Please post your wiring pictures.......
For those that have reworked, neat wiring and panels you're proud of please post pictures to give some ideas. The Contenders probably have the best I've seen so far.

Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
i hope there are some good examples shown. this will be beneficial to me as well soon..
|
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
I will be starting this process hopefully in December and will post what we are doing. I am having my wire printed for each application.

Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
I have the wiring schematics for the silverhawk boats. I'll scan them in and see if i can post them. The original builder sent them to me probably over two years ago, just have to mention that they were originally drawn by Mike Witte.
I'll try to find them.. |

Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
There is a bunch more than this in my boat. It has a bunch more system's than the average 23ft boat.

Nice Warthog!!

Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Nice work warthog- tell us about the nmea box- looks like what I need- those tinnie wires are difficult to route especially when in the same sheath with the 12vdc main power wire. With a center console and a whole lot of systems and very little space to put them all it is very difficult to make it look as clean as your set-up. I sure tried on mine- Brad- you sure did a sweet job on yours too. It makes the appearance look better when you can get your wiring away from your dash gages and motor wiring . I have all coming together in the same spot ,engine wiring, gage wiring, including all the wiring coming out of the t-top, electronics, antennaes, etc etc etc. what a mess. stranger!!!!! craig :D

Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Couple of ?'s Wartog. What's on the Racor side of the fuel line before the bulb? Do you have a pic of your switches? What's the "power pak" thing under the rear cap?
|
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
AWOSOME JOB WARTHOG.

Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
The NEMA box is a Radio Shack "Project Box". It's plastic and has a screw on cover.
There is a piece of Starboard mounted in it and the terminal board screw's to that. It get's it out of the bottom of the box to work on easier. Terminal strip was from Radio Shack too. There are hole's drilled in the box to match the grommet size needed for the particular wire size. Small tye wrap's on each side of the grommet's to act as a strain relief. |

The "power pak"s are for the fly by wire control's. Those are the servo's. Wiring is connected to those and it convert's it to mechanical action the move the shift/throttle cables. That the only place the cables hook up. It 'ain't cheap! Those box's are stainless and weigh 10lbs ea. These are the conversion kit's to change a factory control to a fly by wire setup. http://www.techmarine.com/ http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...hMarine008.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...hMarine009.jpg The only pix I have of the switch's right now is not quite complete in the pix. http://www.classicmako.com/bobby/Finish%20Work4.JPG A 8 gang Blue Sea's switch panel goes in that hole above the helm. |
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
I'm trying to figure out the attachments on that PowerPak...
the rods and levers...looks like offsets to mount something over it too. It is an AWESOME job... |
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Very nice indeed!!! Trick controls too!! I'm also looking into the Blue Seas switch panels. It looks like with their switches you have to have seperate anchor/nav. switches as opposed to the old pull/3-ways.
|
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Reelescape- you do have to seperate the anchor and nav lights. what sux is when you have a masthead and a seperate sternlight where you really need that 3 way switch to make the aft side of the masthead go out when you want running lights alone. I think I have it figured out though. (gotta put a jumper wire from running light switch to one/fwd masthead wire on the anchor switch)

Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
That would work!!

Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
As to the 2 switch methiod. You don't need it.
But you do need to order switch 8220 Double Pole- Double Throw. ON/OFF/ON. http://www.bluesea.com/product.asp?P...=7459&l2=7489# |
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Rookie question, but why use so many terminal posts and bus bars? Is it to save wire? They seem like open accidents and trouble spots just waiting to happen, plus they have to add to maintenance.
|
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
I'm sure your referring to the one in the back. It is coated with fluid film to protect it. That is the connection point for all the pump's and float switch's.
Ok, now think about this. Most boat's have the wiring all crimped and sealed for these and that's fine untill you have a problem and need to do some testing. Then you take a test light and stab the insulation to test for power. You have just screwed up the watertite integrity of the wiring. :( So enter the terminal board into the system. Now I can prop the terminal's for power. I can also do a quicker componet swap too. Here's the drawing. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...PumpWiring.gif |

Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Warthog
In the NEMA box, Are you going to crimp pins on the wires for the block or just the bare wire end??? I'm duplicating your set-up. Thanks for the idea!!! |
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
The design of that block and the way it fastens you can't solder end's to the wires. I just stripped double the length I needed and folded that area in half and twisted it to form a larger gauge wire.
On the madian voyage I had lost imfo to the VHF. I knew right where to look and found a ground wire wasn't tightened enough and came loose. [my falt, they are tiny screw's] A 5min fix on the water. |
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Would you post a pic of the finished wiring?? :)
|
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Here's a few more pix's I took this morning. I had a PM askind some specific question's.
You need to understand that this boat has a LOT more system's than your average boat of it's size and what I have posted so far is just a piece of the overall wiring. In the main console, I haven't posted any pix's of it. It's not as neat looking as what you have seen so far. This is because I don't want to cut any factory harness's and you have to do something with the excess. It's very crowded in the STB console. The question was asked about protecting the main feed to the fuse panel that I posted. There is a Blue Sea's surface mount circuit breaker [CB] and a Blue Sea's mini ON/OFF switch to kill power to that panel. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...5/PC020970.jpg This is a volt meter that you can check each battery to see where it stand's on charge state. Beat's the heck out of going and getting the VOM and check each battery. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...5/PC020972.jpg |
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Picked up a dpdt switch for my nav/anchor lights today and cant figure out how to wire the damn thing now. on-off-on
i need it to light both forward and aft masthead light in one(anchor) position i need only the forward masthead, and side lights and a transom (white)to light in the running position. I have rear stern light so i dont want that aft masthead to light when in the nav light position- (otherwise i am showing 2 whites from astern, and im not towing, lol) this dpdt switch has 7 spades on the rear, - anyone tell me how to wire it to make it work properly? still want to keep the instrument lights on a seperate switch so i can leave them off when running in the dark on those dark moonless nights. dont mean to highjack the thread- thanx- craig :D |

Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
thanx WH- does that schematic mean that 2 hot wires are required for the center spade fittings? that might be my problem
|
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
I would say yes. Each + feeds the corrosponding sides line connection.
|
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
thanx RE- seems like they would give you some damn instructions when you pay that much for a switch!!!
|
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Quote:
All you need to do is run 1 hot wire to the switch. Install 2 wire's in a female spade terminal and with the extra wire make a little jumper wire with another female spade terminal on the end of it to hook to the other connection. Just a loop jumper wire. |
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Here's some other wiring I did on a 20ft Mako.
The boat has a single DT-140 Suzuki. The batteries were moved inside the console. It has a Start & House battery with a Blue Sea's ACR unit to charge both batteries. It also has a 3rd master switch to combine the House batt. to the Start batt. if needed. I don't really like combining the batteries with the ACR to start the motor. This is due to the amperage load of the starter motor. Blue Sea's has since come out with another new setup that look's pretty neat. http://www.bluesea.com/product.asp?P...&d_Id=&l1=&l2= http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...amsBoat001.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...amsBoat002.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...amsBoat003.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...amsBoat004.jpg |
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Very nice WH!!! Would you post a pic of your finished NMEA wiring??????
|
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
I'll have to take the cover off the box to get that pix. There is not much to it. Most of the wire's are not used.
The GPS interface's with the VHF [2 wires] and then interface's with the Navman 3100 [don't remember how many wire's, I think it was 2] All the other wire's are just tucked back. I don't have the Furuno 582 interfaced with the GPS. I don't see the need for it and it just add's redundant clutter to the FF screen. Yes it would add depth and temp to a waypoint entry. So what? http://www.smileypad.com/v224/Feelings/Dunno2.gif |
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
That's kind of what I wanted to know anyway. My new Garmin gps has bare wire ends I have to join and was planning on the same box for it and the NMEA wiring. Just looking for ideas!!
|
Re: Please post your wiring pictures.......
Any of those exposed bare wire's not used, it would be a good idea to tape them so they don't short together.
