20' Seacraft Straight Inboard?
 

I am in the processing of purchasing this 1972 20' foot straight inboard in Florida and was wondering if anyone knows about the history of the 20' inboard. How many were made etc. I was told by the current owner that the boat is factory original except for the new deck that was recently installed. Any information would be helpful. Thanks

there were never any sf20 inboards made. Also the bow has an unusual break in the longitudinal steps. Cool boat . . . maybe someone else has some information on this boat.

What factory? The rails added to the chines could be an add on but the front strakes are non-existant. Looks good though.

Whoever added the full length spray rail added the
forward lower rail. Just my quess. Close-ups would help.
Never saw a 20 IB. Good luck with her though.

Seacraft inboards also had a tunnel molded into their hulls. There also seems to be a chine in the forward part of the hull that does not look right. Perhaps a splash of some sort. Not a SC in my opinion.

Looks like a cool boat, but I don't think it's original as others have already mentioned. Also, those exhaust ports below the water line would make me a little nervous.

If this boat has a 360 Chrysler, it's been on and off the market for quite a while, maybe 2 years or so.

I'll jump on the band-wagon to say I have never heard of a straight inboard Seacraft 20 footer either. Let us know what you end up doing, I would love to see it if you end up buying it.

Thanks for the feedback, I have not seen it yet in person and will hopefully get to take a good look at it in a couple of weeks and get more information. I had some of the same reservations about the boat but the transom sure does looks identical to a seacraft. Will be interesting to see in person and take out for a test ride. Looks like a great boat to haul up to the Cape for bass fishing. I have owned a 20' outboard and would love to have the transom space and security of an inboard. Will keep you'all posted. Is it me or does that look like a 23?

If you buy it, PLEASE remove the parasitic attachment on the transom...

Looks like 23' in length to me also. The lifting strakes are missing. The sprays rails on the outer chines, extented VHF height and the large registration numbers tells me it was used commercially.
I agree with Scott, the exhuast below the waterline makes no sense but they may be right at it and the boot stripe is raised [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

Look at the gunnels - definitely not like a 20SF, more like a an 18 or 23. It does look more like a 23, but I'm guessing it's prolly' not a Seacraft. Barcone? I look forward to seeing what the real experts say.

This boat is intriguing. It has many similarities to a SC, yet very different.... I just wonder if it could be a early prototype or test model. [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]
It would be easier to tell seeing it in person.

On my old computer I had a site book marked for looking up the history of a vessel's registration ID for free, yeah you guessed it, gone with the wind. Only one I could find tonight was the Florida DMV, $$. Nothin's free any more.
Florida's link would give you the complete history, etc.

The stern does look like a SeaCraft. It might have been a hull that had problems when they pulled it from the mold and never used as a true Sea Craft. Might have been repaired and finished by someone. This could be the reason for the missing lifting strakes.

Looks like I stand corrected on the exhaust location. This is Mark Rattenbury's '75 23 Sceptre IB, and as you can see, the exhaust ports are in a similar location as the boat above.

I just thought this photo was telling on a number of subjects - exhaust thru-hull location, prop. pocket, waterline location on inboard vs outboards/IOs and the conversion from and to inboard power discussions.

As I explained to Scott the transom penetrations for the exhaust as originally installed worried me for a while. I revised the original installation to fittings designed for thru-hull exhaust. What was interesting was seeing the bare plywood encapsulated in the transom, nearly 2" thick.

Gotta agree, just looking at the room around the center console. It has at least if not more room than mine. I have also never seen the access in front of the console using one of those plastic jobs in the picture. And look at the bulkheads - they are a lot different layout (not sure what you call those support things) - I kinda like the dual exhaust though [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]. I see the scuppers are changed also. Other than those few little minor things and no prop pocket it looks like a nice ride. That inboard Sceptre looks sweet!!!!! craig
