Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
Merry Christmas to Me
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...r/IMG_2852.jpg A friend once told me "You don't find cats. Cats find you." I think the same applies to old boats. I really was not specifically looking for a 21 however it found me. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...r/IMG_2857.jpg Transom is solid, floors are good, front deck is in need of total redo. Stringers will be checked later. Original Gage Panel http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...r/IMG_2856.jpg Plans are to 1st remove the i/o and then go from there. Looks fast. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...r/IMG_2859.jpg There are more pictures posted to photo bucket. Take a look and let me know what you think. I am open to all and any ideas, except, this will not be turned into a center console, even though it would be awesom. 21 Classic |

Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
Beautiful! I'm very familiar with the area, just curious as to where she was. Maybe her 15' sisters close by ;). I'd love to take a look when you start stripping her down. P M me if you want...Richard

Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
Beautiful Boat!! It looks like it's in pretty good shape too!! Very clever open liner design, seating, and side pockets. Even an extra old airguide tach?

Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
I would have to disagree that they are classic lines, they are classic curves!! :)
Man, been living in NE too long .... all i saw was snow covering the road in the 1st pic?? :D ... duh ... Nice find!! - Nick |

I hope that I am that fortunate one day. |
Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
Very Nice Boat, I noticed your aluminum plate is the same as mine. I have hull number 221 of Model 27. I wonder if they numbered the hulls for each model or just gave a new number to every new hull no matter what size it was. My boat is a 1969 according to the title, what year is yours?
Thanks, Dan http://s233.photobucket.com/albums/e...t=DSCN0594.jpg |
Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
Dan, That 27 of yours is "INSANE!" WOW! What a machine.

Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
Maybe Carla can help us out.
However I think they gave out numbers for each hull length, and did not run them across the different lengths. My boat is registered as a 1970. However we believe it was built in 1966 or so. The explanation for this, is in the old days the boat was assigned a year when it was registered and not when built. The boat could of been sold used for a few years and then got registered. Back in the 60's a lot of states did not have mandatory registration. Your tug is quite the machine. Nice work. |

Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
Alot of the older Seacrafts here in Florida have Title issues. The State has incorrectly assigned Alot of the Seacrafts with the first 3 Characters of the HIN (known as an MIC) as FLZ, indicating a homebuilt in the records, but on the title it clearly says Seacraft. The NEW Seacraft MIC is SIC, it changes as ownership of the company changed. I beleive that when Florida consolidated/ merged/ updated/ entered the old seacrafts into the databases, there were issues. I see this same problem frequently. the First 3 letters of the HIN- Hull ID Number were mandatory for coastguard purposes- so they could ID a certain manufacturer. Also if a new owner didnt have or find the HIN they would just say it was Homemade when registering. It is very clear somethin is very wrong, how can the HIN state homebuilt while the title states Seacraft????? There are also dicrepancies with the years not "jiving" on title and what the state has in the database. From 1976 to 2002 it was SXC. Don't know what all of the ORIGINAL Moesly Potter MICs were. here is a link that will better explain.

Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
I don't know all the rules on registering a boat, but the info that I have is:
Our 21' is a 1962, hull Id #71 ... Manuf name is spelled out "Sea Craft" with Florida registration # FL 7162F. It has remained in Florida since 'birth'. The UNOHU, a 21' is a 1965, hull #167. My guess then is IslandTrader's 21, #136 was built between a 63 and 65. Our Bowriders are 1965 & 1966, hull #336 & 319 respectively, supporting registration is the year, not built. Also indicating numbers were assigned by length since kerneltugboat is a 1969, #221. Hope this helps. Cheers. |

When ever I go up north to visit my daughter I do a Craigs list search of the Great Lakes area. A lot of old neat boats can be found up there, most which are wood, and a no no for Florida. This time a 21 Seacraft showed up in Wisconsin. I saw, I called, I bought. :) I do not want to bracket the boat. I would like to keep the original "look" to her. However I was thinking of a Jack Plate that goes up and back. If that would work then I could keep the big transom and have the look and Outboard. If not then notch the transom and hang a motor. Thats a way off. I just need to get the I/O off and put it on ebay. |

[/QUOTE] This time a 21 Seacraft showed up in Wisconsin. If so you must have had to be watching your rear view mirrors for say, the first 800 miles. ;) Congrats on a real nice find... BTW: You did not by chance see any 15ft Scampi's on Craig's up there did you??? See ya, Ken |
Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
Hi Carla,
Do you think it is possible my Hull 221 could have been made in the middle sixties and just registered in 1969? Just curious if they started with number 1 or 100? I have no idea how many hulls were built in that time frame, but I find it hard to believe there were at least 221 Model 27's built in 1969. I guess I am wondering if my boat is a Potter built or Moesly built? Either way I can't go wrong !!!! Thanks, Dan |
Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
So, if i understand, each model probably started with 0 or 1??
|
Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
The 27' was first promoted in early 1967 (March), so yours could have been built anywhere from 67-69(probably late 68 or 69), registered in 69. The numbers continued from one year to the next...they did not start over each year. Sorry, I don't know what the starting number for the 27's.
"Did every model start at number 0 or 1?" No... the 21's started either at 1 or 50 (we have 71) and I believe the bowriders (next model produced) started at 300 and the highest number of a bowrider I've found, is a 1969 #629. The starting numbering scheme obviously changed for the 27's. As I learn more, I'll share the information. I think Island Trader found himself a fabulous boat and can't wait to see progress pictures! |

The reason being is that I found a guy that lives in Ocala that made a tow up to Chicago and was looking for a haul back home. So he shot me a price, that was less than it would of cost me to get it and tow back. So your 1600 beats my 1400. The hauler said the boat towed beautiful. The trailer looks worse than it is. No Scampi yet, however I was looking. |
Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
Nice find. I tell you, the Midwest is the best place to find unique seacrafts cheap. I saw that ad and thought it was probably a typo. I emailed him on 12/8 asking to send pics, no response.. He wanted $1K OBO. Did you get it for less?

Re: Hull \"136\" 21 Classic -Found
By the time you emailed him, it was already headed south.
