Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Two quick things.
First, I want to thank Donny, Joe, Chris and others for trying to set something up at the Flying Cloud. The times just didn't work out for me. Second, I have an idea that I want to pass by the team. I have a house in Highbar Harbor, NJ (right next to Barnegat Light on LBI). I am prosing a late fall (some time between mid November and early December) fishathon for Blackfish and Striped Bass. I have room for quite a few people at my house. I will probably take close to a week off during this time and welcome anyone (even you non NJ folks) to come. Let me know what you think. Peter |

Peter
Just set the date and stick to it....I have tried a few times to get things together down this way ,,But times and dates dont always work out for everyone...Today was to be the date of AC. I went fishing and there were total 4 old SeaCrafts fishing next to me only about 600 yds from the Flying cloud Restaurant,I knew all of them and NONE go on this site.I wanted to have backing from some of the Classic SeaCraft members before I put in the work.. If I were you just set a date and run with it...I do not have a trailer and cant take a full day from work, I work 7 days. So since I was doing the work on the get together I set times and dates that worked for me..And it did not work out Joe R 20 1970 cc Susie II |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Peter,
Are you sure you want Finster staying in your house? |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Ah, Chris is welcome over any time. He knows where I live anyway, and he was the one who pulled my old SeaCraft out of the water. (guy in red cap)
[image]http://http://www.myfishpix.com/gallery/data/500/sunk6.jpg[/image] Also, just to be clear this is a fishing trip and anyone from the CSC family (even Jason) [img]/forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img] is welcome. My boat can easily handle 4 guys and if we have more people than boat space I am sure that we can figure something out. Peter |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Peter, you do need to be careful of who you invite. Ever since ScottM stayed at my place we've had to adopt a "NO SPOONING" ordinance. :o :D

Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishath
Rich,
I like your thinking about the tourney. Jason, It would be great to have some RI & Mass participation. FYI, at this time of the year the Blackfishing should be a given. The bassing is a little less preditable. In 2005 we had awesome bassing. We had big schools of bass that you could catch by throwing metal & storm shads at them. We had a couple of days where we were cacthing 100+ bass. Last year was not as good. Mind you we still caught bass, but it was not as automatic (at least this was my experience. Richard, what is your take?) Peter |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishath
If the spring run is any indication we should have a great fall for bass. I would also like to include night fishing in the fall, as that is when we have a lot of fun trying to net the fish in the dark with the tide running, dodging the bouys. Scott R is also in. You have 2 23 SF's for the tournament.

Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishath
Thanksgiving is November 22.
How does the week of Dec 1 work for people? I can do anytime from Saturday, Dec 1 through Sunday, Dec 9. Also, on the boat front, it sounds like we have three 23' SF SeaCrafts ready to be fished (plus whomever else wants to brng a boat). Net/net, right now it looks like we will have plenty of fishing space for whomever wants to attend. Peter |

Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Ok all,
Here is my latest line of thought. I am aiming at having the fishathon either Wed, Nov 29 through the weekend or Wed. Dec 6 through the weekend. You are invited for all 5 days or any combo that works for you. This should be prime time tog & bass fishing for us. Who is interested, and which one of the two dates works better? Here are some pictures of the house that I will be happy to put up any travelers at. Obviously, since this is my house there is no cost for anyone who comes. Also, I hate to burst your bubble but I don't think that the pool will be open. web page Please let me know what you are thinking. Thanks, Peter |

Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Just pulled the SeaCraft out of the slip to give her a good going over for the upcoming bass & tog fishing season.
http://www.myfishpix.com/gallery/data/500/scf1.jpg http://www.myfishpix.com/gallery/data/500/scf2.jpg I am still planning on being down at LBI for either one of the above noted weeks. All are welcome. Just let me know. Thanks, Peter |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
OK everyone,
I plan on going down to LBI to fish for both Blackfish and Bass on both Friday, Decmeber 7 & Saturday, December 8. All are welcome. When I last fished down there two weeks ago, we enjoyed the best blackfishing that I have seen for several years. We limited out on tog in about 2 hours, as well as caught many keeper seabass. If you are interested in joining me, juste send me an email. Peter |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Peter-You can count on seeing me up there one of these days.......Your boats looking good.

Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Great to hear Danny. You and the rest of the Florida crew have an open invite.
Looks like none of the northern CSC contingency is interested in catching any tasty fish. On well. |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Alright Danny, In the holiday spirit you and I could catch
a plane to the frozen tundra and GO FISHING!!! BTW: I would have to buy long johns and thermal socks.. When God sent me to Florida he gave me 30W blood. Those that he sent up north have 90W stock standard :D See ya, Ken |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon

Peter,
I'll see you out there on my last bass trip of the year. If you have any shirts left please bring 2 of them (L). You can make a sale at sea. I'll be on 78. I'll call you on the cell tomorrow. Rich |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
My parents live in Morris county that is about 1 1/2 hours from exit 100 on the parkway. If I can break away for the day I am totally in. My tackle will be limited to a 25lb class rod and Avet reel which is good for up to a 20lb fish. The dates that could work best would be Dec 27th or 28th. Where do you keep your boat?
|
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
My brother in law and I caught about 30 keeper blackfish to 9 pounds today. We fished for about 3.5 hours. Pretty awesome. We kept the limit (8 each) and then played catch and release. We were letting 6 to 7 pound tog go.
The boat right now is off of Exit 63. the nice thing about this area is that we should enjoy fishing for a couple of weeks longer than the Northen NJ waters. My wife and kids may be away in Wash DC the same time you may have some free time. let's see if we can work anything out. Don't worry about tackle at all. I have tons of stuff. |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
We went out agin today and slayed them one more time. We limited out in sveral hours. I had one huge blackfish on that broke a 3/0 circle hook about 10 feet from the surface. I wish I saw him. In the beginning he was taking out drag on a tightend down Saltiga 30 w/65 pound braid.
Talk about bull dog. Here is a shot of yesterday's cooler [image]http://www.myfishpix.com/gallery/dat...lbiblack31.jpg[/image] Here is a picture of my brother in law's 9 pounder http://www.myfishpix.com/gallery/data/500/lbiblack4.jpg |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Peter,
My parents had a house on LBI for about 17 years. Right on the water in Beach Haven about 1/2 mile from the end of LBI. How far are you going out to get those blackies????????? COUNT ME IN!!!!! |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
It is 9 nautical miles from Barnegat Inlet to my Blackfish honey hole. Actually, it is a 200+ foot wreck. What a piece!!!!

Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Brian,
Are we still on for Dec 27 and/or 28? The blackfish are still biting. Peter |

Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Brian and his dad, Bill, were rewarded today for driving two hours each way to Blackfish. I will let Brian provide the details.
Peter |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Peter, Please say that Brian's dad Bill out fished his
boy.. :D Glad you guys were able to hook-up :D (no pun intended) Happy New Year, Ken |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Ken,
Well, everyone on the SeaCraft (I had five people) limited out. The limit is 8 fish per person. Each fish has to be at least 14 inches. I will leave the fish stories, complete with pictures, up to Brian. Peter |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Peter-Nice job. Brian where are those pictures? There is a topic on how to post picts, if you need help :D
|
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
I borrowed my mom's camera and she should be emailing them to me tomorrow. I have posted pix here in the past. Fish story and pix to follow.

Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
Brian,
Where are those pix? |
Re: Proposed NJ SeaCraft Blackfish & Bass Fishathon
I gave Brian 3 weeks to post his story and pictures. Maybe we will all see the pix one day.
Net/net, here is the past due fish story. I took Brian, his day Bill, my brother in law and my nephew out Blackfishing. The waters were very warm for late Dec (47 degrees). We targeted the same wreck that we had been slaying the Blackfish on. The wreck is a 250 foot beast. When you are over it the bottom goes for 80+ feet to about 65 feet. We started fishing around 9am. By 1:30pm everyone had caught their limit of Blackfish. We packed a 96 quart cooler to the point that we could not shut the top. Early on Brain caught a 9 pounder and he was hoping that would be the big fish of the day. Nope. Later on my nephew caught an 11 pound slob. Moments after he reeled it in Brian's dad, bags one that's close to 12 pounds. All in all, a very productive trip. I have caught Blackfsih all over NJ, NY and NE, and I have to say that this wreck is far and away the best Bfish spot I have ever seen. I fished it 6 times between Nov and Dec and limited out every time. Also, real quality fish. Hopefully, I will get some other CSC members to join us for the Dec 2008 trip. Peter |
