Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
Craftsman with time needed. Read on: I have am original Tsunami/Sceptre ladder, it's rare-to-impossible to find them anywhere. There are no new ones and there's nothing that really works like it. These ladders are made of a composite/molded plastic and swivel closed when stowed ( great space saver - perfect for the boat ). It's used to gain access to the deck from the cuddy. I have no time to re-invent the wheel, so I'd like to make a proposal: I'll send mine, at my cost, to someone who has 'the head' to look at it, re-engineer/design it with easy-to-find, light, quality materials and then supply the spec to everyone on the site. Then, send me my ladder back ( I'll pay again ). This way, everyone who needs this thing can have an EZ to follow materials list, diagram and how-to-make-it directions. Then again, maybe no one needs this thing ( but me ! ) Any takers... |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
We have Daytona Plastics down here which does custom work.
Let me check with them tomorrow. If they think they can copy an CNC cut several out, it would be good for those of us that want and need one. I will get back with you. Ken |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
If you'd like to get a couple people together in order to have a few made, I could check with Select Plastics in Norwalk for pricing. I don't think they'd do drawings/specs though and I don't have the skills to do that myself. Actually, to even get a rough price, they're going to need a decent picture and a guess at the overall size.
Whereabouts are you in LI? If on the North Side, you may even want to just take a trip across the sound to Norwalk. Select Plastics is across the street from the public dock/ramp. I also work in NYC, if you do as well, maybe we could just meet up there. http://www.selectplastics.com/ |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
Can you post a couple of photos and maybe where/how it stores on the boat....???
|
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
Having this thing re-molded would be the best idea, but I think that such a small run would make it cost prohibitive. What do you guys think ? |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
I'm optimistic that anything can be built or handmade.....post some photos. I have a Tsunami and have been trying to think of how to build and store a ladder for bow access....this sounds like a design I could copy.

The only way we will find out is if they look at it. Once they set it up in the CNC cutter, it will be there for life. Get with me on shipping it. Ken |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
No bones - check your email.... |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
How aboutthe photos.....I'll take a shot at making one just going by the photos???
|
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
abl111, is going to send it to me, I will do my best to get a good price on a reproduction. With over 560 boat manufactures in Florida alone, there are plenty of shops that do starboard fabrication. I will keep you posted when
we come up with something. Ken |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...

Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
hello guys,
looking for a ladder too....... |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
For what it's worth, original ladder was made by Mayfair Products, as described in a Feb '73 Boating magazine test of the Scepter/Tsunami.

Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
No bones, you still in ? Send a message back when you can. |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
Bushwacker, that article from boat test was on this site a couple years ago.If anyone has it,i would gladly pay a few bucks for a photo copy of it.
I'd like to put it in my records/scrapbook of my Tsunami restoration. I think it was feb 1973. As for the ladder,i'd be happy to purchase one if they ever become available. I work for a ladder mfg.and tried to get them to come up with something, but unfortunately they're not interested. |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
John, I have the Tsunami/Sceptre article that I cut out of magazine that I had a subscription to back then! :) They tested boats with twin 165 I/O's and twin 150 I-6 Mercs. How about I get it and a factory brochure on the 23 SF that I picked up at Miami boat show years ago, scanned into a .pdf file and send it to Trayder so he can add to the Literature section on the site. I also have 2 Seafari 20 brochures already scanned that I've already e-mailed to some of the Seafari owners. Will send those to Trayder also. Denny

Any updates or photos on the ladder project ??????

Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
I would love to know too...I was thinking of making one too, but if there is a plan or pictures out there...I'ld love to see them.
Thanks, Joe |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
I saw one on a post here within the past month. It was folded up but I cannot remember where. If we get info on them I have resources to have some manufactured - whether wood metal or composites. I will try to find the post that I saw it on. If I remember correctly it was a two piece fold up design.

Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
John - I never got a response back from Jason on putting the Sceptre article with ladder picture in the Literature section, so gave it to my daughter last night to have her scan it. Should have in a couple of days. If anyone that wants it will send me a PM with your e-mail, I'll send it to you when I get it.
I've seen those ladders; they were made out of some sort of plastic about an inch thick. They had two steps and there was a hinge at each end of the step which allowed them to fold like a parallelogram. Shouldn't be too hard to make one out of Azek board; might be able to scale the photos to get some rough dimensions. Haven't checked yet, but there may also be some photos showing a ladder in some of the Scepter brochures in literature section. Denny |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
Guys,
That was my ladder and I completely dropped the ball. I was supposed to mail it to "No Bones" in Fla for inspection / manufacturing ideas and costs. It's just been outta sight, outta mind. I have to get on it. The original design is great, but the manufacturing quality stinks - I've broken two of these ladders in the same area - it's not my weight either. But, when they work, they are perfect for out boats. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y49...1/DSC00026.jpg |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
Come on Alan, go ahead and send it on down....
Or better yet bring it with you to the Long Point gathering. You and Otto could run a caravan to Florida... :D I'm ready to see what we can do with your ladder. See ya, Ken |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
Looks like the fold up length wise....how did they mount???
Do they mount where they can fold and somehow lock into place when you open them.... |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
Take a look at P-7 1n 1973 Catalog in Literature section. Shows ladder mounted in cockpit and forward in cabin below the windshield/hatch.
|
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
You nailed it, that is where I saw it, as a cockpit boarding ladder and as a ladder to go to the for deck.
|
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
NoBones, I'll try to do it this week. I'll check my PM for your address... |

Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
My 1978 sceptre did not have a ladder when I bought it but I sure would like to check into one. It's not getting any easer to get up on the deck. CHAZ

Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
I promise that I will follow through with getting this
ladder to the fabrictor to be estimated.... Once the copy is made the cost should not be outa sight.. See ya, Ken |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
I will send this thing out by this weekend. |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
So I don't have to try out my acrobatic skills to get on to the front deck? My boat did not come with a ladder. I would definitely be interested in one if they are not too cost prohibitive.
Thanks, Matt |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
FYI: Did not get a chance to send it out and I'm away on biz for the week. This coming weekend I'll pack it up and ship it out. |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
NoBones - Mailed the ladder out today. Don't laugh at the wrap and tape job. My SC restoration certainly was done with a lot more precision ! Let me know what you find out. |
Re: Tsunami/Sceptre ladder - Craftsman needed...
NoBones - have you found out anything yet on having the ladder I sent you manufactured ?
