Bow Rail for a Tsunami
My 1973 23' Tsunami has no bow rail. Does any one know of a source or do I need to get it made if I want it? I know on some sites it's the kind of thing that might come up in the classifieds on occasion but, the Tsunami seems rare enough compared to all the CCs here that I don't think it seems likely to pop up here.
Thanks for any leads, Jon |
Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
Jon,
You can have the bow rail of my ‘85 SF for a small donation to my restoration fund. I don’t know how different the Tsunami rail is, but mine is in perfect condition and could probably be modified to fit. |
Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
I believe the CC and Tsunami/Sceptre use the same raised bow rail (the tall one). There is also a short one on the Sceptres (not sure of the Tsunamis).

Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
That'd be great. I see you're in CT too which makes it even better. Do you need to get rid of it soon or can we wait till spring? Either way, I'm interested. How the hell will I get it though? How small can I break it down? Enough to fit in a Cherokee or a minivan? Wow, I'd given up hope on this. (actually to be honest, I prefer the looks without but it's high on my Dad's list of things to add). You just made my day, thanks.

Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
1973 Tsunami, FWIW, I have an original bow rail from my 1979 20 MA. It is complete except for one stansion base, which is probably buried around the base of a wood pile the rail has been resting on. Anyway, fully assembled with all (four?) stansions, it sat perfectly inside a six foot bed of a small Toyota pick up, with about one foot protruding out the center of the tailgate. Easy transport. Hope this helps. Vezo, Part II.

Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
very helpful thanks, No way it'd fit in the cherokee but I'll take the tape to Dad's minivan, seems like a likely fit, otherwise I'll have to recruit a buddy's full size chevy p/u.

Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
The bow rail for my 23 is out behind my barn and will be o.k. until spring if necessary. It is approximately 8’W x 8’L if you need to fit it in a van you could cut it at the joint in the bow. Once you have it installed on your boat you could have a local shop weld it back together for you. Let me know if you are still interested.

Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
I am still interested. I might have to chop it and reweld a bit but if it fits then I have no problem with that. If you're not in a big hurry do you mind if we wait until I get the winter cover off and we can do some measurements to make sure it's the right fit. It's not the recessed bow rail like on the newer models is it? I need some height for something to hold on to while on deck above the cuddy cabin.

Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
I have a '75 Tsunami w/ a bow rail. FYI: My bow rail is (2) pcs - the 'joint' being at the bow, held in place by a stock V-shaped, joint-fitting. Are you sure yours is not in (2) pcs too ? |
Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
Spring is fine, let me know when you want it. It is a high bow rail, see pic.

Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
Looks like it might be a little different than what might have been stock but as long as the dimensions work that's fine with me. Like I said, this something Dad wants I prefer the look without it. My only requirement is that it doesn't flare out past the rub rails. I prefer the one piece welded rail to the joints too.

It does look just like your picture. Is that hatch in your cabin original. What about the two bow cleats? I just have a single center mounted cleat and chocks on each side to run the bow line through.

Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
Egreen,
I showed my Dad the photos here over the long weekend and he definitely still wants to do the bow rail. Where exactly are you? Once I sort out where I'm keeping this thing this summer, I'll circle back with you about getting the bow rail. What would you say to me towing the boat up to you to install the rail in place in order to avoid the welding. Not sure about the idea but thought I'd throw it out there. Also, can you send me an email and let me know what you're looking to get for it? thanks Jon |
Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
I have done a fair share of moving boat parts around and that bow rail should not nesesitate cutting or the hassle of towing your boat to his place.
The aft end of the rail should be able to come together and then tie it (they are pretty flexible). This will make the width of the rail much less than 8 feet. Get (2) 2x4's and screw the rail bases to them. now you just made a roof rack with the rail on it. Put it on the roof and off you go... |
Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
Nice idea but I think you just cost me some free labor giving me a hand to install it.

Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
Jon,
Yes Trayder is correct, I pulled the ends together with rope and reduced the dimensions to 60” wide x 144” long. I would like to give you a hand with the install but I have a laundry list of my own: New fuel tank, bottom job, new deck & interior paint, cushions, motor work, etc. etc. etc. I will send a P/M with a price and my phone number. |
Re: Bow Rail for a Tsunami
I was just joking. Actually it looks like I might have a slip lined up. I'll know in 2-3 weeks. If so, I'm going to be bringing the boat to a pro to have the awlgrip blasted off the bottom and the bottom painted as well as some refrubishing of the cabin in Feb. If it all works out, I'll try and grab the rail ahead of time and just have him install the rail as well. Thanks for the dimensions I'll be able to use them to figure out how to get it home. Thanks again and thanks Trayder for the tip.
