S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Who would participate? Lets get some feedback along with ideas. If you & someone you know that owns a SC would participate please post it here. I think we could put something together without making it to complicated. I was thinking we could make it sometime in the summer on a Sat lines in the water @ 7:00, weigh in @ 3:00 followed by a family BBQ. I like the rockfish format where the enry fees will be the main prizes, I think we would also be able to come up with some goodie bags for all the participants that dont qualify for the grand prizes. I am sure that Miles will make an appearance soon and enlighten us on the do's & dont's now that he has put together his 2nd rockfish tourny. This is very prelimanary so please post thoughts ;)

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Sounds good to me but depends if my boat and trailer will be ready by then, I'm doing a couple of things to both this spring. I suggest the Dania, Hollywood, Ft. Lauderdale area as a good intermediate point for everyone down here.
|
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Ya, that could be fun for a day or so. I am open to what ever Port you choose. During the summer dolphin run far off shore anyway. I usually fish out of Government Cut since there is so much live bait there.

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Even better for me, I've fished there before and it's great but I don't know about the others farther North.
|
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Good stuff, keep it coming guys, If we go that route we would have to choose from Crandon, Matheson, dinner Key, Haulover etc. Personally I would love that area just because it's in my backyard and I know those waters really well. I guess which ever way you look at it there is always going to be a disadvantage to those that fish elsewhere. I wouild still be up to going further North or South. What do you guys think a good entry fee would be & how many anglers per boat. I am talking to some of the locals already on the possibility of donations for the goodie bags.
|
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Hopefully I will be splashing my boat at 6 am out of Crandon Park tomorrow morning going under Bear Cut bridge as the sun is coming up spelling salt water and anticipating another great day on the water. As for the amount of anglers our boats size kind of regulates that in themselves. And as for the entry fell what ever you guys feel you would like to contribute to “MY FISHING FUND” at the end of the day will be ok by me.

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Yes brother nothing like a little trash talking to get some fires burning, as for me I'll be seeing you in the morning @ crandon. As you head out I will be coming back in. I'll be on the water tonight at about 7:00 pulling a all nighter. What channel are you going to be on in the morning

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
I could have 2-3 anglers max in my boat, how's $25-$50 for the fee?
|
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
I think we are the only (3)guys wanting to do this, mayby I should have posted it under general :D Lets see how this week turns out, we might get some more people to chime in.
OLD SALT did you end up making a run at it on Saturday, if you did let me know how it went. We did alright Friday night, ended up coming back in a little earlier 5:00am we had a nice variety that included some tails, grovers, lane and killer size blues  I hope you guys did well ;) |
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
I'M IN
I MAY BE WITH OUT A BOAT SINCE ITS UP 4 SALE |
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
I would love to fish. What about running it somewhere inbetween like Stuart. That way south florida boys would have an 1.5 hr drive and the drive wouldn't be as long for the north florida boys. You may get more people commiting.

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Unfortunately it's quite a long trailering ride for most of us, more like 2 hours there and 2 more back. I think Noahsark wants to keep it simple, a day fishing and some socializing afterwards, with no one having to stay overnight. Going to Stuart will take quite a bit more planning and funds. I will be there for the cookout though! :D

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
I am very interested so long as my boat is ready. If you need assistance, please let me know. My wife and I run swordfish tournaments.

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
yea, yea, yea ! Now that I'm moving ! Heck, Elliot Key would be the Place! Plenty of docking,Camping, showers, heads,Coons (to clean-up).Just a few minute run from Blackpoint-Just off the turnpike or Bayfront-due east 6 miles. Then only minutes to the reef & bluewater fishing! Heck Your there before the engines warm up!I've had Dolphin on while trying not to drift into a coral head!Sails will be here still for a lil while. On the way to the reef there are flats for the Fliers/Boneheads.Some of the Best Yellowtailing just off the beach ,well coast.Wonder off the beach/coast & grab some lobster too!I was planning something like this last year but it kinda fizzled(work).
Tug :( |
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
come on now capt, you wont be moving to far north where you wouldnt be able to make the trip ;)
|
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Skiblet I would personally love to see us get to the point where we would need to find a more central location to have a little tourny where the N.Fla boys wouldnt have to drive all the way down. It being that this is the first attempt at it, I thought we would start small and simple and if we see that we have a great turnout with the pottential for something bigger we go for it then.
darkside welcome to CSC brother, feel free to fire away any ideas you might have. |
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
You know, Capt. Brad's idea is a really good one. I have spent many good times at Elliot Key and it is a great jumping off place to just about anywhere. And he should know, he's been all over this place!
|
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Ok, lets keep it simple then and make it grow. I'm still in as long as some secret fishing spots are disclosed :D and my boat is completed.
|
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Im in, elliot key seems to be an ideal place.
|
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
I also agree that Elliot key is a great place, but we have to keep something in mind, who wants to head back to the marina to p/u the family for the BBQ after party, whether it be homestead / blackpoint etc when you are trying to make the weigh in, unless your like Old SALT which will have his limit & trophy fish by 10:00 :D
|
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
I see your point, I'll probably be fishing with my son and I'm pretty sure my wife will be working so chances are I won't have to go back but I'll be willing to help transport people if we have to. After all, it's a group thang! :D
|
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
We can make Elliot key the spot if the majority feel like we should keep it even more simple by changing the BBQ after party from a family event to just the anglers. What do you think? Lets use the rest of this month to voice thoughts, concerns, etc, & have all the details ironed out by the first week in April so that everyone will have plenty of time to put it in there schedules.

