Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

Ok, Boys and Girls. The date is set. Here is the deal.
We have all worked to put a group gathering together.
That would be basically a weekend deal. The Moesley's
have graciously decicided to join all of us. This will not only be a tribute to Carl for his wonderful design, but a true family meeting.
You will have agree for the most part that we are all like minded people. Now what I need is a count for who plans to come for the day or the weekend. Blondie (wife) and I plan to tent camp Sat. night. What I would like to do is have plenty of paper plates and hardware (from Sam's Club)and that if every one brought a covered dish, we could have a pot luck lunch or dinner. Between Egg, Snookered, and myself we would have enough grills to do hot dogs and hamburgers. All other suggestions are welcome. Egg Suckin Dog has agreed to map out rampage and parking. Maybe a small donation from everyone and I will get the dogs and burgers and buns.
This will be a memorable event. Bring folding chairs, folding tables if you can. For those of us that will have our boats there we can run a shuttle for those that do not.
I plan to contact Florida Sportsman, Bennett trim tabs etc.
They may find this event beneficial as well.
Please PM or call me or start with this post so we can get a count ASAP. Shoot, I will even buy Capt Chuck his favorite malt if he decides to come. Most of us on the East coast could get a caravan going and come togther. If all goes well this will be a time to remember. The moon will be just past full on these dates. Lets Do-It!
See ya soon, Ken :D

I of course will be there, I am also local and can provide any info needed as I'm there anyway. I will say this, its the most beautiful place you have ever been in Fla, I have been a bunch of places trust me. I will do some recon prior to get the exact best place on the island and really it would in most cases be only 1 night so the essentials are minor. I have emailed all members that posted an email and have recieved many responces and I also have picked up guys from Fla Sportsman that I didn't even know had classic's. Call me with any questions you might have as I said I am local and will recommend a plan of action for you. 813 880 0922, there are different traffic patterns and ramps depending on where your coming from, we want you to have a wonderful and easy weekend, so call me with any questions- GPS numbers will be provided for any grouper guys and also snook and Red's spots, frankly right off the beach is as good as any, quite a place. I will posts some pic's, but its everything you ever invisioned as a tropical paradise, there is nothing on the East coast that compares by the way.

We have a beautiful state we live in, We are blessed
with the many diverse areas of the whole state.
Can't wait to get there, Ken

I'm gonna sit down with the calendar and little lady this weekend and make some plans. Most likely, we'll just come up for the day. Leave early and just buddy boat with Resurrection and his 23'. If things work out, I'll get up early that Sat, hit the "WAY" for a well full'a whitebait and head on up.

Guys, these opportunities don't come along everyday. Especially those EAST COAST GUYS who are whining about distance. With Florida Sportsman, Bennett, Ect. possibly on board, do you really want to be the CSC guy who regrets not being there because you just HAD to watch the same episode of Ship Shape TV were the GMAN Rebuilds the transom of the 1970's SeaBird :D????

Here's a little caption and GPS#s I found on the web.
Anclote Key is an island off the Gulf Coast of the U.S. state of Florida, located at 28°11'16"N, 82°50'44"W near Tarpon Springs. The island is accessible only by boat and is split between Anclote Key Preserve State Park and Anclote National Wildlife Reserve.

My wife Kimberlee, my son Jack and I will be there SAT & SUN for shore! To heck with hot dogs and hamburgers! THIS IS A CSC GATHERING. I WILL PERSONALLY BRING 5 POUNDS OF SHRIMP FOR THE BARBIE. Let's make this Martha Stewart/Emeril event not an Elks/Moose one. ------Brian

I will give Nick(BIGSHOT) a jungle, too.

I am planning on bringing the wife and 3 kids. Roger that on the shrimp Briguy. As EggDoggyDog and No Bones have said, this plan works with having it be an event that's for anyone to be there:

you, GF, wife, kids, ect., whoever-except any owners of Sailfish Boats :D

Trayder has the banner now, But Capt Chuck said we can get it. I have a good friend in the sign business, he will
make any thing I want with his digital laser printer.
I will take care of this.

I have a Whaler banner

Update: Baja has been sold for about 2 years now. All I can do is maybe 40mph in my 1976 19 Revenge(115 Suzuki 4S) on a good day. I actually might bring up my 13' if we are not going in the gulf. Bought it new in 1982(father), sold it in 1986 to my neighbor, then just bought it back and shipped to FL in July....weird but cool.

Then again I do have that Kawasaki Ultra 150 that will run 70(can't get better than 68 with my fat ass on it). For sale by the way.

Whaler group is probaly gonna show,,,,not definate yet.

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

If anyone is looking to buy camping stuff I just bought a new tent from these guys, island tents have unique requirements to be small for storage and open windows for the wind-if the fly comes down too low the tent will blow over-not good. Here is the link to what I found to be the perfect island tent-and its cheap. I bought cots too and the taller ones fit and give you storage underneath. I have been through a couple that just plain didn't work.

That way we can at least do them via email.

We don't need no stinkin Whaler banner :D

ESD, the wife and I will be over on Sat and I will bring my nikon digital. We are coming from Gainesville what is the best route?

