Lenco-electric tabs?

I am looking for tabs for my 20' MA. Anybody know much about Lenco tabs and if they would work on the 20' MA.

I went with Bennett's m-120's couldn't be Happier ! (20' MA) Their a lil' over kill ,But these SeaCrafts are a lil' Stearn Heavy. I was advised by "TABMAN" way back to go to the larger & they are the ticket. It doesn't take much to ballast Her out. "TABMAN" will jump in here I'm sure.Their warranty & HELP is the Best ! Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

I have the Lenco's on a 25 Whitewater and they work excellent. They have been on the boat for 5 years and I have not had a problem yet. I hope I don't jinx my self. They work great and I like not having an extra hydraulic pump and line. That being said, I have heard nothing but good things about Bennett trim tabs from this site and others but as far as the Lenco's I am happy with them.

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

I have Lenco's on all my skiffs and although I like them,I go through an actuator(sp?)every year or so.They are very responsive and easy to install and replace(which you will do alot)but if you have the room for the rigging and don't mind the slight delay in response,I would say put on the Bennets, fill'em full of fluid and forget them for many years.

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

I have the same experience and opinion as Joey.

I have Lenco's on my 20 due to space limitations and have replaced an actuator a year. I actually purchased a spare as I know it is only a matter of time before I lose another. Lenco replaces them free of charge but you have to wait.

I have had Bennetts on all my other boats and have never had a single hiccup.

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

My bennets always gave me trouble because I mounted them under the deck where they were succeptable to moisture and salt. They never worked well for me. Lenco's are faster and that's what I happily run now.

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

I have Lenco's on my 1991 Mako. The actuators lasted up to a few years ago and then one crapped out and I replaced them both. Unfortunately, because they were so old and not under warranty...I had to pay for the replacements which kinda sucked. The good new is that I have not had a problem since.

However, with that said...I would have no problems switching over to Bennett's on my next boat because TABMAN's customer service is unbelievable.

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

I like the response with the Lenco's ... and almost went with them. However I was out on a brand new 24 cc with them on and one tab didn't work :D
That along with what others have said about Bennett's and Tabman, I have a brand new set waiting for springtime !! To top it off I was talking with Tom about mounting. Told him I wanted the HPU in the console, so he had a set of hydraulic lines made and sent to me ... NO CHARGE

Oh and the other reason I have them ... the Bennett "spokesman" :D

Pretty much anyone who has the pleasure of dealing with Bennett's customer service department becomes a spokesman...

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

If they both took up the same amount of room, the choice would be a lot easier. However, when space is tight, one option is smaller than the other. I've had both and have not had any troubles with either....yet.

You guys are making me nervouse. I have had mine on for 5 years with no troubles. They are noisy as hell but work fine, knock on wood. How much is a back up cylinder? I have not checked yet.

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

I wouldn't worry too much ,I think they are good tabs.Maybe I am hard on them.I use my skiffs a lot and being they are small boats and with usually two other people I am constantly on the tabs.I've never had to pay for an actuator, but I think they are only a hundred dollars or so.They are simple, simple to replace though.

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

Bryan-

as Joey said...I would not worry too much. My Lenco's were 11 years old when one finally crapped out. I wound up replacing both actuators because I did not want to have to do it all over again in another two months. I think the actuators were $60 each.

$60.00

Where?

Scott 02-19-2006 07:48 PM

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

quick check online $120 +/- for the basic lenco actuator then $200+ for the trolln tab !!

Trayder 02-19-2006 07:52 PM

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

Scott-Thats what I have seen

Even at cost I was above $60 when I purchased my spare a year or so ago.

Curious where Ed can buy an actuator for $60?

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

I thought Bennent was like the official trim tab of classicseacraft.com?

I bought 120's for the 23 and look forward to testing them this season. It's interesting, however, that my 23, with 800 hours on her when I acqired her, never had tabs at all running out of Stuart and Jupiter (the later of noted infamy). I assume that means that the Capt. felt she didn't need them.

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

Not sure about the other boats but when I had the rocker switchfail on my bennets (which Tom replaced very quickly, < a week, cant beat his service)- but my boat was a hog that I could not keep the bow down at anything short of >3K rpms. After having them and then losing them, I gar-un-tee, you will not know how you liveed without them- I know this wasnt about Lenco's, but I had to add my nickel, lol. craig

Re: Lenco-electric tabs?

Gents-

If you re-read my post...I said I "think" I paid $60 each. Perhaps it was slightly more (maybe $70)...but it definitely was not $100, $120, etc. if that was the case...I would have bought a complete new set. I purchased them over 2 years ago directly from Lenco...

Who knows...maybe they gave me a deal? All I remember is that I was not a happy camper about the price and the fact that Lenco initially did not want to sell me the actuators directly but relented in the end after I insisted.
