Anyone wanna chase yellowfin on the otherside?

Been dying to chase some fins! Getting tired of Bonies, Kings, and undersized Grouper. It`s done in Canaveral and Sebastian, so why not here. If someone has an open array radar to join in , that would be ideal.

Between the cost of gas, and the slim pickings, it has been a very slow yellowfin year. Most of the ones caught have been over by "the elbow". We tried, and tried, and finally gave it up.

I hear you on the gas John. I`ve been anchoring up a lot this year, but I can`t be contained anymore. My brother got a nice 110# bluefin on halfway hump last week on 30# spin while sight casting.

Nice day Peter! That`s what I`m dying for! How are the Herring schools this year? I really wanna hear good news on the last one. My brother said last 2 yrs were scary on the Herring front.

There were acres and acres of pilot whales out in the hudson. Very cool.

We are having one of the best Bluefin runs in 15+ years. We are seeing quite a few over 200 pounds. Also, the fish are all over the place (from south of Cape May up to the mudhole).

I am planning on taking the SeaCraft about 40 miles off shore very early on Saturday.

Any pics of the whales? Must have been beautiful. Are you seeing normal numbers of Herring?

The Sword longliners are trying to get back in the game here. A dead fishery b4 an `02 banning. We`re now seeing some slobs. Not me personally, yet.... Gottta try that too! 30 or so fresh Ballyhoo are in the brine for an early Wahoo trip on the full moon. Hit the 90 line and zig.
Catch em up Peter!

No pix of the pilot whales. We will get runs of herring, but nothing too serious this time of year (at least that i am aware of).

We do get tons of bunker.

Also, the bluefin seem to be gorging themsleves on nice size sand eels.

Went out on the other side (of the continent) in search of YFT and a 300lbs swordie we saw last week. Settled for some small dorado (dolphin for you easterners) Only fishing 9 miles off the beach. Not bad for these parts. Of course, the other day I got ripped by a 10 lb dorado in the bottom of San Diego Bay. Hey maybe global warming is a good thing :D

Dohrado in the bay Gillie? Sounds like they had a long night in T.J. and woke up there.

He was sure swimming around like it, a couple shots of tequila, think the ship channel is a canyon, follow the bait ball to breakfast... Great fish. Live fast, die young, reproduce early and often and grow like a weed, tastes great and freezes ok... could be the most complete sport fish of all. Acrobatic and pretty, and charges anything that moves. I'd rather pull on tuna and yellowtail (our western jack) but I never complain when the dodos arrive. Good luck on your wahoo!!! hunt.

Mmmmm. Love me some Hamachi!
When I moved to West Palm , a friend had a ski boat. I bought some Bally and we tore up the schoolies and got a nice older couple on an August morning in 28 ft of water. I thought I was a genius and life would be easy. Here I am after 5 hrs. of riggin {Yeah I`m still slow} and I`m hoping to get just 1 nice Hoo.
Dohrados may very well be the perfect gamefish. They grow faster than we can deplete them. Elephants also love peanuts, but now that we have a 20" fork limit you can`t use the peanuts for bait anymore.

Re: Anyone wanna chase yellowfin on the otherside?

Hey Tarpun,
Just back in. HOT. Dragged an Islander /horse bally combo 30 ft. behind of a 2#cigar weight on the 50, a Braid Marauder, a Yozuri bonita, and a split beak naked Bally on a planer. Spent the whole morning clearing weeds working in 90ft and wondering what I was doing wrong. All were red/purple and black, except for the big blue and white teaser just behind the wash. Had 1 huge hit on the Bonita but missed the hooks. Cracked it right in half!