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Anywhere down south sounds good to me. And what ever amount of money you guys want to give to me at the end of the day sounds ok as well. But, I will be fishing down in the Keys the first week of June and could not make that week.
Noahsark sorry I didn’t see your response to me last week. I would have called you. I usually am on channel 80. As for our catch this Sat. we ended up with 2 Kings, 4 Dolphin, one Sucker fish, 3 giant blue runners and that’s about it. Got cut off approx 10 times on small Kings and had one Sail fish hit. All in all a lot of action but not that much to show for it. We could have caught probably another 5 Dolphin but the were small and didn’t want to bring them in the boat. Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
More Info;
Elliot Key (link) http://www.nps.gov/bisc/maps/elliott_key.gif Spite highway ? Man maybe for a coondog! Camping by the Firering is the best! Get there early setup to keep the noise away & the SeaBreeze keeps most of the skeeters away! The only problem is watching yor'skiffs! I even will put mine right off the bank & walk / snorkle(lobster) :) to the bank. This place is "Gal" freindly too. The biggest concern going late spring to oct is the No Seeums & skeeters ! Stay on the outskirts & your ok.The shadows hold them NeedleNoseBiters! Stay AWAY from the Group Campsite! At least in the warmer daze! |

|
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Alright Boys I am working on the tourny bags and the first question I keep being asked by my buddies is how many Boats / Anglers "very important" I dont want anybody being left out. Also if there is anyone or you know of someone who would like to promote there buisiness/product (fishing related prefebly) and would like to contribute to the tourny bags please let me know. If you plan on participating please post how many anglers will be with you.

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
:D CO$T :D
Pirates The Spanish treasure fleets carried a steady stream of riches back to Spain. It was not long before British, French and Dutch pirate ships began to prowl the area off the coast of Florida to rob the fleet. This began an era of violence sparked by greed. The Spanish took the riches from the Americas in exchange for disease and death, and the rest of the world took from the Spanish. Much of this took place in the vicinity of the park. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wreckers Once the pirates were finally driven out a new business emerged, people known as wreckers began to salvage the goods from the wrecked ships. The curved channel through the Florida Straits with the shallow reefs on one side and the rocky shores of Cuba on the other, brought business to the wreckers several times a year. The Indians were good swimmers and were the first to take advantage of the wrecked Spanish ships. After the English took over the area and pirating ceased, traffic increased and a great number of ships sank on the reefs. Wrecking became big business in the 1800s with salvage ports all along the Florida Keys. Wreckers were given a license to operate and the first ones to arrive on the site were in control. Others who arrived late were hired by the wrecking master. Many of the first residents of Elliott Key were in the wrecking business. By the turn of the twentieth century, the U.S. government installed lights and navigations aids along the outside of the reefs so wrecking was no longer profitable. However, even today many ships and boats run aground on these reefs Maybe the chest of one of the Wrecks !!!! argh! The spot is on a supply wreck but the they had spending $$ to!I swam/dove under one of the wrecks only to come face to face with a 80' Green Moray! Way back I tangled with a moccason underwater He won so I try not to mess with toothy critters at Home! , So I left HIS Home! Backwards! See I can /will run! Huge Lobster & grouper there too! Good photo's ! (Link) ]The Park Fee's Link Ya know I may be building this Up a Bit. Too bad I won't be around here After All these Years ! :( |

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
thats awesome Capt, good old sea dogs like yourself will be missed down here in S.Fla, there aint to many around anymore, they all seem to be moving up to the mountains. You should try and make it, leave the boat back home to avoid the haul and jump on one of ours ;) I am sure we will leave you with one great last memory of this place!

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
This sounds like a good idea! I have not been to that area of the state. Is the camping first come or reservations? I would be coming from south of tampa so I would be in for 2 or 3 days.
Thanks for the work so far on planning! |
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
resurrection we would love to have you, if your looking for clear waters and blue skies come on down brother you'll find them here. Check out this link it should help you on planning your trip
http://www.biscayne.national-park.com/camping.htm After giving it some thought this is what I am thinking, feedback please!! Alright fellas in the spirit of keeping it real & simple the tournament date would be June 10th, the entry fee per boat would be $50.00, & the breakdown is as follows. $35.00 per boat will go into the prize money. $10.00 per boat will go into covering the cost for the after party BBQ (Anglers Only or family?)if family we need to re-visit it then. $5.00 per boat will be used to donate to our awesome web-site, after all its because of it that we even have the opurtunity to do this ;) I was thinking that for the BBQ we would again keeping it simple p/u burgers, dogs, chips, soda, & water. I know its not much but this is the one part that can get expensive really fast. If for some miraculous reason there is money left over that is designated for the BBQ it will be put into the prize money pot. One last thing, it would be  if we had a couple of guys step and help out with being in charge of coordinating the food for the BBQ. Let me know what you think! |
Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Tourney breakdown?
Snapper/grouper and dolphin/tuna or mixed bag? (Thinking and dreaming of fishing already) I think your cost break down sounds great for a fun tourney! My wife has always wanted to fish one and this is a perfect chance. |

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
The date sounds good, I'll be returning from the Dominican Republic that Friday. If I can be of any help I can do it the week before, from the 30th to the 2nd of June. The price is also very reasonable so I'm in and I hope my boat will be too! I can check on food prices at the base BX in Homestead or at BJ's if you want me to.

Re: S.Fla Seacraft Owners Fishing Tournament
Well I guess I will have to pass on this one due to a conflict with dates. I will be in the Middle Keys the week before and driving back to Fort Lauderdale on the 10th. Looks like you guys will have to wave at me while I am driving home that day. Sorry.
