts for the outside of my boat. Keep in mind that awlgrip is mixed differently depending if you spray or roll. I tried rolling and tipping a small area on my hard top and was unhappy with the results so I decided to spray instead.

My 20CC is all white, but there is a 23CC in my home harbor that is dark (royal?) blue, with a thin white stripe and a green bottom. It's really sharp.

Ha Briguy

I really like their Aqua Mist, Sky Blue and their Sea Foam. Remember lighter is always better in the long run.

Warthog - I really like that red hull / white bottom !!!

now, if I can only get the blue bottom paint off of mine, already having the red hull, that's where I'd want to go.

thanks for the pix!

Bill
