Performance

Trader,
I would like to compliment you on this site; I have found it to be very informative, and to make a suggestion.

I would like to suggest that you post an updated performance chart for Seacrafts of different size and motor configuration. With all of the new motor technology out, and the ever-increasing cost fuel it seams to be a constant topic on this board. I think that many board members are investing in new engines and could contribute data from their experiences.

It would be valuable to have an unbiased review of different motor set-ups, brands, and attachments i.e. brackets, twins, inboard, etc. And most importantly how the new technologies perform Vs the old 2-stroke motors on a Seacraft hull.

I would be glad to supply an Excel spread sheet to help manage the data, or help in any way if needed.

Tx egreen-

I will do this and put it under the reference section. Now I need people to post their boat engine combo's with #'s

if you want to start the post compile the data in excel I will be happy to put it online and give you the credit

Re: Performance

Sounds like a good idea to me. Members should also note if their motors are on a bracket and what props they are running and weather they are ss or aluminum.

You want to start a new thread for this and make it a sticky?

Re: Performance

I have twin 1998 SWS 150 Yamaha's on my 23 foot SF. My transom was rebult by the previous owner when he put the current outboards on eight years ago. It is the traditional transom setup (lots of wasted space). 900 pounds is a lot of weight to have in the back of my boat. I need to keep the drain plugs in the back of the deck when I am in the boat.

I probably have around 750 hours on the engines. They top on in the mid 40's at around 5,400 RPM's. When i cruise at 4,000 RPM's I am going around 32 to 33 MPH, and get a whaling 1.5 miles per gallon.

Re: Performance

I have a 78' 23 CC with a pair of mid 80's crossflow omc 150's with 21 pitch props it tops out at 50mph at 5200 rpm and cruises at mid 30's and gets a wopping 1.25 mpg. I am currently rebuilding a omc 225 to replace the 150's and also will be running a 25hp omc for a kicker. Hopefully this will increase my fuel economy without losing to much performance.

Re: Performance

For reference: 2004 23' center console, 250 hp Suzuki 4-stroke.
4000 RPMs = 26 knots, 2.5-2.6 MPG
3800 RPMS = 24 Knots, 2.6 MPG
4200 RPMs = 27 knots, 2.4-2.5 MPG
This is calculated using a Floscan and GPS. MPG is also in knots. All are averages for load and weather conditions, which affect me about 5-10%.

Re: Performance

Guys . . . Try to post as accurate information as possible. Not trying to be an ass here, but some folks are posting top end speeds that are impossible to reach given the combination of RPM's, gear ratio, and prop pitch that they are running.

Many people will look at these numbers and wonder what is wrong with their boat . . . and why they can't achieve speeds that person x is getting with the exact same setup.

40knts(48mph) vs. 40mph is a huge difference in speed.

Here's a nice prop slip calculator that should help . . .
boat speed is a mathematical equasion.

Re: Performance

Hulls My Man! A big diff. too. I would get right at 46 MPH before the re-store & now I'm lucky with a tail wind & swift current to get 39 ! Same everything (hull, motor, prop)except for weight ? New paint on the bottem. Juz' can't figure it out???? Now when I had the "Tweaked" 200 Mariner :eek:well lets juz' say WhooWeee! She be on da' top! Not even a shiner get disturbed!

Big Shrimpin

You had me revisit my log and are correct as my top end was 42 MPH with half tank (65gal) @5300 rpm. Rich

Re: Performance

I get to 41 knots (not MPH) with the 250 Suzuki pushing a 16X21.5 prop.
