Thanks, I can't say enough about the boats you've completed, maybe one day I'll be able to restore a boat as well as you, great job! Baby steps!

Diversion, nice looking boat. It would be great to hear more about the 20's preformance and handling with the bracket on.

Re: 1970 Seacraft w/ bracket and 200 HPDI
If you did all that yourself it is an excellent looking job, are the deck hatches starboard?

Re: 1970 Seacraft w/ bracket and 200 HPDI
Nice Nice work !!! your kidding about that comment about restoring ...right ??
Your boat looks great !! Many will be interested in the ride with the bracket !! |
Re: 1970 Seacraft w/ bracket and 200 HPDI
Thanks but I wish I could take all the credit. The only thing I did was the console and the new motor with jack plate. Plus other small odds and ends. The boat was restored about 3 years ago. To answer your question, yes, the hatches are starboard. As far as performance the motor turns 5400 RPM's with 51 MPH top speed. still need to do final adjustments on jack plate and install trim tabs.

I like it!
I also would want to hear some performance numbers. How about some pictures how she sits in the water |
Re: 1970 Seacraft w/ bracket and 200 HPDI
I'll get some more pics as soon as I have a chance to get her back in the water. I previously had a Johnson 150 gt w/20in shaft and it caught on fire, so sad. ya right! It just gave me an excuse to get a newer bigger motor. Once I installed the new motor I took it out for it's maiden voyage and the motor ran great but the boat acted weird like it was extremely heavy in the rear, more than just adding a bigger motor. Come to find out I was so excited to get it back on the water I forgot to seal the two new holes I had to drill for the jackplate so the flotation bracket was not flotation anymore it was completely filled. After draining and sealing the holes I took it out for the second time and what a relief. The rear sits just a little lower than with the other motor but I wouldn't change it for anything, the added room that I get having a bracket is great plus getting in and out when diving is much easier. I use a 19 pitch prop and I get on plane with no hesitation, I can run at about 48 mph at 5400rpm with 4 people and gear and 51 mph @5400 rpm with two people and no gear. I am still putting final adjustments on the jackplate so I think the speed will change. My only problem now is a little bit of bow hop at certain speeds but it's not bad, I'm just picky. I'll have more pics soon.

Hey stupid! Was that supposed to be funny?

Re: 1970 Seacraft w/ bracket and 200 HPDI
I throught the windshield frame was Mako. Wasn't sure about the console, as they can be cut and added to.

If you're still having problems with porpoising at any speed, I would try those transom wedges between the motor and the Jack Plate. It's a very economical fix and I'd be very suprised if they didn't solve the problem. They'll allow you to plane at lower speeds as well. Here's an example: http://www.bobsmachine.com/Products/transom_wedges.cfm |
