a call out to Don @ Hermco
Don -
You used to have pix of a 20' Seafari done up, blue hull - can't find that on your website anymore - Would love to see that again, any chance of posting it in here ? I have a hankering for doing a blue hull / white bottom scheme - want to see that blue boat again.... though maybe I'll just go with a white bottom on my red boat thanks Bill |

Re: a call out to Don @ Hermco
I could be wrong, but I think the one you are referring to was Potter's own Overnighter.
It was for sale on the site some time back. Click here. Don probably still has a picture.. |
Re: a call out to Don @ Hermco
Big - nice ad - hadn't seen that one before - but not what I was talking about - but that helps
Rich -the Overnighter, as I recall, was a yellow hull, a variation of the 20' Sceptre the one I was thinking about was a blue hulled 20' Seafari with an O/B mounted on a bracket. thanks Bill |
Re: a call out to Don @ Hermco
He had two I think, an orange colored and a blue one, both had brackets.

Re: a call out to Don @ Hermco
I always liked the Blue hulls, just not a red fan in anything but that damn mustard yellow was ugly- love Fighting Lady Yellow though. Do the blue and with the white bottom that looks nice, although the blue boat in the add with the white stripe looks sharp as well.

Re: a call out to Don @ Hermco
Regarding blue hull boats ...
My other boat is a sailboat, with a blue hull, white deck. Looks nice, but..... Broke down in the bay & needed a tow (won't go there with that story). Anyway, called a friend to come give us a tow. It took him a long time to find us! Come to find out, our hull blended in with the water...so I decided that day, never to have another blue hull. Just my 2 cents. |
Re: a call out to Don @ Hermco
There is an old saying that blue hulls are bad luck, green hulls turn for the grassy shores of home ealry, and yellow hulls well are yellow. Dont you know I have one green hull and one yellow and as much as I like the looks of that Flag Blue I just wont go there. :)

Re: a call out to Don @ Hermco
I love the deep yellow myself, looks even better with a full white bottom!
|
Re: a call out to Don @ Hermco
I WANTED TO DO A COLORED TO BE DIFERENT AND DISTINCT NOT LOOK THE SAME AS EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE WATER.......... NOW I THINK IM DOING POLAR WHITE OR A SIMILAR COLOR THERE SEEMS TO BE LESS AND LESS WHITE HULL BOATS. I THINK SCRATCHES TO THE HULL WILL BE EASIER TO HIDE AS WELL.
JUST ANOTHER UNDECIDED REBUILDER |
Re: a call out to Don @ Hermco
I still love the fighting lady yellow with a white bottom. My 1st Seacraft was like that. A '73 23' SF w/ twin 115 Mercurys.
Sigh. |
Re: a call out to Don @ Hermco
Nick got the pix I was looking for - Thanks
Fr. Frank - what sort of performance do you get out of your Seafari with the 150 Merc ? blue hull = bad luck ?? - hadn't heard that one before - seen plenty of blue hulled boats, but damn sure don't need to invite any bad luck - gotta think about that one a bit. thanks, gents ! Bill |

Re: a call out to Don @ Hermco
Hey Bill,
From what I know it kind of follows Carla's story. Blue ships are hard to see since the ocean and sky (most of the time) is blue. I have also seen that long ago blue paint was expensive and may have fed the lore at some point. Of coarse many boats are blue these days. I love reading all of this stuff and there is a lot of it out there. If you go for the blue hull just dont whistle on the way to the fishing grounds while eating a bannana after leaving on a Friday in a boat named Porky the Pig. |

The US Navy paints their hulls "Haze Grey" as to make them invisable on the horizon. I remember Mr. Potter telling me that SeaCraft purposely chose 4 distinct colors for their hulls so they would be Highly Visable out on the water. "Yellow, Dark Blue, Red and robins egg blue." http://www.classicseacraft.com/broch...edium/0015.jpg |
