Wicked Tease !!!
Peter - very nice looking !!! Mind if I hit you with a boat load of questions ?
Looks like you eliminated the floor scuppers ? Where'd they go ? Replacements? Routing ? Did that boat (20 cc ?) have the same splashwell configuration as the Seafari, and that you cut it out, and leveled the floor all the way to the transom ? Details and Pix, Man ! ? ! ? !!!! thanks Bill |
Re: Wicked Tease !!!
That looks awesome Peter. Good work.

Re: Nearing the end! Concept and Reality!
Thank you for the kind words and sorry for the delay in posting more.
Here is where I started: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/alarie/juryrig2.jpg Many buds later, here is the bare hull, ready for hardware and rigging. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/.../barehull2.jpg The bow area with hardware, awaiting a starboard hatch for the front compartment: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/.../bowfinal2.jpg Here is a detail of the non-skid layout. I went for a Matterhorn white with Whisper Gray non-skid. If you are going to go for the 2 tone, I think it is worth it to layout and border all of your hardware-it really looks nice when you are done: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/...bowdetail2.jpg Here is a shot of the aft part of the boat with the motor rigged: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/.../aftfinal2.jpg The new floor is 2 1/4" higher than the old. I glassed over the old thru hull drains and put the scuppers in the aft part of the transom. The floor is pitched aft and towards the middle, and then the small aft section is tilted down about 3/4" to keep the water back there that does come in. It started out with the standard splash well, which I cut out. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/...plashwell2.jpg Here is the console, which I made from the old one. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/.../console12.jpg I cut the orginal console down by 8" and then added the upper portion. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/.../console22.jpg I glassed on a flange so that I could mount it from the inside, leaving the outside clean. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/.../console32.jpg I put 1/4-20 threaded inserts into the floor so hold it down. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/alarie/console2.jpg I need to get some shots in better light, and hope to put up a whole page of the process at some point soon. As I said, I have many pictures that I will share, showing the entire process. Thanks, Peter |

Re: Nearing the end! Concept and Reality!
Peter, Looks great!!
I raised the deck 2 inches as well. It does make a big difference. Good Luck, Ken PS: More pictures with tools and stuff laying all over the place. That would make most of us feel at home. |
Re: Nearing the end! Concept and Reality!
After a lot of hustle last week, put the boat in the water on Friday AM and headed out to Block Island. I cannot express how great it was to run the boat, feel how solid it was, and just enjoy the ride and experience of having a "new" boat. This is my 2nd SF20, so I was ready for how it should go, but I was totally blown away with the changes that I made. The boat was so solid, smooth, the Yamaha 130 is the perfect engine for this hull. It was really great! The trip out there was about 10 knots from the NW, so a bit of chop and swell, but the boat handled it like a dream, so much better than all the other boats I have been riding in for the last 2 years while I finished this one! There is nothing like putting it on the pins, hanging on, and just feeling how awesome these boats handle in rough conditions: totally predictable, smooth, and good natured.
Some shots of the (almost) final result. Still waiting on some Starboard pieces, and I need to mount some rod holders. Here is the boat parked at the Boat Basin. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/alarie/BI1.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/alarie/BI2.jpg The first fish caught on the boat, a BI schoolie off of the SW ledge. Unfortunately reeled in by my friend Capt Greg Snow, but nice to get some blood on the boat! http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/alarie/BI3.jpg Stayed until Sunday, great fishing and fun. To cap off a perfect weekend, on the way home we came across a school of Atlantic White sided Dolphin just outside of Point Judith. Litterally hundreds of them swimming west on the surface. We pulled up along them, and they could not have been happier for the company. They swam under the bow, jumped, and raced all around the boat for over an hour. They really liked when you cruised along at about 14 knots, they would just stack up under the bow and you could litterally reach down and touch them! Incredible experience. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/alarie/BI4.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y1/alarie/BI5.jpg All in all, could not be more pleased! Peter |

Great job!! (I didn't expect anything less) Good luck!! Paul |
Re: Nearing the end! Concept and Reality!
Sweet Ride. Congratulations on a job well done. "Building" you own boat is so much better than just buying a copy. The copy just doesn't give you the same feeling when you step abord.

Peter -
I gotta tell ya that is one gorgeous boat. !!!
and cruisin with the dolphins is way cool ! Nice striper - so that's a BI "schoolie" ?!?! whew !!! Gotta say you have to have some serious confidence in that boat to scoot across to BI in an open 20 !!! Nice Work !!!! Bill |
Re: Nearing the end! Concept and Reality!
Great Job Peter!
Nicely done!! ... Time to enjoy .... - Nick |
Re: Nearing the end! Concept and Reality!
Nice job! I just replaced the floor on my 20' SC so I know what a chore it can be! I'm in central MA, maybe we can go fishing some time once I get my lower unit all buttoned up. I never liked the size of my console, it's too big for my boat, slimming yours down was a great idea. The gas tank is under mine so that wasn't an easy option.
