We gott'a have somemore boat porn on this boat.

I want to know about the pilothouse. I know that Bill Potter has one that he has designed and sell's on a diffrent brand boat. A 10ft beam is needed for his.

The little I can see it may be a Shamrock copy?

Re: kernaltugboat's 27 SeaCraft

Guys,
I traded emails with kerneltugboat (Dan) the other day. The 27 is a 1969, originally a cuddy with a hardtop called a "SeaVilla". Along the way, the hardtop and some of the cuddy were removed and converted to a CC. Dan bought the pilothouse (originally from a Shamrock) for an extremely good price off the side of the road. It fits in the boat perfectly. Among other things, he's going to remove the rest of the cuddy to open up the bow. Hopefully he'll fill us in on the things I might have missed.

Re: kernaltugboat's 27 SeaCraft

I have pics befor it was hacked up, but they are on my dads computer at the Cape, his PC died, but the hard drive is fine, I bought him a new dell, and I will stuff the HD in it at some point and grab the pics. The inside was nothing special (Except for the Pilot house) It had half a cabin which was useless, so I removed it. There was no storage and plenty of wet foam..Tons of it. If you want to see my pilot house, go on ebay, search for Shamrock Pilot house (3 days left). It is almost "EXACTLY" the same as mine except for the seats, and that guy took lots of pics. I say almost, because I am pretty sure that Shamrock designed the pilot house for Someone 5' or less, or the intention was to have you sit and drive. I had to raise it 15" so I could stand in it. This made it difficult to get in and out while jigging, so I am going to cut the 15" extension out from under each door, and make it a door in itself, so I can get in and out easily. I will send pics if I ever get that far.

warthog5 10-01-2006 07:33 PM

Re: kernaltugboat's 27 SeaCraft

So the Pilothouse will be slightly modified and go back on the boat. Correct?

kerneltugboat 10-03-2006 11:11 AM

Re: kernaltugboat's 27 SeaCraft

Yes that is correct, the only changes I will make is two doors under the sliding doors, so I don't have to step over this 15" wall that the Pilot house sits on. It is a nice Pilot house if you can get your hands on one, it is just way too short. I thought the deck on the original boat was sunk in or something, but now I know it was just made to sit in. If I had done it that way, I would not have been able to see over the bow of my 27. The boat will look similar inside, I just removed the cabin, because it was only 1/2 a cabin and was useless and heavy, and the wood and glass work under the decks was terrible (Not Seacraft). I have pics from the start, when I get back to the USA I will send them out.

Looking good. Did all 27's have a keel pad or was this boat modified along the way? The 27 cuddy posted in the For Sale section has a traditional SC running bottom.

What engine is that, Cummins 6 cyl?

kerneltugboat 01-03-2007 12:34 AM

Re: kernaltugboat's 27 SeaCraft

The Engine is a Volvo Penta D6-350 Jackshafted to a HD Duoprop Drive. The 24" Keel pad was done when they converted it to an inboard years ago. I am hoping it does not cause problems, I think it will make it faster

That's a heck-of-a boat. Can you say canyon run?

Today's boatbuilders should take note and build something similar.

Don's knows the folks in Cape May that are reproducing the Silverhawk. Apparently they bought a 27 to do just that.

Mr. Keranltugboat,
I'm just curious, what make of engine did you drop in that badboy? The work is gorgeous and I, for one, am seriously impressed!
Did someone say that the boat is on the Cape? If so, it could be well worth a side trip to see at some point.
I have an '85 Scepter that I am getting ready to recon here in the Newburyport area.
Bye the way, I'm a new member to the site and it is is the work and sharing of information that I find worth the time, oh yeah, the pictures, too.

Re: kernaltugboat's 27 SeaCraft

Biglew,

I would like to take credit for the glass work, but it was John Strome at Strome Marine in Dennis. Jorgensen Marine did the engine install. I have a long way to go, still trying to figure out what to do with the transon area. the Engine is a Volvo Penta DP350 with a 60" Jackshaft to a DPH drive. The boat is in Chatham, on 137. I am rarely home, feel free to check it out.

BigLew 02-05-2007 12:35 AM

Re: kernaltugboat's 27 SeaCraft

On 137, you said. Is there another SeaCraft in the drive? I've driven by there for many years and have noticed a smaller one as well, I think. The house and the boat are on the left going south to Rt. 28 about a mile befor you get to 28.
I've been going to Chatham for more years than I care to admit; started in '55! My brothers forced me to sell the old place down on Howes Lane at Harding's. I talk to them, but not about the Cape. My wife and three kids don't like not having the place either.

Re: kernaltugboat's 27 SeaCraft

Yes, thats my dad's house. (2.3 miles from exit 11) I live next door (with all the Whalers in the back). I sold the small one, but there will be three, possibly 4 Seacrafts there this summer (My brother is looking at a Sceptre). People have come to the door several times, figured we were a Seacraft dealer. I am never home, but my dad is usaually there, if he is not fishing.

Nice guy he told me how the boats have been all over the country, maybe world tuna fishing !! I can't remember. Well it's good to see the boat with a face lift!!!!

Kernaltugboat's 27 SeaCraft is a super-sized 23. I don't recall any conversation on the 23 and 27 likeness, but after looking over the hull of the 27, it's pretty obvious. I was thinking about Mark's post ......
Quote:

Having spent a lot of time in SeaCraft 23's and owning a SeaCraft 20' I'll just say that they have little in common other than manufacturer.

kernaltugboat's project makes the two hulls look the same, while the 18 and 20 are their own animal.

Re: kernaltugboat's 27 SeaCraft

Hi Greg,

Work keeps getting in the way of progress, I was in Italy for a while. I have all the Electronics, switches, steering, shifting, etc mounted. Today I will do the rod holders and the thru-hull transducer and run the hydraulic steering lines (As soon as the rain stops) I will also find a place for the "Cabin Heater" You may not be familiar with that term, it is a device we put inside the cabin to keep warm !!! hahaha... As soon as I get my camera charged back up, I will send some pics. Still hope to get it in for Tuna Season this year, but I am running out of time. I will post fuel burn and performance numbers as soon as I can.

Dan

Re: kernaltugboat's 27 SeaCraft

Hey Dan,

Sounds great. Wow, Italy. Did you get to check out any fishing vilages in Italy? It's pretty crazy how they go out and surround the blue fin with their purse nets and wooden skiffs then club them and pull em' into the boat half alive! Out of curiosity what do you do for a living? Must be nice to travel international for work. Look forward to seeing your progress. I have been doing alot of drafting and design for my dad's boat. We got the new transom in and decided to bond another 3/4" ply to make it 3 boards vs. 2. Take it easy, Greg

BTW when is tuna season for you guys? Must be during the winter on nice days? I am glad that our tuna season is during the summer. Then again you guys get Bluefins and the other exotic tuna's. All we have are Yellowfin, Bigeye and Albacore on occasion.
