Need Insurance Help!!
We have a 1979 rebuilt Seacraft and we need to get insurance on it. Progressive and BoatUs won't give us insurance because it it old. So do you know where we can get some insurance? Thanks

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
are you sure about progressive. I just filled out the form for agreed hull value @ 10k for a 1972 hull and it was $412.00.

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
Boat US insures my '73 Tsunami for roughly the same.

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
1969 20 insured for agreed value of $13K with progressive-online placement took about 10 minutes and I am on my third renewal-$310.63 annual premium, deductilbe is $250...in Florida

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
I had BoatUs on my 1978 SeaCraft that sunk. It cost about $500 per year for a $15k policy (no deductable).
They paid out 100 cents on the dollar when the boat sunk. |
Re: Need Insurance Help!!
Peter...so they paid out the $15k...did they consider that they owned the hul at that point??? That's what they usually do with totalled cars.

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
After my rebuild / bracket install on my '78, I had a survey done which included upgrades and electronics. I presented the survey to my insurance carrier
(State Farm) without question. Maybe "fellowship" can give you help, he's in the business  |
Re: Need Insurance Help!!
Charter Lakes here with agreed value policy with recent survey.

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
Yes, the boat became theirs. However, they gave me an opportunity to buy it back from them at a decent rate (which I did).
I will probably sell it after I get my next boat (which looks like another 23' SeCraft). |
Re: Need Insurance Help!!
You can put it on your home owners insurance. You state the value. I use AAA.

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
I spent 500.00 on a survey before I travelled from Florida to Texas to buy ours. Progressive accepted the survey value of 25K. Hope this helps... If you need a surveyor go to the SAMS or NAMS website and locate one in your area.

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
I insured my 1970 Seafari with Progressive over the internet with no additional forms required.

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
'72 Seafari, agreed value of $12K: boat, motor, & Trailer with State Farm, $250 deductible, added to my automobile policy, $29.31 per month additional.
'74 Tsunami, Boat US policy, agreed value of $8.5K boat, motor, & trailer, $250 deductible, $277 per year. |
Re: Need Insurance Help!!
I electronically applied to BoatUS and I was not able to insure the boat as I do not currently have an insurance policy. I never wanted to insure the boat until I repowered, but the boat, new motor, and new trailer are all of a sudden worth quite a bit more. All I could get was liability insurance for one year, then I can get the boat etc. covered.

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
Question...the boat and trailer sitting in the driveway, home owners? In transit, auto policy?

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
Yeah, BoatUS was a also a no-go with me but Progressive gave me no hassles.

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
Finding insurance in Florida is not quite as easy as other states. In Florida they don’t want to write much business so additional requirements will be needed to get a quote. You will pay much more in Florida and in the Keys it’s the highest in the State. Because of the age of the boat most if not all companies will require a survey within the last year to establish the value of the boat. Then when you call with a survey in hand and the value stated on it you have a better shop. If you just go with liability coverage it would be much cheaper and you don’t need the survey. I think the Johnson agency if I remember correctly does a lot of business down there and they might be able to help.

Re: Need Insurance Help!!
After reading all your costs for premiums,i'll probably start shopping around again, but might end up using ST.Paul fire and marine,on my 74 Tsunami, when its finished.
I currently have them for insurance on my 87 Trophy, with an agreed value of $9,500.00 for the boat, along with $2,000.00 for the trailer, and about $400,000 in liability. My yearly premium is about $406.00,that is for keeping the boat in New York. Most carriers would'nt even give me the coverage,as they said it was to old. When the Tsunami is done,i'll most likely get it surveyed so that i can get more coverage. God knows,i'll need it after the money thats being put into this project.I've got to find some creative way to finance this obsession. The insurance agency was McGRIFF,Seibels & Williams 800-277-6698.,out of Alabama.I think i found them thru Boatus. |
