Disturbing Email

I got one of those boycott so and so emails today. I kept thinking about it and decided to check it out. The email was about Citgo (gas) apparently Citgo is owned by Venezalua. I am sure you have heard of this country's leader, Chavez, and his anti America attitude. I went to www.citgo.com and followed links to http://www.citgo.com/AboutCITGO.jsp and found out that the company is indeed owned by the State of Venezalua.

I am not sure that I want to do business with a company that ultimately is funding anti-American politics. Chavez has expressed interest in destorying America and promoting his socialist platform. Can anyone share a different opinion? I am hoping that non of this is true and it is all just a hoax.

Sorry if this is in the wrong area and sorry for a political topic.

Thanks,
BA

If you're going to boycott Citgo because of Chavez' anti-American sentiment, you'd best widen the scope of your boycott to include a great many companies owned by all manner of foreign countries. For those that don't get out of the country much and therefore haven't heard, America ain't too popular worldwide at the moment.

More than half of U.S. debt available for public purchase is held by foreigners, according to the Treasury Department. In December, foreigners owned $2.2 trillion in U.S. Treasury securities out of a total of $4 trillion of privately held U.S. debt. The biggest holders were Japanese, who owned $685 billion of Treasury securities at the end of 2005.

Bush insists outsourcing to India has its benefits

By Jim PuzzangheraMercury News Washington BureauWASHINGTON -

To people in Silicon Valley and around the country concerned about the outsourcing of jobs to India, President Bush on Wednesday offered something to make the practice more palatable.
Pizza.
It's just one of the U.S. products that India's rapidly growing middle class is developing an appetite for, Bush said in a speech to the Asia Society as he prepares for a trip to India and Pakistan next month. While acknowledging the individual trauma of Americans who lose jobs when companies move operations abroad, Bush said India's economic growth is an overall plus for the U.S. economy.
``India's middle class is buying air-conditioners, kitchen appliances and washing machines, and a lot of them from American companies like GE and Whirlpool and Westinghouse. And that means their job base is growing here in the United States. Younger Indians are acquiring a taste for pizzas from Domino's, Pizza Hut,'' Bush said to laughs from the audience at a Washington hotel. ``Today, India's consumers associate American brands with quality and value, and this trade is creating opportunity at home.''

Re: Disturbing Email

I am not calling for any boycott. I think we would hurt more American business than foriegn interest. I just thought it was interesting that such an out spoken opponent of America would have such a large interest in American business.

Maybe Hillary will win, then she can just ugly the terrorist down. Never mind, that would tear them up too bad and we would be guilty of cruel and unusual punishment. Good luck in '08.

Re: Disturbing Email

What is ion propulsion?
Ion propulsion is a technology that involves ionizing a gas to propel a craft. Instead of a spacecraft being propelled with standard chemicals, the gas xenon (which is like neon or helium, but heavier) is given an electrical charge, or ionized. It is then electrically accelerated to a speed of about 30 km/second. When xenon ions are emitted at such high speed as exhaust from a spacecraft, they push the spacecraft in the opposite direction.

hermco 02-28-2006 08:43 AM

Re: Disturbing Email

The ultimate speed of a spacecraft using ion thrust depends upon how much propellant it carries; indeed, the same principle applies to chemical propulsion systems, although they are much less efficient. The ion propulsion system on Deep Space 1 carries about 81.5 kilograms of xenon propellant, and it takes about 20 months of thrusting to use it all. It increases the speed of the spacecraft by about 4.5 kilometers per second, or about 10,000 miles per hour. If we had the same amount of chemical propellant, it would provide only one tenth as much velocity increment.:D

Hmmm, 10,000 miles an hour seems a bit high for my boat, I guess I'll stick with gas and keep my eyeballs in front of my face, not out the back! :D

Cindy & Chavez

It's true:

Venezuela Dictator Vows To Bring Down U.S. Government

Venezuela government is the sole owner of Citgo gasoline company

Venezuela Dictator Hugo Chavez has vowed to bring down the U.S. government. Chavez, president of Venezuela, told a TV audiance (link) : "Enough of imperialist aggression; we must tell the world: down with the U.S. empire. We have to bury imperialism this century."

The guest on his television program, beamed across Venezuela, was Cindy Sheehan, the antiwar activist. Chavez recently had as his guest Harry Belafonte, who called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world."

Chavez is pushing a socialist revolution and has a close alliance with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

Regardless of your feelings about the war in Iraq, the issue here is that we have a socialist dictator vowing to bring down the government of the U.S. And he is using our money to achieve his goal!

The Venezuela government, run by dictator Chavez, is the sole owner of Citgo gas company. Sales of products at Citgo stations send money back to Chavez to help him in his vow to bring down our government.

Take Action!

Please decide that you will not be shopping at a Citgo station. Why should U.S. citizens who love freedom be financing a dictator who has vowed to take down our government? CITGO Petroleum is the operating subsidiary of PDV America, itself a subsidiary of Venezuela's PDVSA.

Very important. Please forward this to your friends and family. Most people don't know that Citgo is owned by the Venezuela government.

I do think They nake a Cute Couple!
Tug
