My first
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...1234/p4008.jpg My first SC getting ready for her winter mooring in Chatham. I just went and picked her up yesterday the 10th. Teak needs oil, t-top needs more support, rewiring, new electronics, and possibly new fuel tank and new hatches. More pictures will follow.

Re: My first
Congrats on your new boat. Is that the one that was in the Bass River?
|
Re: My first
Chance, Welcome to the SeaCraft family.
Your real fun is about to begin!! Good Luck, Ken |
Re: My first
Thanks guys, yeah she was in Bass River, can't wait to get to work.
|
Re: My first
Did that boat make the Trip to Nantucket this year? I think I may have seen it out there in the Commercial Days?
|
Re: My first
Yeah she was out there this summer, not by me but the previous owner had her out there a few times.
|
Re: My first
Hey guys, how do you think she would look with a couple of those classic potter built stickers? Not sure how the red would contrast with the blue hull. Holy $@#! I sound like a female trying to coordinate an outfit.
|
Re: My first
Congratulations on the new boat and hope to see you on the water next season out off of Nantucket or Crab Ledge, or wherever.
|
Re: My first
Here comes the fun: I will be taking a week of leave and begining my custom doghouse this week. along with that I am having some new hatches made for up foward. when i take the current t-top off I will proably make a new aft hatch that covers the fuel tanks. along with that a new bilge pump, and some electronics. pictures will follow of before, during and after. hopefully in about a week. I guess my main time consuming project will be removing the t-top and wiring and electronics. Looks like a good week as far as weather goes. can't wait to share with you guys.

Re: My first
Here are some pics of the construction of the doghouse. 1/2" marine grade plywood. framed up in a day, with help from the old man. Hopefully will be glassed soon.

Re: My first
The woodwork looks really good! Be sure to radius the outside edges, and fillet the inside ones before the fiberglass.
What are your layout plans, and how are you going to finish it? Jim |
Re: My first
I used half inch quarter round on all the outside edges and than sanded them all flush. This boat will be primaraly a work boat so the inside of the console will not be anything great. The outside will be gelcoat unless there are any better options. When i removed the old t-top and center console i had it weighed, and it came in a just over 400 lbs, which seemed like a lot to me for a console and alluminum t-top. the doghouse weighs half of that now with no glass, so i figure i will have less weight overall. Any suggestions as how to make the exterior look cherry? Fiberglass will be started next weekend. Thanks for any ideas.
|
Re: My first
Well, if you already have the edges round, and you’re going to gel coat, then you probably know the drill. No suggestions here on how to make it look cherry. Your surfaces are flat so the sanding shouldn’t be too bad.
That picture at the top of this post is sweet. The inboard CC is one great looking boat! Is that deck and fuel tank layout original? How is the exhaust routed? Between two tanks? |
Re: My first
Thanks, Yes deck and fuel tanks layout are both original layout. The exhaust does run between the fuel tanks. The fuel tanks and exhaust are very accessible as the aft deck is one removable piece. Next year, I plan on re-doing that section. Not that anything is wrong with it now, I just want to beef it up, and put a new leaning post in her.

Re: My first
Lookin good chance!!!!! that layout does look familiar, lolol

Re: My first
Any ideas about a ball park figure of how much to re-wire the whole boat, stem to stern. From the bilge pumps, to gas tanks, to electronics, to nav lights, the whole thing? Thanks.
|
Re: My first
started fiberglass on the doghouse. comming along nicely. It will be finished next weekend, and maybe even gelcoated but I doubt it. Any one have any idea who makes good custom windows. Hopefully soon, gauges and electronics will be going in. Pictures will follow once gel coat is completed. I hate being away from my boat. I saw an appropriate bumper sticker for all of us CSC members: "life is to short to have an ugly boat" Good philosphy.

Re: My first
I used this company. http://www.wynneinc.com/
Don't bother looking any where else. I've done the reserch. They are the only marine window company that post's any price's on the web. They build a fine product. Their window's have a trim ring that is installed on the inside. The screw's go thru the trim ring and into the outside frame. No fastner's screw into the boat. I highly recommend that you make the template's that you send them with the 3in radius in the corner's. It look's MUCH better and is stronger than square corner's. Before you do the final install. Coat the stainless screw's with Teff Gell. http://wolfwire.com/tefgel/Tef-Gel.htm This will keep the discimler metal's from reacting to one another. Mine are the Black frames with Laminated Safety glass and Solar Gray tint. I also recommend that you make the front window hinge open. http://www.classicmako.com/projects/...s/windows3.jpg http://www.classicmako.com/projects/...s/windows6.jpg http://www.classicmako.com/bobby/Finish%20Work3.JPG |
Re: My first
fiber glass is finished on my new doghouse, next weekend will be used to gelcoat. Things are coming along nicely, the next step will be to cut out windows. Not a bad job if i do say so myself for a first time fiberglasser. I would have taken pictures but it does not look any different with the glass on it besides color. Pictures will follow when gel coat is complete. Also looking for a good chartplotter/fishfinder, what would you guys suggest. I have read some electronics post on the site, but still unsure which direction I should go. The boat will be used primarally for striper and tuna fishing in the northeast if that helpls or makes a difference in electronics, I don't know. Thanks

Re: My first
What weight glass did you cover it with?

