As my wife could tell you most of my freinds are great people. She is happy to point out that I am the one who gets people in trouble.

There is only one person she can think of that gets me up to no good. It's that evil Don Herman from Hermco. Every time I check out Hermco.net the saws start comming out and I have marker lines on a boat tyhat could have been fished two years ago.

But then I see the full transoms and sealed vents. The fantastic motor brackets. But then I had to go to gallery two on the Hermco site. He has a boat he made longer. I go to sleep at night wondering if that's the reason I accidently bought a longer trailer. Maybe my 23 walkarround would be happier living out it's life as a 25 foot walkarround??

With the bracket my boat would fit perfectly on my trailer. My wife says we can't move closer to or into Florida as I have been asking because she knows I would sneak my boat into Don's shop. Not great for a starving lure maker who hasn't really worked a real job in 2 1/2 years.
Has anybody ever added length to a seacraft before?

I shouldn't put all the blame on Don. Strick, Bigshrimpin, and oh yeah Warthog are also somewhat to blame on a boat that may spend more of it's life in the (High Desert Skunkwerks) then on the ocean. :D

Mike it's gonna be ok....don't worry everything is gonna be OK.

When I was first afflicted with the boatrestovirus several many years ago I thought that I was really sick. In fact most of my friends and family thought I was crazy. I began to believe them and I went into a period of isolation....UNTIL the internet boom.

Thats when I found that there were many other guys that had the same incurable virus...men (and a few women) from all walks of life. Carpenters, computer nerds, doctors, dentists, and attorneys?

What I learned was that you have to take it slow and easy. Restore one boat at a time.... not three like my friend Bigshrimpin. His sickness has run rampant and is on the verge of ruining his life.

So what I'm trying to say is that you have to try and control yourself. One boat every three years is about right. Look at Bobby Wartman (warthog5) he is under complete control. He is now working on building artificial reefs instead of boats. See how you have to learn self control?

Another thing is to try and connect with a local guy in your area that has the same problem. You can become friends and drink beer and smoke cigars together while you work on boats. One more thing is that you need at least two boats. One to fish out of and one to work on...at least thats he theory but what I've found is that I'd rather work on boats then go fishing. Thanks for the prerspective. So if I understand it right I do have an illness like my wife says, but it's like a small drinking problem where as bigshrimpin is a full out restoreaholic and in need of an intervention.

So what do you think of adding 2 feet or so to a 23 W/A. I think it would be a more stable boat for a small tower. That would put my OAL at about 27 with bracket. I have a ton of resin and cloth plus some nice marine and some oak plywood.

More time then money because I bought the boat for almost nothing with a 225 merc with almost no hours.

But I would rather have two 150 four strokes on the back. I'm not into speed but would rather have the dependability of the twins.

I don't trust oil injection. The good thing about oil injection is you know pretty quick when it stops working. The bad thing is it's too late to do much.

BTW, I have to come clean, I have four boats in my yard I'm working on....I need help.

Correct. Bigshrimpin is in need of some help with his Seacraft addiction and we are just normal. :D

About adding 2 feet to the boat. Thats a big undertaking. Doable but something that will take a long time to complete. I don't know if I would do it myself but it's been done before. Here are a couple pics of stretched 23's the first is a 26 albin and the second I don't know who makes it. Remember that adding 2 feet to length only gives you 2 feet in length. The difference between a 20 sf and a 23sf are many. Taller, wider and longer. They are two very different beasts. I've often thought it would be nice to have 23 that is 2 feet longer and a little wider as well say 4 inches wider per side. Then you would have a boat that was proportioned to it's length. Make a mold of a 23 and then modify the mold. Any how just a few thoughts. One more thing. There was a fella on Classicmako that added 2-3 feet to his Mako I could not find the thread. But it came out really nice.

I guess I must be in denial. These projects are no different than an art class or a bunch of old ladies sitting around knitting. This board is considered social interaction . . . Right? Maybe a little obsessive compulsive . . . but it beats golf or tennis. I still maintain that there is nothing wrong with owning 7 outboards and 2 boats.

I think you and I are in the same art class. I have two sailboats a 26 ft Searay, a 24 foot Searay a twenty Searay (I don't even like searays) and the walkaround plus a couple boats in the framing stage, several outboards and outdrives.
The other hand if I ever get my butt in gear I have a great shop and a ton of equipment includeing two fork lifts three milling macne a cnc lathe 7 ton hoist a 1 ton hoist three welders three large Air compressors and all the wood working and sheetmetal stuf you would want.
It's all for hobby stuff unless my wife says go make me this or that.
I just wish I had more boat intersted friends here in the Mojave to play with.

BTW... You are not alone. I have a project boat (Mako 21) that is going on 4 years since project inception. I haven't really touched it in the last 2 years though. I am planning to put a big dent in the project next fall/winter after I get this other project back in the water... that is if hurricane season is pretty quiet again this year.

Yep, 25 miles south of Daytona Beach, FL.
Born and raised in Daytona, moved to the country 2 years ago. My house is 3 miles to the world famous Mosquito Lagoon. My buds I grew up with call Oak Hill, "Down Hill"
The infrastructure down here is not that up to date.
Hence the Down Hill theory. It is truly Gods country
here. Peace and quiet. Best part is when they have a launch
from the Space Center, it is only 18 miles to the launch pad. The view is spectacular.

NoBones, I was looking for real estate up that way some time ago. About how far is it to the Orlando airport from there (how long would it take to drive to it)? Is there a website where I can check out homes and land for sale in your location? I've been wanting to move to the Space Coast for some time now and may have finally convinced the wife to get out of Miami, nice town but WAY too expensive for the middle class to live here! You have to be either very poor and get government help or independently wealthy to afford it, but most middle class families are having trouble making ends meet. :(

I want to build more, but my pocket book will not let me.

Now I spend all my time at RFRA welding reefs for deployment. It's a hell'va deal. Join the club for $35 a year and you can have all the reefs you want to deploy. Free to use the tool's and the materials are free. We are a 501c3 not for profit organization. Good folks to hang out with and we have a really Cool clubhouse.

Ivan tore the crap out of our reef habitat here. We are fixing that. There are 32 reefs sitting on the property ready to go right now. this is for recreation, charter boat and commercial fisherman. We have most all the local fishing clubs meeting at our clubhouse now and we are aprox 450 members strong. There is going to be a revolution and we are a force to be reckoned with to bring back Pensacola,Fl as the Red Snapper of the US. It's time to go fishing. :)

We will even have our own TV show once ever 2 week's on local channel's.

Hey Chaos, I missed your post before. Come down any time.
I was going to go through your way and I wanted to visit strick, bigshrimpin, and you to see how your progects are going but the hound deal fell through
I sell a lot of Walker Hounds to that area.
I think I will leave the making a boat longer to Don. I don't want it to look like I did it.
I just got offered a bracket for a twin engine set up in the crate for 900.00.
For that price I can't miss.
Then I only have to close my transom.

The "Tail Chaser" is made in Key West by Steven Powell. He made a mold for the bigger boat and new cap to fit it. I think he markets it as a Powell Craft.

Steven use to work for Bacle Boat Builders. They make 43ft Torres and a 48 stretch. The 48 comes out of the mold as a 43 and they lay up another 5ft section in the mold, then cut the 43 and fit in the 5ft section and glass it all together.
