Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
Correct me if I am wrong but the 80's 27 Seacraft outboard model, that I assume Gerard is asking about, is a much different animal than the 27 Moseley FlyBridge?

Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
Jason, I believe that Bushwacker is just tracing the bloodline on the 27 back to the Moesly Era. One of the 1st 80's 27's we saw here on CSC was the Raw Bar II. Where did that one end up??

Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
The one on Ebay is a Potter design. At least the cabin is a Potter design, it looks just like the 27 in the spec section.
Ebay link Spec section link There is another one for sale that looks like it's a Moesley design. Seamaster 27 |
Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
There was another one discussed on this site that was located in Texas. It had a 454 I/O and I believe listed for $12,000. I searched the site but can't find it.

Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
The new design came out when I was still selling them so that had to be late late 70's and was a complete new design. Went for a ride in Tampa Bay off Gandy and it was an outboard - the motors were getting big enough.

Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
Gerard,
You can see mine in the photo gallery on the front page of this site before the re-build began and the tear down. Then follow the link Trayder posted to the current progress. I am also upgrading to the Verado 300's for power, had 275's(never mounted). When she was running with the 225 Oceanrunners she would cruise about 30-32 and top out in the mid 40's, that was also with bottom paint and no bracket. |

Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
That is the point I was trying to make it is a totally different animal fundamentally sure it has the Variable Deadrise but I am 99.9% sure it is a different mold/design from the Mosely 27.

Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
Jason-
My bad. hmmmmm. I am just looking at the front VDH panels and where they start on the hull. The hulls look identical to me. Any Potter comments/marketing material??? |
Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
Jason,
Just to add more confusion, when my boat was at the Glass shop, a 1986 27 CC came in for service. The boats were side by side and the hulls seemed identical except for the way the rear transom was made, the new one was straight like the 23 and mine has the angled section for the outdrives like they did on a lot of boats in that time-frame. The interesting part is when I first got the boat, I e-mailed Bill Potter and he said it was made from a mold that they eventually sold to the Merrit brothers??? If I had to bet my life, all the 27's came from the same mold, or a copy of the original, and the changes were in the cap and transom. |
Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
FYI
A few years back, Potter told me that CSY only took the molds & the tooling for the 23' & 27" SeaCrafts and gave it a try for one year. That was circa '81-'82 time frame. I don't think they changed it :D |

Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
(kerneltugboat) Are you referring to the Merritt Bros. in Pompano, Fl? As in Merrit Marine Yatch Builders?

Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
All I remember is he said Merrit Brothers, and that they had built very nice but larger Fishing boats (I guess you could call it a yacht). I belive the e-mail went something like "If I remember correctly". those were Bills words, so maybe he did not remember correctly.I wish I could find the old e-mail, but I can't. By the way, I love your boat, I tried to design mine around my dads 23, but I wish I had seen yours first. I would love to know some key dimensions, like of the Step height and location, how the front hatches are laid out, the distance from the Transom to the center console or Steering wheel location, etc and just curious if you know the weight as it sits, etc. and the fuel capacity.
Thanks, Dan |
Re: seacraft 27 1978-1980s
Thanks, its been a fishing machine! I'll get you more exact measurements later but behind my leaning post sits a 200 Quart SSI Cooler and there is plenty of room behind it, where there is a giant below deck fish box and on the Port and Starboard side of it are two below deck livewells. Beam is 10' 4" rub rail to rub rail There are two 150 Gallon tanks one bow and other stern. AS far as the weight goes, I couldn't even give you an estimate, I just know everything on her is heavy, including the fiberglass hatche covers. Full of fuel and 55 gallons of freshwater the 225 Optis push her at 48 on GPS and empty at 51 mph. I will try and do some research and see what I can find on the 1986 27' Seacrafts.
