How much different is the ride?
I was wondering if anyone had first hand experience between the ride difference in the 23 sceptre and the 23 cc. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Re: How much different is the ride?
Strick,
IMO there is a difference, but mainly due to helm placement. As you know, the Sceptre's helm is forward and to starboard whereas a CC is centered and further aft. Standing at the wheel of a Sceptre, you're not riding in the hull's sweet spot. With someone else driving, stand in the bow of your CC about a foot aft of the casting platform and you'll see what I'm talking about. |

Thanks guys for your responces. I've been thinking of switching over to a cuddy so the kids will have a place to get out of the weather.

Re: How much different is the ride?
Strick, I have never been in a CC, so I do not have a comparison. I can tell you that having the cabin is worth the 'tiny' difference there 'may' be. I have an i/o on my 23' Tsunami and w/ proper trim, she rides awesome. I notice that I really never have to use the engine trim to get her to ride well in any sea ( unless a following sea ) - the sweet spot for my boat is trim almost all the way down. You feel the bow literally cut through anything. On a flat day, I will raise the trim a bit. Obviously in a choppy, quartering sea - most boats will handle poorly - I like to really raise the bow w/ my trim tabs and this really helps that kind of sea. I waited for a 23' w/ a cabin ( not the walkaround ) - that to me seems like the ride would be less SC'ish. I would recommend it. Besides, knowing you and your abilities, you'll rip the wood from under the deck/cuddy and re-install some ultra-light, composite stuff that will put any weight issue to rest ! Good luck. |

You did such a Great Job on that boat I would Stop Thinking of a different boat altogether. I would think about better weather gear for the kids, picking better days to take them out, places to go where the sea conditions aren’t quite as bad for them, maybe side wing curtains. Or maybe a front canopy that looks kind of like a tent in the front part of the boat you can snap into place. Your kids will get bigger and bigger in a few years and then they will love the CC more that a cuddy type boat. There's a Tsunami in the classifieds here too. Looks nice, but it could be tough to pull off cross country.

Re: How much different is the ride?
The cabim would be good for overnight sturgeon fishing. It's either switch to a sceptre or get that little seafari I've been looking for. I'm gonna make a move soon. Thanks for the input fellas.

Re: How much different is the ride?
Strick-
The comments from fellow-ship are the exact response I give to all people who think a CC is too exposed to seas/weather. It's hard not to love the Sceptre layout, I saw a sweet '75 23 Sceptre with twin 130 Yamis in Green Turtle Bahamas last month. |

You getting rid of the CC ??? What kind of “weather” do you typically see out there?? I ask cause the kids will not be comfy in the cuddy if its rough. BUT If you mean you want more protection like a hard top and curtains around the windshield then the sceptre would be a good choice. As far as ride …. Scott is dead on. The boat pivots back by or on the transom when its planing. So the further aft you move the smoother the ride. Be it a 12’ aluminum boat with 10hp or a larger sportfisher with 1000hp….Its always a tough ride forward and smoother as you move aft when running. The Savage would be a great blend of both worlds for you. |

Then the sceptre is a good deal. Many seacrafts in NJ area of the sceptre variety For that very reason ... Protection I have a pic of "Water Rat" before the hardtop. I also have a picture of another I think you'll enjoy |

Re: How much different is the ride?
I can't tell you difference in the ride, but when I bought mine new (23WA)in 1989, I had the choice of the WA or the Sceptre(full cabin design). At that time the WA was the "in thing", so that was where I went. Hindsight is always 20/20 as the saying goes, after all these years, if I had to do it all over again, I would go with the full cabin design. I like the WA design for fishing, but definately not a necessity. I had a custom soft top made to give me the head room needed so I pick up a little more wind than I like at times and get blown around. We get an awful lot of wind up here in the San Juans. Friday week ago, we had a blow and at the East Point Light House (Saturna Island, B. C. Canada) they recorded 100 MPH , we had 69 mph here in town.