TarponTom 02-25-2007 03:45 PM

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

dljohn, I would come south on I75 to SR56. West on SR56 which turns into SR54 until it dead ends at US19. South on US19 to Alt19.Alt19 to Anclote Blvd. Follow that west to Anclote River Park. That is the closest ramp to Anclote Key.
Wavelength, there is no facilites there at all, you have to bring everthing with you.

They have compost or something out there, it was pretty ragged the last time I saw it but that was last year, there nice bathrooms and cold outdoor showers at the Anclote ramp about 3 miles from the northend. I tried get out there today to check it out but the wind would have made it a long ride, so I stayed closer. I will be camping next weekend pending weather and will get an up to date report.

I just want to add that the Martha Stewart of boating and camping was in fine form with the cheese burgers today, hasn't lost her touch and knew exactly where I needed to go for a salt shaker we haven't used in 6 months, how does she do that?????? she is very good at the island cooking, this was baby stuff today LOL

No overnight parking at the ramp but I have a guy that has a private ramp that I will try to get permission for us- Tom its the Landings, either that or drop the boat in take it around the corner to the park at the power plant. I'll know more in say a week. Tom how about Nicks Park for him easier to find at least.

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

Here is a link to terraserver that should show it and then you can expand and move around with the pic;s Anclote is the northern island the bar to the north is the North Bar. I'll check the link myself.

Closer view, the target spot for camping is right at that tip of sand on the north end or the North Bar - you will need 2 anchors.

I can do Saturday, only. Sunday is my busiest day. ;) But barring some parish crisis, I'll be there with one boat or another. I'll bring the family. The Seafari and the Tsunami have only been wet from rain for over 8 months. Time to give one of them a drink of saltwater. See ya.

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

No way to just run them up on the beach or is this an anchor and wade spot?

eggsuckindog 02-27-2007 11:50 AM

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

Its pretty deep up to the beach so not much wading but you need to anchor stern to the beach so you can get in it, plus you'll have some boat traffic. See Hammers 20 picture on here.

abjohn 02-27-2007 01:29 PM

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

Aha! I just checked it out on Google earth. I could not find this Hammers 20 picture you speak of though.
What's that small building up there on the NW corner of the island (just off the beach)? Are campfires aloud out there? I'm fix'in to trim my Oak tree, by then we'd have some good burning wood.

eggsuckindog 02-27-2007 02:12 PM

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

It maybe the pavilion although Tarpon Tom nor I have ever seen it as the offical camping is new on the island and they say they have 3. I wasn't able to get out there Sunday due 20 MPH-S winds but plan on camping and poke around this weekend. Campfires are allowed and NoBones was bringing some as well. I will attempt to post Hammers boat pic, as it will be similar conditions but the boats can get very close to the beach no problem.

eggsuckindog 02-27-2007 05:14 PM

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

Here is our target area, that building I think is new since last year and may be the elusive pavilion. Somewhere right in this area we will find a perfect area to set the boats as depth is 2 to 4'.You can see a boat at the beach so not much wading. Can't wait to get out and check it out. No more pic's, probably killing the bandwidth :D

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

Wanted to include a few pics of North Anclote Key for those that haven't been there. I like to camp and anchor just south of the most North West point, about 1/2 to 3/4 mile, I have lat/lon #s I can pull off my GPS. You want to be just inside the outer sandbar. The exteme north end has some pretty swift currents and boat traffic which is not comforting at night. I had a sailboat drift into me a few years ago, doesn't help the sleep factor.
First pic is looking north toward the point, you can see what a beautiful place it is.
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...m/IMG_0102.jpg
This is the most problems you will have to deal with!
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...m/IMG_0141.jpg
This may give you an idea of how close you can anchor. About waist deep usually.
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...m/IMG_0151.jpg
It's paradise and by the end of April the water temps will be perfect. Bring everthing with you though, no Wal Marts here thank god!

northern members would like to join us. I'll just get a bigger tent! :D This will be more fun then you can handle. See you there, I can't wait!!!!!!!!!

Dude we can pick you up, thats a long drive for 2 days hauling a boat, I wouldn't do it, just come.

I personally like the inside so I can walk to the boat knee deep 10 ft away, WAIST DEEP   my nads can't take that it won't be 88' yet :D

By the way looks like the weather will be crappy this weekend.

Re: Anclote Key Gathering 04/28/2007

Thats where I noticed the comments about about the pavilions, I would bet they have fixed up the bathroom on the northend as well since it appears they added 2 more at the other pavilions, 20+ winds so another week of mystery awaits. That building is new, I know there was nothing up there except the bathroom and thats too big for that, good spot though. We also have the North Bar as an option most folks camp over there because it has a great sheltered anchorage. As the pavilions are first come first serve my guess would be it needs claiming on Fri which I could do also, same stuff 2 nights or 1 just little extra Bourbon :D

Thanks buddy! I guess I could drive to that area in about 6 hours (without a boat of course) and meet someone at a dock somewhere. I'll let you know early enough if I can make it and thanks again! Jorge, how about it, think you can make it too? Sounds like a good time! :D
