MY YOUNGER SON HAS THE BOATING BUG
Last Sunday my son and I were driving around and we saw a 13 whaler for sale and we stopped to look. It was real nice package with a very clean boat and 40 yamaha AND TRAILER ASKING $3500. l
Later that night I spoke to the holder of the check book and she said lets go look at it and if it's as nice as it sounds lets get it for the 2 boys. I have a 12 and 15 yr old, and since it was a boat I always wanted she was ok with it. Well the next day we went back and the boat had been sold. The next day I told my younger one we should keep looking. WELL HE DID !!!! Yesterday he comes to me and says dad I found MY boat. He had seen one around the corner of my house, knocked on the guys door and CLOSED THE DEAL. He got a 13 whaler that needs some work (I'll post pics later) no motor with trailer for $500. He has the boating bug for sure |

Re: MY YOUNGER SON HAS THE BOATING BUG
Thanks Nestor,
Both of them were eyeing your boat and were about to make you an offer :D |
Re: MY YOUNGER SON HAS THE BOATING BUG
$500 for any 13 Whaler was a steal.
You need to let the boy's do the rest of the shoppin' for it. Good Luck, Ken |
Re: MY YOUNGER SON HAS THE BOATING BUG

Re: MY YOUNGER SON HAS THE BOATING BUG
congrads!!! I know I had a ball growing up in that same boat which was my first boat!!!! I think everyone in the neighborhood learned to waterski off the back of it, until we got bigger and would pull the heck out of the poor thing!! Now my mother has it!! Well good luck!!!

Re: MY YOUNGER SON HAS THE BOATING BUG
That’s great news! My brother and i started in an 11 whaler, then moved to a 13. They will have life long adventures. Of course the small but sea worthy whalers where tenders to our parents' potter 23SC.
Best regards, Christian |
Re: MY YOUNGER SON HAS THE BOATING BUG
Thats how I started bought a fixer up boat for next to nothing from someone down the street then sold it for a 17 mako then a 20 seacraft. All boats I did work to.

Re: MY YOUNGER SON HAS THE BOATING BUG
Thanks for all the words of encouragement
I think I found a 17 whaler that may need less work and will last longer than moving up in the next few years. Plus dad can sneak out on it when they are in school  |
Re: MY YOUNGER SON HAS THE BOATING BUG
I might know someone who is interested in the 13 if he wants to sell

Re: MY YOUNGER SON HAS THE BOATING BUG
Well I am glad you successfully Infected you kids. This is kind of like taking them to the Dr. for a Chicken Pox vaccination. It will prevent they from getting infected with Bad influences that we as parents are always concerned about every day in our society especially here is South Florida. Just limit them from going to the Bahamas until they get their sea legs.

Re: MY YOUNGER SON HAS THE BOATING BUG
Those 13 foot whalers are a lot of fun. My dad had one (a 1965 w/a 35 HP Johnson). We used it everywhere from the Hudson River to Cape Cod.
Last summer I bought a 14 Starcraft with a 9.9 HP engine for my 13 year old son and his cousin. Personally, I wanted to get a whaler but NJ state laws won't allow them to drive anything with more than a 9.9 for a couple of more years. When that happens I will either get them (and me) a whaler or a Wahoo. |
