New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
Well, it's June 1st - seems like it's time to start putting this together ?
Location - Bay side vs Chatham area or other / Newport...?? time - Mid July.. other... ?? Fishing or cruising or partying ??? combination of above ? Let's ...Get It On !!! Bill |
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
How about the August time frame for this years meet as the fishing may be a bit better?
|
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
Make it the end of August, I might just get a wild hair and trailer-up! Bug (Lobster)season starts August 6th down here.
which puts me out for the first of the month. Shoot Bill came down to us, one of us have to come to you!! :) See ya, Ken |
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
I keep my 23 cc in the Oyster river in Chatham and it becoming an icreasingly tricky place to boat, there is one square mile after another of very shallow water that is constantly shifting.Great fishing but a tough place to have a gathering unless it was inside of Stage harbor.

Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
What about Vineyard Sound? Oak Bluffs Harbor would look pretty good filled with SeaCrafts. For people that are trailering it will be a-lot closer than Chatham and there are many ramps with easy channels & harbors to navigate. Falmouth's new Inner Harbor ramp is excellent with ample parking.

Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
The later it is the more chance I have of being there with mine ;)
I hope there is an inshore SBFT run again :D |
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???

Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
I'm likin this - Vineyard sound works, too - though the albies can be pretty finicky - but especially with a crew, we could easily pop down to the Hooter, Wasque area, or stay inside, depending on conditions -
Just a note, though, Vineyard Sound tends to get a little wind blown in the afternoons, and can get downright snotty - been there, done that  Bill |

"Just a note, though, Vineyard Sound tends to get a little wind blown in the afternoons, and can get downright snotty - been there, done that"
That's why we all have Seacrafts!....LOL The nice thing about the Vineyard Sound is if the wind does pick up there's plenty of great fishing spots that are protected from the wind. If it's nice there's a good shot of school bluefin not far off the backside, we did well on them last summer, but they don't always come in tight. |
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
We went through this last year at the Cape. We wanted Chatham area but settled for Barnstable due to all the issues mentioned.
FWIW, we switched to the Cape last year from the normal Narragansett Bay/Newport locale to mix it up a bit. Based on the fishing potential and facilities I'd rather we alternate back to Narr Bay this year. |
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
Agh come-on guys!!!
Or Egg Suckin Dog will come up to get you guys to pull this off. Just set it and forget-it!!! As Sam Walton said "Build it and they will come" Set a place and a date. You cannot please everybody. Those that can make it will come. Good Luck, Ken |

Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
Ken,
After you set up the New England meet, will you cme stop by and see the Jersey crew? You could be like those guys who travel around the country seeing ball games in every major league city. Peter |
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
Shoot Peter, I have NASCAR in my back yard and could care less. When you grow up in Florida you have two choices Golf or Fish, To many places I have not fished yet. I will leave the Northeast gathering to you guys. I'm still worn out from Anclote.... Travel is on top of the list, I love a new adventure!!!!!!
See ya, Ken |
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
Ken we could be the southern representitives of the Florida Seacraft Fishing Team. "A drinking team with a fishing problem"
|
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
I'll drink to that! ;)

Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
Newbie here...I like the sound of late July early August. I'm in Plymouth so bay side sounds good, but The Oak Bluffs idea seems fun too. Falmouth is very trailer friendly and easy to get to from anywhere.

Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
Anyone ????
All I'm gonna say, is that we have alot of choices - but as we found when we backed off of Chatham last year, many are quite weather dependant - Given that, and it's central location, I'd vote for Barnstable again - the Chatham guys can come west, the Narragansett guys can come east, and I'll come further south than any of ya - Let's Get It On !!!!! Bill |
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
I'm up for either location, but may not have a Seacraft ready by then. I'm moving to Harwich Aug. 1, so I've been a little too busy to finish the bowrider restore. I could show up in a Maritime skiff if that's allowed......

Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
For those wanting to wait until the tuna are in .....
They're here !!! I'll be down in Dennis, on the Cape, the rest of this week, the GF has a cottage down there for the week... might even get some fishin' in.... :o reports are, there are tuna all over CCB, SWC !! tight lines !!!..... and pray to the weather gods !! Bill |
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
I've already picked up a few on the NWC, the fish have been early this year and the bite has been consistent using bars. I haven't done the run & gun with spin rods for them yet this year. The Chatham bite is on as well, but I haven't run East yet. I was planning on going later this week, but the weather doesn't look promising at all.

Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
I was on the north west corner yesterday at first light and didn't see but a few whales, marked very little bait and saw only 5 other boats out there. That was the first time i've made it to that corner. usually fished the south east corner and couldn't belive the amount of life down there. As for yesterday. I started at the double LL's and worked north and saw nothing. Kinda choppy thought i'd be a good day.

Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
from what i hear, you guys would be crazy to not do the barnstable location again. tuna everywhere on spinning gear and trolling. Why couldn't they be like this last year when i had my boat. tuna from billingsgate, to fishing ledge, to the gurnet. 40-60 lbs. Awesome

Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
Well, I'm down for a bit, for some possibly serious engine maintenance - gotta pull a head off and see what caused a sparkplug gap to get closed up, electrode pushed in.
Worst case, a rebuild, probably be out 2 - 3 weeks (I've done a lot of motor work in my life) I'll let anyone else take the lead on this. Bill |
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
Sounds like wrist pin or rod bearing. :( :(
Compression test should tell if it is top end or bottom end. Good Luck with it Bill, Keep us posted. Ken |
Re: New England Folks - Cape Cod gathering ???
Ken, et al -
I believe I got lucky, it was a soft hit, probably carbon, that pushed in the electrode. Con rod bearings are fine, compression is good, 115 - 120 all cylinders, visual examination shows everything good, closed it up and ran it on muffs - sounds just fine. Goin back in the water - just not this weekend - I'm off to the Vineyard for the shark tournament !! Bill |
