Not sure if anyone has noticed this yet, but it might prove helpful for some:

5.5 mpg at 3000 rpm and 22 mph. That's very good! :)

I'm surprised that the motor is so slow on the hull.

I was thinking the same thing, I'm told The suzuki 140 will push it 40. I would have thought the Optimax could do better then that.

Re: Merc Opti Performance Report - 20 Master Angle

My 150merc from 1981 will do 41.4 with a dinged aluminum prop and your 130 yamaha is even faster with 2 people, full tank, will do 42.? with the stock aluminum prop.

Those numbers are kind of embarrassing . . . considering how much hype there is around the power of these Optimax's.

Man . . . my seafari which is heavier w/ chunky bottom paint will do 47+ mph turning the same prop and that motor is a 29year old non-oiler, non-fingerported, vertical reed, 200 which is supposedly only 160 - 165hp (prop) from the factory.

The review said max speed was 42.1 MPH at 5400 rpm, At 3000 rpm speed was 22.4 mph and fuel GPH was 4.1 and 5.5 MPG. At max speed the fuel consumption 14.2 GPH and 3 MPG. Thanks for posting the link.

I like the lower end numbers, but none of the high end numbers are any better than what I get on my 20 with a 130 Yamaha 2S and no effective tabs (not yet, anyway!).

I think their new "Master Angler" comes standard with a t-top, so add a couple mph to get a speed with no top.

I'm seeing a lot more speed as well, but don't forget that you, Strick and I are all running a bracket, which may be worth about 3 mph in top end speed. From what I've read, being able to run the motor in "cleaner" water and the ability to raise the bow with the rearward weight shift and reduce wetted surface may explain most of the performance improvement with a bracket.

My optimum cruise went up 3 mph, 24 to 27 and my top end went up 4, 41 to 45, using the same motor and prop, going to a bracket.

My nephew had a 2003 w/ a 150 optimax and it would run 46.8 - 47 on a gps. Got excellent fuel economy!

Re: Merc Opti Performance Report - 20 Master Angle

I looked at a '01 SeaCraft 20' yesterday with an '02 Optimax 150 with a nosecone and low-water pickup, but no bracket. He has bottom paint, and claims a top speed of 46 mph on GPS at 5300 rpms, turning a 21" Mirage Plus, and 4.9 mpg at 27-28 mph according to his Smartcraft system.

I told him he needed an 18" or 19" pitch prop.
