Anyone running 115 Suzuki 4 stroke?

Anyone on the board is running a Suzuki 115 on the back of their 20? I've heard that the performance of the 115 is nearly identical to the 140's . . .

Re: Anyone running 115 Suzuki 4 stroke?

Performance should be simular since the block is nearly the same. I believe the 115 has 118.9ci block vs. 124.7ci block on the 140. Also the gear ratio is higher 2.38 vs. 2.59 on the 140 so a boat running the same prop should have a higher speed at the same rpm. My twin 115's top out at 6000 and the 140 would top out at 6200. Sorry I don't have realworld #'s for the 20 but I hope this helps. My simple gues would be 2-3mph difference max. Here is the link to Suzuki http://suzukimarine.com/sr06/df140/f..._and_specs.php

I do not think you will notice a substantial difference.

One thing the 140 has that the 115 does not have is a beefier trim/tilt system. The 140 has a seperate trim and tilt where the 115 has one ram for both.

The DF-140 also has a oil cooler.

I'm interested in this topic as well (see my post on 11/30/05 under Repairs/Mods).

I happened to come across an old post by Finster (dated 11/02/04 under the Performance section) where he said he had a Suzuki 115 on his Aquasport, he was pleased with the performance, and had no doubt that it would perform well on the 20SC when he swaped out the motors.

Finster, if you are out there, did you ever do the swap, and how do you think it worked out?

Re: Anyone running 115 Suzuki 4 stroke?

I am not quite sure what your asking? I did swap-out a VRO110, and the numbers where better allround with the zuki.
You also have to keep in mind the Aquasport is a much heavier boat than a SC20.

I just sea trialed a 20 master Angler with a 2002 115hp Suzuki three weeks ago in a heavy chop .. With four adults on board it performed beautifully . Owner had run the motor for two seasons and loved the performance.
Will be able to give more personnal opinion after I run it down to the Keys and fish it in March.

Re: Anyone running 115 Suzuki 4 stroke?

Finster,

I'm trying to get some idea of performance in a 20 with a Suzuki 115 4S. For example, what's your cruise and WOT speed and RPM's (ideally speed measured with a GPS), that's all. I understand the SeaCraft and Aquasport are different hulls/boats.

RJO208,

Was the ride in Barry Centraccio's MA, and what were it's cruise and WOT speed and RPM's during the test drive?

Finny .... I think dcobbett is referring to you being all amped up about buying a 20 SC some time ago and your plan was to take your engine off the Aquasport…the 115. Remember the boat Brad took a look at??

Unless there is another "new" vessel in the Finster fleet …. the last I knew the Aquasport still lives !!

By the way the aquasport gets pushed along real nice with the 115 ....

Scott,

That's just what I was thinking.

Re: Anyone running 115 Suzuki 4 stroke?

The Aquasport cruises at 25mph@4000 and at WOT 38mph@5900. Which IMO is fine speeds for a 20 footer. Any faster and those sleeper wakes from the 65 Vike's get a little dangerous.

Finster

Thanks. That's the type of info I am looking for.

alsom it appears that 140HP engine is more efficient. also back-up power to fet the boat on plane in twin engine application.

Re: Anyone running 115 Suzuki 4 stroke?

I think "briguy" or "generater" could supply some expertise here but IMO should you lose a motor in twin motor applications, I don't think a 115HP will get a 23' SeaCraft up on plane. Also i'm skepticle that a 140HP would either

BTW: My cousins 24' Silverhawk has twin 150HP/bracket and we were unable to plane off after dropping a motor. I even sat my fat azz on the bow without success

Re: Anyone running 115 Suzuki 4 stroke?

Chuck,

Believe it or not, one of the 115's will get the boat on plane, with or without the bracket. You will need tabs down and one motor out of the water. I got on plane at 14mph and about 4200 rpm's running my standard 23" prop. Drop down to a 19" prop and my guess is the boat would see 21-22mph. The motor was working really hard and I wouldn't want to do this for an extended period of time.
My local Travis SeaCraft dealer had a 23 on their lot with a SINGLE 140!

Re: Anyone running 115 Suzuki 4 stroke?

i believe briguy, i know of another member with twin 115 in Hawaii that can get it on plane with one engine. it does take a while though. thus the 140 will provide the additional reserve if so needed. offcourse it does cost more for the 140.

Re: Anyone running 115 Suzuki 4 stroke?

What may help with this is turning in large circle's to get the boat on plane. Let the boat roll to one side for less wetted suface just to get it up. Just a throught.

Re: Anyone running 115 Suzuki 4 stroke?

Warthog is 100% correct. Hit the throttle lean her over to one side hard and then pop of the wake you just created. It breaks the surface tension and wholla you are up on plane.

I have done this on a trial with the Thunder Pig and one time under necesity with a 38 fountain using one of the 3 225 optimaxes..