Re: My first
Does any one for see a problem with a good boat mechanic and good boat wirer to route all wires and hydrolic steering line and throttle connections inside my doghouse so that i will be able to tilt her fwd to access the engine with out having to disconect anything. My main concern would be the hydrolic lines and throttle cables. Is it possible for the lines and cables to run inside and fwd so there is minable slack but still alows the doghouse to tilt fwd. I don't know exactlly how to describe it but hopefully you guys know what i'm talking about.
|
Re: My first
Sure that whould work. No problems that I can see. No problem w / Hydrolics-No problem w/ wires_ No problem w/ Shift cable if You uae the ?? Can't remeber the name & I have them on mine ? You can pretty near tie in a knot & there super smooth

Re: My first
hey chance- im gonna have to disagree with my bud capn brad a little bit on this one- i think its going to be very tough to get those throttle and tranny cables to route like that and still be able to raise your pilothouse forward without putting tremondous strain on both the fittings and the cable/tubing. -same with the hydraulic tubing. both of mine are routed thru the back of the motor down to the bilge and that tranny and throttle were not easy to align at all. Anything is possible but i dont think that is going to be easy. as for the rest of the wiring- no problem. good luck with it- i rewired my whole rig a couple of years ago and it was a piece of cake until i redid the throttle and hydraulic steering. craig

Re: My first
C'mon now ! I still see it work'n ! There's too many cranes , forklifts, other Heavy equipment,Custom apps. If you were to use Platinum shift cables (I remembered) These can almost be in a 90* angle and still shift smooth as silk as in mine. Just secure the cables ,hyd. lines to the console * LOOP * them, secure to the deck entrance. This would allow the movement.Wrap with chafing net etc. Gotta work ! ? Theres some pretty flexiable hyd. lines out there, may have to get them made up. Stock should work. as for as the wiring same run. the trick is the LOOP ! Oh yea Gotta see those POWER RAMS to raise it up & Down ! Man0Man !

Re: My first
How about this: If it does turn out to be a problem (i hope not though) It should not be a huge problem to take off the throttl linkage, and hydrolic lines when I want to get at the engine right? Would I have to bleed the hydrolic lines everytime before I re-attached. I probably will be having Metan Marine in Rockland MA do most of the work. I have seen some of the work they have done on Seacrafts and it looks very nice. Check out the website:
www.metanmarine.com Thanks for the replys guys. Still looking for a good chartplotter/fishfinder combo. |
Re: My first
LOL- Hey Tug- i didnt say it couldnt be done- but i still think its going to be a bitch!!!!! Some good hydraulic hose and swivel fittings should get er done. The throttle and shift cables are very tough to get right for whatever reason and i think chance might have to run them normal and disconnect them when he needs to raise the hood.lol- ketchin any fish down there???

Re: My first
thats what i figured. I will make it work where atleast the electrical and hydrolic will stay attached. Theres gotta be a way.

Re: My first
Yep I agree , That would get old Really quick. You'd eventually get leaks . check out the platinum cables from mercury >Not sure what You have but I'm sure theres more out like them. Some 18' ones on e-bay right now. CHEAP so far. Fish ? Whats Dat? Work & Storms, The weather is getting right now.

Re: My first
Quick disconnect hydraulic fittings are available - I have used them on brake systems on race cars - to facilitate removal and replacement of rear axle housings. We did not have to bleed the brakes. Sources would be Aeroquip or Wilwood.
|
Re: My first
all great ideas and thoughts, thanks for that. I am still going to try to have everything stay connected. If that doesen't I will have to get creative i guess. thanks guys.
Hey, another question for ya: If I get a plotter/fishfinder unit can I use my current thru hull transducer or do I have to install another one? |

Re: My first
What's the big deal about making the whole thing tilt forward? That is how one of our Seacrafts is set up and there is absolutely no issue with any of the cables or hoses. We are going to make ours powered up and down too. If you already have Bennett Tabs then you can use the Bennett rams. These are special rams for doing stuff like this. You have a lot of weight there so I'm not sure how much lifting power you will need. There are bunch of comapnies that make worm gear style rams too.

Re: My first
Here are some more pictures of the gelcoat and the completed project, minus windows, on the boat:
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...1234/p4025.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...1234/p4024.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...1234/p4023.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...1234/p4022.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...1234/p4026.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...1234/p4021.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...1234/p4019.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...1234/p4018.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...1234/p4017.jpg The gelcoat will not be polished. Total time to completion was 1 day to frame, 3 days to glass, and 1 day to gelcoat (2 coats). Not bad for a rookie if I say so. What do you guys think. |
Re: My first
Great work. If I lived up your way I'd probably do the same only narrower for my 20MA. It's got the large console that I will probably make more narrow so I can install a T-top. I had thought about mounting one similar to your original but guessed it wouldn't be as solid as I would like. About how much of the 400# do you guess the console was?
|
Re: My first
probably about 300 lbs for just the console, she was a heavy b@st@rd.
|
Re: My first
coming along really nice dude- keep posting the pics
|
Re: My first
Hey Chance1234 noticed that with the new dog house that you are not using the front console door. Just wondering ifso would you consider selling it, my 78 23cc didnot come with the nice built in seat, and the wife and kids would love the extra seating.
