Seacraft Ad's

We're in the process of scanning old Seacraft ad's and making them available to you guy's for a small donation to the site.
I'd like to get some input from you guys on how big a file size you want. I've played around with 300dpi JPEG's which makes a dandy 8.5x11 print. The problem with that is, the file size is just over 6 mb's and some servers kick it back.
So give me some input on what you guys want and we'll go from there. Also, if you have any pre '74 ad's let me know, and if you have any Seavette ad's I'll pay.

ScottM, ya happy now? And don't worry it taped back in nicely.
Only kidding. Make sure you thank your dad for the use of the magazines.

Re: Seacraft Ad's

Finster, My ex-wife, if she still has them somewhere
are my Florida Sportsman magazines, that go back when they
were a bi-monthly publication. I think around '74
I will see if they are around. Should be old ads in them.
See ya, Ken

Re: Seacraft Ad's

Ken, thanks to Scotts dad we have '74-'80 covered in the Saltwater Sportsman (not FL). Pipedreams tells me he has a bunch of pre '74 SWSP. I just need to hook up with him. If you have ad's that we don't already have, thats great. But for now I need to figure out the best way to digitally execute this.

No, not yet. I am still in the process compiling them. As of now I have:
'73 20 SF
'73 Tsunami
'76 23 SF IB
'78 23 SF OB
'78 23 SF IO
'84 23 SF IB
And a couple other cool ad's. I am leaving out the BW line art ad's, there not very exciting.

I have a call in to Mr.P and Herman is supposed to get me some stuff. So it sounds like we can compile an nice library of ad's and such.

Finster,

Put me down for a Sailf--- no, no, a Secptre and 20SF
Ken

Re: Seacraft Ad's

Yeah well, I think we've all had enough of this sailfish BS...
As far as the ad's go I am not ready to be sending any thing out yet. I am tying to amass as large a library as possible. Scan, retouch, then catalog these things.

I threw this thread up here to get some feedback into the idea. Not to take orders.

This has great fund raising potential for the site and thats why we're doing this.

Re: Seacraft Ad's

If you have a good photo editing program, sometimes changing from 32 bit color to 16 bit color can reduce the file size in .jpeg graphics. Another way to try to get past some server's 5 megabyte limit is to convert the photo's to 16 bit .eps format. They run about 8-10% smaller than .jpeg, but many people don't have a program that will open them in this format. Adobe Photoshop Professional can open and convert over 200 different graphic file formats.
Another trick is to make the picture 8"x10", or 7.75"x9.5", stuff like that.
Just a couple of ideas. BTW, I want photos of the '72 Seafari

figured you'd snatch that up...i almost just pm'd it to you instead of posting it.

when all these get scanned, it would be cool to have them available on CD

Re: Seacraft Ad's _SEAVETTE

Thats the plan. Put them all on one CD.

Did you bid and/or win the Seavette ad on ebay? I wanted to bid on it but I decided against it. I wanted you to get it so that I could get all of your Seacraft ads, including the Seavette ad.

Re: Seacraft Ad's _SEAVETTE

Chris,
I've been real busy lately, working a lot since the hurricane, in the process of selling the house, and putting the Grand National back together. Did you get the e-mail that I sent you with my bud's phone number? This is the guy who has the tow business around here. The Seavette is fine, however I spun a main bearing in it a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to try to take it to Wildfire Marine here in a couple of months to get all of the soft spots straightened out. I don't know of anyone around here that I would trust. While they are working on the boat, I plan on rebuilding the engine. I'm thinking seriously about stroking and boring it into a 496 .

Finster 11-06-2005 06:23 PM

Re: Seacraft Ad's _SEAVETTE

Hi Steve, your vette plans sound good. I've made some changes to mine. I am now going to close the transom and use that seamark bracket that I have. Then convert the existing motor well into seating with storage underneath. It should seat 5 confortability configured like that. As you know those cockpits are tight on that boat.

Yeah I talked to your friend, but I'm still tied up here for a while.

That CD idea with all photos sounds like the ticket. How is it coming boss?

Re: Seacraft Ad's _SEAVETTE

It's getting there. I have a few more pieces to scan that I recieved from other members.
I'd really like to amass as large of a collection as possible before we release it.

BTW, if any of you guys have any cool SC stuff let me know. I'll be sure to get it back to you.

Dirk

That'd be cool. Scan it at 300dpi and save it as a JPEG, I can do the other stuff in photoshop if needed.
