My 1970 20CC is a Moesley design and all boats built up to some point in 1970, were built under his supervision until he left the company at that time.

Otto, I was also wondering if there were any CCs out there with the 19' hull, having the same bow profile that the bowrider has. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h2...owprofiles.jpg

the green boat is the bowrider, the blue is the '70 Seafari. I like the shape of that bowrider bow. I guess my main reason for asking is that I'm intrigued with whatever differences there might be between the Moesly 19' and the Potter 20' boats.

Re: Any Moesly 19' or 20' CCs out there?

RockDoc,

I believe the 20' CC originally came out in 1967. The 19' came out in 1965. The bowrider hull was designed a little differently to give more 'lift' in the bow to compensate for the passenger weight in the bow. The only way you'd find a CC on a 19' hull is if someone cut out the deck & made a CC out of it.

Moesly stayed on with SeaCraft until about March 1970 overseeing the design & construction of the boats, then left. So anything prior to that time could be considered a Moesly built SeaCraft.

David, you've done a fine job in fixing up your bowrider. I am in the process of restoring a 65 Bowrider, outboard, and would like to know more about what problems you found when you tore it all apart. Were the stringers in good Shape? The transom ? I found 'mulch' under the forward bowrider deck and I know the bow deck is not strong, but haven't dug into that yet....Just taking one step at a time.
Appreciate hearing from you.

I have a 69 bow rider that I am working on. Converting it from an OMC I/O to an outboard. Transom was rotten on the port side but solid on the starboard side. Stringers appear to be solid but I didn't take the floor up. I am putting a 115 johnson on it, what do the other 19 bowriders have for power and what kind of speed do you get?

The suspected culprit for the rot on the port side is the blidge outlet. http://www.myfishingpictures.com/img/103575.JPG

Re: Any Moesly 19' or 20' CCs out there?

For whatever reason, I could not bring up your pictures, but would really like to see them. Help?

Test sheet in 1965, shows a 100hp merc on the back, with 4 people weight, and speeds of a little over 34mph. A 115hp should push her into the 40's.

I went to a fish & boating show recently, looked at the mercs, 115 optimax, 2 stroke. The Merc rep had been with the company for over 25 years, very familiar with the old SeaCrafts of the 60's, and highly recommended 2 stroke over 4 stroke. He said 2 stroke has more 'get up' that you'd want with the 19'. Always something to think about.

Re: Any Moesly 19' or 20' CCs out there?

I don't want to start a fight.. but.. I have a 67 Bow Rider and its been in my family since it was new. It came with a 100hp Evinrude in 67' best it would do with 4 people and a full tank was 30 mph. In 75 we replaced the 100 with a new 115 and then the best it would run was 35. I ran that motor till 2000, with the aid of modern GPS it still ran out to 32 mph with 2 people, full of fuel. I replaced the motor with an 88 spl (I'm a big fan of the V4's) and the boat will run 32mph with the same load of 2 people full of fuel. If you want to run in the 40's your gonna need a 150 or better. IMHO.. its best with the 115 you'll burn right aroud 6 gph with it and you'll run at 75% throttle 95% of the time which is best for a 2 stroke and have a nice cruise. If there are any nay sayers out there over this info.. stop by.. I run my boat every weekend I'd love to take anyone for a ride and they can look at the Gps themselves  lol

for some reason myfihingpictures site is down this morning. Those speeds are good enough for me epecially with the fuel consuption of this motor. Your right on the consuption according to the performance report on http://www.johnson.com/docs/200002/0_US.htm#

That wa one option, a friend that lives in suffolk took it as a work platform to rebuild his docks. It should float good after it drained for a couple weeks. That foam holds water forever.

Gigolot,
Saw your pictures this morning. You've still got the original SeaCraft 19 Emblem... and the id plate looks in great shape! Just like the name on your boat "Lucky Devil"!
How far along are you on fixing up your 19'?
Saw in another post of yours, about going to the Sailfish Marina. I don't live far from there, maybe we can tag up sometime?

Carla,

thanks for your insight into the hull difference and the added lift for the bowrider hull.

I thought your bowrider was an I/O. Are you converting to outboard?

My '65 is coming along, but slowly. The new Mercruiser is 1/2 way in.

Rockdoc,
You are right, my boat is a 65 Bowrider I/O, and have been enjoying it in the 'as is' condition, still using the old, old Merc, seems to run pretty good....so far.
But...I am working on a 66 bowrider outboard version, but has no engine, (my Dad's boat), fixing it up for him.
What all have you accomplished so far on your 65? Any pictures?

Carla,
If you don't mind me asking (and PM me if you feel it's more appropriate), how is your father and what is he up to these days? Does he ever check in on this site?

Things are coming along pretty good, got ALL the wood out, ground out the the inside where holes were to glass them over from the inside, one piece of plywood cut gonna glass in all the holes this afternoon and if the weather will let me the new transom will be going in tomorrow.

My plans are to cut notches in the wood where the drain hole is and where transducers will be mounted and filling them with glass so water intrusion will be almost impossible.

I would post the pics on here but I am sure the moderators wouldn't like that much bandwidth.

Well after finally getting my truck ready for inspection I got to work on the boat somemore this evening, got two layers of mat on and one layer of chop.If the weather allows tomorrow I will be gringing that down to see how many more layers I will need and doing that in the morning, then build the splashwell and put the transom in in the afternoon. I am gonna attach the splashwell to the inner transom before glassing the transom in.

Gigolot,

Pictures are great and showing the progress...looks good. Keep us posted. Will you be mounting the engine directly on the transom, or on a bracket?

Yes, great pics, and I'm glad I don't need to get that far into my bowrider. My skin's itching just looking at all that fiberglass work!

I havn't set a date to do the pour yet but im looking at wednesday or thursday of this week. I will have all the fiberglass work completed this weekend and a form made to fit the inner transom to pour into.
