New to site, questions about Seafari

Hi, I am new to the site and have some questions about the Seafari. First off I have owned several Whalers and a Grady White. This past Christmas our family spent a week in the Keys. We went out on a Sea Craft 20 and that is all it took for me. I am Looking at buying a center console or the Seafari. I noticed a 1978 seafari in the trader. The windsheild looks like the one off the 25' seafari. Was this a change in design or is this a 25' boat. Have not recieved Hull ID from the seller to tell. Would also like to hear from anyone that has had experience with a 23 Savage. Thanks for your help, This is a fantastic site

Underdog,
Welcome aboard. I can't tell you much about the windshield, but I wouldn't be suprised if it was the same as the 20.
As far as the savage goes. Their a farely rare boat and are basiclly a Sceptre/Tsunami without the windshield. With an added center console and a goofy bowrail.

I don't know where your from, but a guy here called Mike_D has a real nice 20 Seafari for sale in Mass.

Hi underdog, you may also want to check out the yellow Seafari on the FOR SALE forum, she's sweet!

As for the windshield, the 20's w/s opens up completely but the 25's opens up only on the bottom panels, that's the way to tell the difference from both w/s.

If I may put in my 2 cents worth, if you're looking for a pure fishing boat, the CC is the way to go, but if you're looking for an all around boat, no CC beats the Seafari, she cruises great (mine made the Florida-Bahamas trip yearly), sleeps 2 and even has a toilet! I use a Magma SS grill on our overnights and cook what we catch. Since she can also carry some 20 gals of fresh water you can even take a shower in the cockpit. Overall she's the most capable of the models.

Thanks for your help. Will travel for the right boat. I appreciate your counsel and information. Leaning toward the Seafari due to the family nature of our boating. will follow up on the Seafari suggestions listed on the site. Have been in touch with Mike D. And seaking other opportunities. Thanks again

nestor - where do you hide 20 gallons of fresh water in that thing? we had a 13 gl. tank in the cabin up front but now its in the garage, just curious...

ben,

On mine, under the flip up passenger seat there is a sink with storage under it.

Underdog,

Welcome to the site. The Seafari is a very cool boat. You get the SeaCraft ride, plus good amenities. Best of luck with your search.

Otto,
Is that step down in front of the cabin door typical of the Seafari? It looks like a great place for additional storage or a bigger fuel tank. I like how they integrated the sink into the seat module.

Re: New to site, questions about Seafari

Wow, nice original setup! Wish I still had the original seat like that. On mine the previous owner used to have a flexible plastic or rubber bladder where the tank used to be and he told me it held approximately 20 gals. I don't have it but plan to install one with a pump and cockpit faucet one day.

Re: New to site, questions about Seafari

Scott,

I assume that the step down is the original design, as my 71 only has 153 hours and is all original. I think that you really need that step down to stand in so you can stand up at the helm and still look through the windshield. It allows you to keep the bimini lower and provides a good transition into the cabin. There are storage compartments under the bunks. The head goes between the bunks. I plan to convert the I/O to a bracket so additional storage can be configured where the motor is now. I would consider using the step down area to stow portable fuel cells for longer trips offshore. The I/O has only 38 gallons (a factory OB has 47). I assume that the larger tank would extend into the engine compartment.

The fiberglass/gelcote sink is open underneath. The faucet is a pump. I assume there was a bladder that would live in that space. My guess is you could fit 10 or 15 gallons under there. As we boat in fresh water, you could shower using the wash down pump. Cool, huh?

Gotcha. I didn't realize the step down was in the helm area as well.

Re: New to site, questions about Seafari

yea the step is original and i agree that it would be better used as storage space, so i did just that... here is a pic of it http://www.theboatzone.com/gallery/album25/DSCF0363

this cabin door i have is a 2 piece so i switched the hindges around so they swing out and now they will fit flush up against that storage. when its painted it will look like it was made at the factory!!

it can be done the way i did it, or the easy way. the easy way would be to cut 2 pieces of starboard and use one as the divider and the other as the top. just screw in mounting points in each corner and some peice for the top to rest on and youll be good to go.

the way i did it youll see that the hatch itself is parallel, but does not line up with the cabin sides so it looks real trick.

also if your wondering the other false bulkhead in the pic with the 3 cut outs is where the batterys will go, the middle cutout is for the switch and the sides are for ventilation

(i just wrote more in this than i have in english class all year..)

Ben
