1973 23' Potter built CC

Well, I hate to do it but I think I am going to put the old girl up for sale.
It's a 73 CC, which I refurbed about 5 years ago. It's a stock layout with pop-up cleats/lights, s.s. hawsers and rodholders, new windshield, has vhf, cd player, brand new washdown/livewell setup, dual batts w/switch,new wiring, racor.
The motor is an 87 Evinrude 225 that runs strong and has a new rebuilt l/u put on it this year.
Towmaster alum bunk trailer with S.S. hardware.

The problem is that a section of the bottom skin delaminated, it's the section between the inner and outer "steps" on the port side. I just don't have the time to get into it, and I have been thinking of downsizing to a 20'

I can't tell you how much I loved owning this boat, and if it doesn't sell than I will just keep it until I have the time, but it makes sense to let her go.

I'm asking $8000.00.
It's featured here:

Yea, I don't know what's the matter with my computer. I'm getting nothing but red'Xs :(
Bill- the delamination that's occuring. Do you have it defined as to what's causing it? Is is faulty glass work on the outside, a bad stringer causing water damage from the inside, was there water trapped inside? I'm working with my fiberglass guy who told me it could be a number of things but we would have to grind till we got out the "blackglass", then start over.
Pics to my e-mail when you get a chance. Thank you

Re: 1973 23' Potter built CC

I've gotten some e-mails with questions, so let me answer them here.
First off, the boat is in Ct.
The damage to the bottom first happened a couple years ago. As I was running along in a slight chop, I clipped a log or something. This exposed a delaminated section of the boat, and the force of the water peeled it back.Aside from the thump, I couldn't even tell until I got it back on the trailer.

So I took it to Norwalk cove and they gave me an estimate of $1200.00 as I recall. But, they were to booked to do it, so I did it myself. Now, a couple years later, my repair is delaminating. It didn't exactly rip off like last time, but one edge is torn off.
In retrospect, I think I either didn't prep it properly, or more likely I didn't wet it out enough. I was working alone, and it's a long piece, so I was rushing a bit too.

Anyway - I am either going to sell it , or shelve it until I get my other projects done.
I'll try to get pics of the bottom as it is now, but it's hard to show.

I can post this pic I took when I was doing it a couple years ago, but for some reason my pics aren't showing, we'll see. It wasn't that tough to do, but of course, I didn't do it very well.

Re: 1973 23' Potter built CC

Aha! Thanks for the additional info.
Unfortunately, my work computer must have some sorta block that effects certain images. I run into that on CSC and FL Sportsman. Even worse, my computer skills are that I would have no clue how to unlock it. I do normally have pretty good luck with e-mailed pics. If you could either forward pics to andrew.johnson@americhaseservices.com or I'll try and view them tonight from the the little laddies laptop (computer) ;)

Re: 1973 23' Potter built CC

hey billybob,
how does that boat run, speed wise with a 225? And is that the original 20" transom?

Billybob 08-10-2007 03:27 PM

Re: 1973 23' Potter built CC

It runs around 40 mph, the highest I think I ever got was 43 mph alone in perfect conditions.
The transom is 25", which was stock, no?

It's a good looking boat ;)

Re: 1973 23' Potter built CC - Price reduced.

I'm lowering the price to $6500.00.
Should make someone a good project, I just don't have the time or space to work on it.

Yee Haw! I got a contract on the old house and it's boat buying time :D
Bill- I left you a message. We're a long way from one another so the marvel of digital photographs are gonna have to be my (and my fiberglass guy's) eyes. Give me a holler, please. Let's discuss where she's at, what needs to be done, what I may want to do and how she'd get to FL if we can work something out. Thank ya

I'm surprised nobody jumped on this.
Looks like I got me another project on my hands.

I need some advice, but I'll move over to the repair board.

Sorry, I must have missed your PM.
Yeah, it's still for sale.
A couple more weeks, I'll winterize and start thinking about a restoration.
Seems noone wants a project. :D
