I found a 65 Bowrider!

After several months of searching, I finally found and have parked in my driveway, a 1965 SeaCraft 19' Bowrider!

This site is great, and I'm very appreciate of the support I've received during my 'hunt'.

And I want to send a very special Thank you to Otto for having assisted me in finding this gem. Anytime he's in Florida, I'll be delighted to take him out for a ride!

After so many years, I am finally now a SeaCraft owner!
And that means so much to me....
With a little luck, a picture will show here...

Carla,
Congrats. Considering your heritage, it only seems fit that you have on of these. Best of luck with it. :)

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!

Congratulations Carla! I'm so glad you found a bowrider; I felt kind of guilty buying Otto's boat, but I knew you'd find one in Florida. If you're up around Nantucket drop me a pm and I'll get you out on mine. Good luck with your boat, and we need more pictures!

Thanks for all the great comments...
More photos will come soon. Yesterday was scrub down day & checking her over...definitely things to do!

RockDoc...all things happen for the best...and I know you're real happy with your 19, congrats to you too! We should compare notes as to what we're finding out about our 19's and how to fix them.

Looking forward to next April's meeting!

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!

Carla, The '65 I bought was on ebay a couple of years ago, and I came very close to buying it then but didn't, and had been really regretting not buying it ever since. So when it came up for sale again I had to jump on it! It's an I/O, and I'm about to switch in a newer Mercruiser engine and outdrive that is currently in my '70 Seafari. The Seafari is going to be a big project; transom, and who knows what else........But the '65 Bowrider is going in the water soon!

We've got two of the oldest (and classiest) boats on this site, and I'm looking forward to seeing how you do with yours. I'll be posting some pictures of mine soon.

I was driving down I-95 on Sunday and if I'm not mistaken I saw them driving it down near Palm Beach or maybe a little more north

Nice boat !!!!!

I slowed down to look at her and I liked what I saw which even if it was another boat.

It had a name on the side but I can't recall what if was now

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!

Hey GeorgeinMiami, if it was late Sunday, yellow hull with "Lady" on the side, then that was us!!!!

I took some pictures today, this is only after a cleanup & no work done....

For you engine people...a 140 merc...very old

By the way, I've started a list of yr & hull numbers for the bowriders. If you know yours, please pass it on to me.
And yes, the bowriders should dominate! They are more rare & harder to find than the cc's.
Also, I've noticed there's no specs or photo gallery set up for the 19' Bowriders....How do we get it added?
Thanks, Carla

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!

Well, Don, It's at least partly your fault that I now own a Bowrider.

So you grew up with this boat? we always had outboard skiffs, but back in the 60's my uncle had a really cool boat that the BR reminds me of.

I'll post some pics and we can start our own 19' section in the galleries.

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!

It must really be a small world when it comes to bowriders!!! The same one as mine, only now titled to me.
Soooo, you mean you knew about this boat & didn't tell me?!!! (just kidding)
At least we all know it floats!!!
PipeDream...you've got a good one being in the family all these years...do you still have all the original paperwork?

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!

Carla, I think I came upon that photo during a late night google search for "Seacraft Bowrider". Just the photo, and nothing else on the page.......Yes it is a small world!

So, are you using the motor and drive that's on the boat, or re-powering? I'm trying to decide whether to get what's in my boat working for now, or just take the plunge and switch over to the newer Alpha I gen. II unit and newer motor I have.

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!

We are going to try working with what we have....
The engines runs, just a little rough, found water in the #4 cylinder & in the oil...so probably a blown head gasket. I know a wonderful oldtime family friend that is very knowledgeable on these older engines & with phone calls between him & Skip, hopefully will get it running in top shape (he used to teach the merc mechanics). For the price I paid and the time searching, I wasn't going to turn her down for a non-perfect engine. They too are made to last.
Are you having any specific problems with your engine?

Are we going to start the photo gallery? How is that done?

Just send Trayder the photos in an e-mail. He'll set up the gallery. I'm looking for an I/O 19 Bowrider, so keep your eyes open for me..

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!

Don,
Thanks for the info...yes, I'll email some photos in. Will you be doing the same? Love to see more pix of yours too. Also, do you know the hull number?
AND...you're looking for another one? I'll definitely let you know if I find another bowrider. What will you do with two?

Rockdoc...Thanks for the link info...yes, that's the same link I tracked down & called on...and now proudly own. When will you be taking some photos, would love to see them in the gallery section!
Sounds like you're boat is going into the water before mine...enjoy!

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!

I didn't think that pre 1972 SeaCrafts had HIN numbers. There are no signes of one on the stern, so I don't know if it has one. Yeah I'll be taking some pics to send in just as soon as I get to the boat this year. I have a few small projects I want to do ,so I'll take some shots as soon as I'm done and she's prettied up.

I'd like to get an I/O 19 just to have both models. But I'd like to make the I/O into a cool looking picinc style boat, with a nice little 5.0 litre package in it to beat the rain...

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!

Mine has a plate below where you step up to the bow area, and it has SeaCraft I.D.#328 stamped on it. I do need to get the state environmental officer out to do a quick inspection and issue the HIN for the registry to create a title and register the boat for me.

I hope to get some pictures taken (and maybe even some work done....) this weekend.

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!

As reported a couple of years ago on this site, I have a 1965 bowrider, hull #315, that my father bought new. I bought it from him in 1975. Still has the original block, Chevy 6 cyl, 150 hp, and orginal outdrive, type 1C. Have thousands of hours on it, and it still runs great. Hull number is on a tag where you step into the bow seat. I have all the original paperwork, and still remember the day Dave Shannon, Carl Mosely's assistant demoed the boat to us. I was a teenager with a drivers license, and I couldn't wait to use the boat.

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!.. Hey CarlaMF

Thanks Don for the info on your hull number.

By any chance, do you still have the Sea Craft emblems on your boat? Mine were lost somewhere in the 41 years of history before I bought, and I'd like to find one & somehow make a mold & recast it. Got one?

I was wondering about trying to repair or replace those too.

I don't want everyone thinking I'm in a SeaCraf 13 after all......

I love those Seacraft 19 decals on "Lady"

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!..

Rockdoc....Those are the ones!! If I can find a 'complete' emblem, then I'm sure I can get it cast & make more...a pair for you if interested. Looks like you've got a good '19'. That's a start!

Yes, I do have the tape 'Sea Craft 19' on the aft sides, but that will be lost when she gets a new paint job.

Got any more pictures? She maybe showing her age (until you finish fixing her up) but she's still beautiful!

More pix?

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!..

Carla... I still have mine and they are complete. But they are a bit differant then Roc's, mine are one piece including the "19"

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!..

Sounds like the VERY original set!!!! I am sooooo envious! Have any pictures of them? Next, the tough question...can one be removed without damaging anything?

Re: I found a 65 Bowrider!..

Yeah..they are just pop riveted to the boat. I'll get a few pics today and post later..
