Rewiring

Any rough idea what a ball park figure would be to completly rewire a 23 cc seacraft. Stem to stern, basic electronics. from bilge pumps to nav lights. Thanks

Re: Rewiring

I'm just throwing this out from what I did.

As you may know I have built a piolethouse with 2 console's. There a 2 batteries in each console.

I spent over $300 just for battery cable and end's. 2/0 cable.

There are all kind's of diffrent system's on my boat. More than most for a 23ft boat. I spent aprox another $1200 on wire and end's. yes I have plenty left over, but I'm sure a job will come rolling in one day for me to use it.

This stuff was NOT bought at a box store. It was bought thru
Best Boat wire.

It would have been 3 to 5 times more thru a box store.

One little neat tool I wiped out in an afternoon really help's

I wire each circuit right out of my head. Then I make a little sketch and go inside to the computer. I use a program called "Smart Draw 7" It's fun to play with.

Here's a couple of samples.

Re: Rewiring

i redid my whole boat year before last- from new dash and new gages and everything in between. I quit counting after about 600$ d think i ended up spending around a grand. i did the wm and bw buying deal. i ended up using a lot more black and red wire though cause buying spools for 6 ft of one color wire got too expensive in a hurry. good luck ! its really kinda fun and you will feel good about it after you finish!! Re: Rewiring

Another advantage to Best boat wire is they have 13 color's in their primary wire. Try to find that at a box store. You will be lucky to find 6 colors.

Does anyone recommend the more expensive "tinned" wire.

Saltwater .... Yes! Below summs it up ;

web page

"The wire must be copper, but even copper corrodes in the marine environment, and corrosion is the primary cause of electrical failures on a boat. Plating each strand of the wire with a thin coat of tin-called tinning--dramatically improves corrosion resistance. The additional cost of tinned wire is nominal, the benefits substantial. Under normal circumstances use only tinned wire."

Re: Rewiring

GOOD! That is what I have been using lately. It only costs a few cents more a foot and I get it for a reasonable price at Marine Surplus here in Sarasota.
