1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Hi everyone,
Well, I can read the writing on the wall and the fact is I don't think I'll be able to repower my Seafari any time soon. So, since I don't have any place to store her, I fear I have to sell her while she still looks good and before she starts deteriorating. So here goes: 1970 20' Seafari Transom, stringers and sole rebuilt in 1999. No soft spots. Painted in 1999 with 5 coats of Awlgrip Winter White 140 hp Mercruiser also rebuilt in 1999 with approximately 250 hrs. Alpha One Gen I drive recently refurbished with new u-joints and gimbal bearing, 0 hours since repair. Newly refurbished trim/tilt pump with new aluminum mount, solenoids and exterior SS hoses Both trim/tilt cylinders completely rebuilt Twin Optima Blue Top batteries 2003 Continental aluminum tandem axle trailer with LED center lights and excellent tires, very little use. 1 year old white deck mount Ritchie compass Almost new set of "real" white on white Gaffrig gauges (not the Livorsi copies) Furuno GPS Raymarine fishfinder Jensen AM/FM/CD player with 2 coaxial waterproof speakers 4 rod holders 15' Tigress telescopic black/gold outriggers on side mounts Coast Guard equipment Spare tune-up parts for engine Bimini top with cover Complete set of clear side curtains to completely enclose forward cockpit, barely used and in storage bags Two anchors with chain/rope rodes Small fan in cabin Destroyer type helm wheel Boat is in very good shape except for the following: Engine is seized Small crack in sole forward of the tank hatch by the helm seat Plywood side coaming panels deteriorating Right rear access hatch bowed (someone stepped on it) Everything else on the boat works and is in good shape http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...r/DSCF0097.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...r/DSCF0087.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...r/DSCF0086.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...r/seafari6.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...r/Seafari5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...r/seafari7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...r/Seafari2.jpg As you can see the boat looks and rides great and all it needs is a new engine and some TLC. She's a perfect candidate for a new I/O or a bracket and O/B since all the hard work on the transom and stringers has already been done. I'm asking US$4990 for the whole thing but I'm open to all offers. She's located at Homestead ARB south of Miami. Hopefully someone can adopt her and give her a good home soon! |

Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
By the way, I forgot to add that the fuel tank was also replaced in 1999 and it's all aluminum with approx. 30 gal capacity.

It also has a built in Porta Potti, never used and the cabin cushions are almost new. You can contact me at colonpr@bellsouth.net or 305-388-3489.

Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Nestor - I'm extremely bummed for you, to have to let that boat go - but I also thank you for the info you had posted here on CSC, which was instrumental in me buying the one I got - it truly is the most capable boat I've ever had.
I'd like to ask you a specific question about your outriggers, and what you think of them in actual use - I'm assuming those are the Tigress 1 1/8" models - I've seen some reports that those poles are too soft, to whippy, to get clean releases - and how well do those bases function, smooth, easy, well made ? What are your impressions ? thanks !! Bill |
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Thanks buddy, it sure is a bummer. That was my stress relief and I've noticed my short temper lately since I don't have it anymore.
I'm very happy with the outriggers although I had to exchange them once because the spring pins that hold them in place when extended did not extend out enough and the riggers would sometimes collapse when running hard. Make sure the pin extends at least 1/4" out of the hole. Although the bases worked OK I was unhappy with the fishing angle when swept to the sides. Since the bases were installed on the side of the decks, I didn't realize they angle inwards and when fishing they don't drop downwards enough. If I were to do it again I would spend the extra bucks to install the TACO Sports Slam outrigger bases, the wide variety of angles and positions available would be perfect for this boat. I measured them and the bases would fit perfectly on the decks next to the helm which would make them super easy to lower and raise, especially going under bridges. If the engine hadn't seized that was going to be my next purchase. I saw the whole TACO package, bases, riggers and rigging in the internet, I think eBay, for about $700 which is a great price. |
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
just a couple more questions - looking at the boat pix, those seem long -
are they the 15 ft or the 18 ft or ? are they the 1-1/8" dia. or the 1-1/2" dia. ? good input on the spring pins - I wondered if you can only put it out 2/3 of the way if you wanted a tighter spread ? -or would it not lock and be a problem ? thanks Bill |
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
They're 15' and 1-1/8". And yes, you could just extend 2 of the 3 extendable sections for a shorter spread.

Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale

Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Hi,
So sorry to see that you're selling your 70 boat...! She looks great and I know you've got her well equipped... and such a great price too (she's worth more!) If I believed in the four-boat-theory, then I'd nab her for myself! Hope you find a good home for her soon. |
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Thanks buddy! I just don't want to see her deteriorate too much under the sun before someone adopts her.
|
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Still trying to get her adopted guys, remember the OBO part! Also posted on Miami Craigslist> http://miami.craigslist.org/boa/261370727.html

Can't beleive it still for sale!!
Its a real nice boat that with new power would make someone a happy owner |
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
This is definitely NOT the time to be selling a boat! Not even the "OBO" is bringing in any offers.:(
|
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Well, either the boat market hit rock bottom or I'm asking too much for her. I'm asking $3200 OBO, what do you guys think? :D

Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Nestor, We feel the boat pinch during the winter months in Florida as well. The price is low even with the engine trouble.
Your boat is about as nice as they come. Soon as we get into a decent weather pattern, it will GO! See ya, Ken |
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale

Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Well, at the risk of sounding like a traitor, my dream has always been either a Bertram 26 like this one with fold down arch and twin 240 hp Mazda Rotary engines:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ailer_strn.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../1660009_2.jpg or a Bertram 25 like this one with twin Volvo D3 190 hp diesels: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../1573081_1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...orpr/j13la.jpg My family had a 25 in the late 70's and it's a fantastic boat, big enough to handle just about anything and still trailerable, especially since I enjoy all aspects of the boating life, not just the fishing: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Cangrejos4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...r/Uztakia2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Cangrejos5.jpg These were taken in 1977 Blue Marlin fishing about 10 miles north of San Juan, Puerto Rico in the Cangrejos Yacht Club annual tournament. We came in third with a 418 pounder. One day I'll have one like it again! |
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Nice boats, love the vintage pics.
|
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
I've been slowly scanning all my old boating pictures in my computer but still have 1000's left!
|
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Had a nice couple from Key Largo take a look today and seemed very interested, it's very close to what they're looking for. Found a place at the boat show that will send me a brand new engine for $2500, engine & outdrive for $5700. If it doesn't sell soon I guess I'll repower her and then ask for a lot more!
First $3000 takes her!! |
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Looks like she is sold on Ebay!!
Good luck on you new purchase .... Seafari's still rule!! :) - Nick |
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Yay!! Yes, she has been adopted and will be living in Jamaica, NY. The bidder has already given me a deposit so it's a sure thing. He had a Seafari some time ago and wants her back so he made sure he won the bidding. He's coming south this week to pick her up so she'll finally get the care she deserves. Thanks for the support guys! :D

Well, they do!!
Thanks buddy! Nick, what do you mean if she holds together, having problems? |
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Great news Nestor,
What now? Sceptre possibly? Hope you stick with us, The right one will come along. See ya, Ken |
Re: 1970 Seafari I/O for sale
Hi Nobones, thanks! As for what's next well, let's see what's available out there. A 23 Sceptre would fit the bill as well as a 25 Seafari! I think most non-project boats have sold already and many of them are beyond my range so I'm now going thru the past For Sale postings here and in the internet to see what I find.
