Re: Project Boat !!!!!
Awesome!!!!

Re: Project Boat !!!!!
How much resin and mat went into making that mold?
|
Re: Project Boat !!!!!
WOW! Only a matter of time before someone did it. Tell us all about the process.

Re: Project Boat !!!!!
The hardest part was getting the old boat fair enough. The bulkhead located at the helm caused the most problems. This hull utilizes 1708 cloth, matt, and coremat in Polyester resin with a Vinylester resin barrier coat. The sides (above the chine) are cored with 1/2" PVC foam (divinycell) while the stringers are cored with divinycell and the transom with Coosa Bluewater 26. In the end you get the great mosley hullform built with modern materials and construction methods. I think it's superior to the current Seacrafts! Simple and solid!
This hull is being finished as a center console... I am working on a seafari style cuddy with a closed transom and a hermco bracket for myself. All it takes is time and money and more time and more money.... oh did i say money? |
Re: Project Boat !!!!!
How many hours of Prep work did that take to fair the boat?
Are you going to make another mold before you finish the project? |
Re: Project Boat !!!!!
Hours: too many to count. I could figure it out, but I don't think I want to know.
Mold: A mold for the topsides? It depends on whether or not I have the stomach for it. Before I attach the topsides to the hull I will have to make a tough call. I can't worry about it right now I have a lot of work to do. If anyone has a donor seafari I would make a mold off of that topside. It would still be usable afterwards. I was tempted to buy otto's seafari for that purpose but I don't have the time or resources to go get it. I don't want to make this a business. I really just wanted a boat for myself... go figure. |
Re: Project Boat !!!!!
Get some more pictures up! I'd like to see the stringer system.

Re: Project Boat !!!!!
There was a Sefari on eBay this past week, I just checked
it was already gone. The last time I checked it a couple days ago is was only about $75.00. It was in Pennsylvania. Darn-it !! Good luck, It looks great. See ya, Ken |
Re: Project Boat !!!!!

Re: Project Boat !!!!!
Very, Very Nice. Looks like instead of looking for a old one to re do we could start with a new one instead and build it out.

Re: Project Boat !!!!!
Trust me... I have no plans of doing this again! Once was fun, twice would be lunacy! All I'm trying to do is get a boat on the water.

Re: Project Boat !!!!!
Very nice! Where in NY are you?
|
Re: Project Boat !!!!!
Having shown digreg my well worn copy of the 78 Seacraft catalogue about five years ago it is a point of pleasure in having wrecked his personal, professional and financial life.
Yes, it is as good as it looks. I've been busting his chops for a while now about the 23 (make mine an I/O SeaVette, thanks). Perhaps if we all went to his house and refused to leave until he did the 23... |
Re: Project Boat !!!!!
Eastend. NICE FIRST POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
|
Re: Project Boat !!!!!
Mint Job !!! I have an older ('71?) Seafari that I would be willing to donate for the topside. Where on the Island are you? I am in Amityville & would like to meet/talk to you in person. - Doug (516)523-0056

Re: Project Boat !!!!!
Talk about raising the bar! Very impressive work.
Seriously, what is going to be the disposition for the mold when your done with it? I have been told by the misses to get a boat we can use before summer ends. I'm looking at all the trash for sale down here in So.Fla and am jonesin for my old 20MA. I'm thinking of gettin somethin to hold us over until i can score a rebuildable 20 SC. But with a mold like that, the sky is the limit. She wants me to get a hobby! Man, I think I could make this a hobby. Would anyone else in So. Fla be interested in this mold, should it become available? TC |
Re: Project Boat !!!!!
This is the first (and only) boat pulled from the mold. Talk about epic projects. Hit the water last week... it was worth the effort.

A 20 Diesel Inboard. Unreal! That has got to be the sexiest 20' boat ever. The tumblehome, teak helm, teak toe rail. WOW! What are the performance #'s. I would love to order one. For sale?

Re: Project Boat !!!!!
"If you done it...it ain't bragging"
Island Trader got it right and, knowing digreg, what you see isn't the half of it. It will be filled with elegant but hard seas solutions to practical problems. I know this guy and I'm still impressed. digreg, I'll be over in the next week or so or splash it and meet me at my dock, I need a go-over and ride. EE |
Re: Project Boat !!!!!
Am I wrong or is this the only 20' INBOARD SeaCraft known to exist? I know it is the only one I am aware of! Does anyone know?
Thought 2: If it is unique, could it be patented? |
Re: Project Boat !!!!!
I`ve had this recurring dream.....it`s your boat. How far can the bar be raised? I might be afraid to scratch it.
That`s a lotta love there. Cheers, GFS |
Re: Project Boat !!!!!
Pfft. Meh. You should see my new rig.
:o All you need now is some football tuna blood all over that deck. :D |
