Ocean Master Boats?
I currently own a 25 Whitewater as well as a 20 SF. We are planning to get something larger to replace the Whitewater and have been impressed with the Oceanmaster Express 31. I have a bridge to deal with on the way out and I think the ocean master minus the tower would fit. Does anyone have experience or comments about Oceanmaster? Build quality? Ride, ect. Don't worry I'll never sell my Seacraft.

Re: Ocean Master Boats?
I have ridden in 31ft Oceanmaster Super Console (canyon tuna trips). The boat is an extremely stable fishing platform, but the ride is pretty harsh in big seas.

Re: Ocean Master Boats?
I second that thought...

Re: Ocean Master Boats?
Well built but your Whitewater rides better.
Tight lines. Tarpun |
Re: Ocean Master Boats?
That's interesting to hear. I have never ridden on one or even inspected one up close. All of my observations are on-line or standing on the dock. Thanks for the input, I guess I should find a dealer that will sea trial one for me. Thanks again.

Re: Ocean Master Boats?
FWIW..
I have never personally been on one but the older ones are known around here as "oceansmashers" due to their less than ideal ride. I read somewhere that the new ones have had a hull redesign in order to improve the ride. |
Re: Ocean Master Boats?
Built like tanks, ride is not that great, the finish work is non existant, but tons of storage and the company has been around for 20plus years, maybe 30?
I think you can find much better boats in the same price range. |
Re: Ocean Master Boats?
The pre-2000 or 2001's are wet! The newer one's are supposedly a-lot drier, but I haven't riden in new one, and have only been on the center console model. they are very solid, good offshore boats and will get you home in nasty weather, but the ride isn't as smooth as some of the newer boats in that size range. This boat is also heavy and takes a-lot of horsepower for it to perform. I also suggest taking a sea trial and judging for yourself. Like Trayder said they have been around for 30 years and they were also the original offshore canyon center consoles.

Re: Ocean Master Boats?
in that range you have the SeaVee's
I've been in a 34 (Diesels) and it was real nice Rode great and better finished than a Ocean Master |
Re: Ocean Master Boats?
One of my most vivid memories of the oceanmaster 31 . . . was riding on the forward console seat. My friend launched the boat off a huge wave at 30knts . . . props were breathing and we caught serious air. That boat hit the water so hard, my spine compressed like an accordion . . . saw nothing but stars.
That boat will handle the worst conditions, but you're not gonna last more than a few rounds. That boat will beat the crap out of you in short order. |
Re: Ocean Master Boats?
Thirty Years + of Oceanmasters. The Co-owner of Brown & Hauptner Marine, Frank Brown raced with Carl Mosley in this Miami to Nassau race. Frank Brown's Partner Mark Hauptner designed the Oceanmaster Boats.

Re: Ocean Master Boats?
Hmmm, but I notice that they raced in a Seacraft. Nice clipping.

Re: Ocean Master Boats?
Big.. I do believe that the Hauptner designed boat is not the same Ocean Master we see today. The stringer lay up on the Ocean Master is typical stringer design of most boats, that layup is not only a Sea Craft idea. The first Ocean Master I worked on was an 1988 31 with twin 300 Rudes on it. The smooth bottom with out lifting rails or strakes made it run fast but ride hard. They had a bad habit of "skating" because the boat wouldn't track in cross sea's

Re: Ocean Master Boats?
What about a Whitewater 28?
|
Re: Ocean Master Boats?
All good suggestions, but unfortunatly I am not rich. The boat would have to be used and not a center consol. This is the boat I will be replacing.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y84...islandshot.jpg And I need somthing that would fit two kids and a wife, BUT, it needs to fit under a bridge if I want to keep it at my house. You know, the wife wants a toilet, place to sleep, place to cook yada yada. The Whitewater is fine for me but the cabin is like a cave. I realize having to go under the bridge limits me but I'm sure I can find something. Keep the suggestions coming. Beside I'll always have my 20SF. Thanks again guys. |

Re: Ocean Master Boats?
Blackfin 27 combi and the 25 or 28 carolina classic are two boats I would look at in the used market. Are you only looking outboard?
|
Re: Ocean Master Boats?
Trayder, all I can say about that 25 whitewater CC is WOW!
|
Re: Ocean Master Boats?
If you think that is nice, you should see pics of his Bertram.

Re: Ocean Master Boats?
There seems to be some good buys on the Blackfin 25 Fisherman. It's very simular to a SC Savage, with the foward berth and center console. It's a tank of a boat with a 24 degree deadrise. Though the one's with towers have a tendancy to pitch due to weight with the 8' beam and deep-V.
This is a good forum if you like Blackfin's. I've always thought they were good boats, and they do have a cult following simular to the SC's. http://groups.msn.com/BlackfinBoater...kfinhulls.msnw |

Do you know of any other boats that used this type of stringer system in 1974? Brown and Hauptner's was a seacraft dealership in those days too Bryan - what's the clearance on the bridge? |
Re: Ocean Master Boats?
Trayder - Yes I have seen Other Tom's Whitewater and she is absolutly beautiful.
Big - The Bridge clearance is about 6'6" on a normal High tide and about 10 -12 on a normal low. I would not mind much if the boat didn't fit at the extremes, I would just have to plan my trips a little better. Besides the 20SF will fit all the time. I do need to stay with outboards because the river is tidal and has a low spot that needs to be jumped over at certain tides but generally there is 4 to 16 feet in the river at most times. Thanks again for all the suggestions. |
Re: Ocean Master Boats?
He is a picture of the dock at high tide just so us Northern guys can dream of a better season.

Re: Ocean Master Boats?
Agree with the other guys, your whitewater will ride better than the 31 OM.......but its a tank ! If I ever owned an island in the bahamas, the OceanMaster would be on the short list of "Brutes" that you could hang a pair of 225 4S on, barrier coat the bottom, and leave it there - forever!
thanks for the compliments, I need to send some "finished" bert pics, before it goes away.... |
