Looking for SBFT ....
 

I took Ed Mancini(Mako Ed) out aboard the OUZO in search of SBFT. Head to NW corner of Stellwagen, nada, head north to Tillies, nada.
Ground fish for cod at Tillies, and tuna start jumping! Race is started!! Several casts and Ed states he is on!!!!

Ed started the job, and I finished it with some nice gaff work!

Congrats Ed on the 1st SBFT, and wish him well on his recovery … the fish fell for a Yozuri Hydrotiger Mackerel popper.

I must say that OUZO is one fine, little boat that handled 3's and 4's no problem. And my good friend, Mr. Ouzo, is a helluva gaff man.

However, I think Diana should take Mr. Ouzo to the optimologist......because if I did not see those birds off in the distance we still might be cod fishing [img]/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]

Scott, it was the feeling of a lifetime. When we got the fish in the boat...my legs were visibly shaking. I was amped up for hours...but did feel bad about taking the life of such a beautiful animal.If I ever have the opportunity to catch one again...I think I would release it at the boat.

Oh yeah.....there is about a 1% chance that I could have landed this fish by myself. I wanted to publicly thank Nick for helping out...mucho appreciado.

Nice going guys! That reminds me to apply for an HMS permit. I’m taking a week off 9-4 to 9-11. Just applied yesterday for a slip at sesuit harbor.

Ed, that must have made up for the time you got socked in by the fog on your way home. Tell us about the story. What were you using for tackle? How long did it take to land? How was the weather?

I’m very jealous.

Jim, I was using a "Star"heavy duty spinning rod, Okuma Axeon reel, 50lb Power Pro, Spro-swivel and 50lb fluoro leader. The lure was a Yozuri hydrotiger....I took off the stock trebels and split rings and replaced them with 6/0 stainless steel tuna hooks and hd rings.

Nick pretty much described the scene earlier. We went out looking for them, but after about 8 hours decided we jig up some cod/haddock for dinner, right about that time...the tide changed, the water calmed a bit, mother nature rang the dinner bell and the bite was on!

Ed & Nick - Congrats - themz nice fish! Wish we had those down here - awesome job!

Where I was fishing Thursday (very close to where we will be next weekend for the Newport CS shindig - 3 -5 miles away) we had much smaller SBFT, mostly barely legal tuna, but there were reportedly some 60 & 80#ers in the area that we did not get into. Here is a 20#er I got on a Cordell pencil popper and some teen size on a wood squid bass lure and a "Booger" Big Bart - the topwater action was a ball but I wish we had the ones like you had [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

That is Santini's shop ... i called him that i had a weigh in SBFT, he made the assumption that i landed it and passed it on to the Fisherman.
