New Home for 21'
After many years of planning, we have finally moved to Key Largo...and it's great!
After Ft. Desoto's gathering, we went by our N. Palm house to pick up the last item ... our 1962 21' Classic SeaCraft. Being fully loaded with all restoration materials and various other things from the garage (probably more weight than if it was fully restored & with motors), in combination with bad calibers, the little Grand Cherokee Jeep could not pull it without burning up the brakes ... So Denny (Bushwacker) to the rescue! He met us with his truck & we caravan to the keys and brought the 21' to her new home. Here's a picture of Denny's truck & the 21 ... truck needs to grow up a bit ... http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...r/P1010024.jpg Here's a new thought for the 21 ... A Seafari top ... (Compliments of Jarrett of Palm Beach after he cut the top off his to make a CC) http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...r/P1010044.jpg This is our view at 6:30 this morning ... a beautiful sunrise over the ocean. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...unrise-002.jpg Life is great. Re: New Home for 21'
Carla and Skip,
I'm soooo envious of you!! I lived down there when I was a kid, and those pics sure take me back to my childhood. Enjoy it!! BTW, Denny, you are the man! Lloyd |
Re: New Home for 21'
the 21 with the seafari top looks sharp. The lines are about perfect, somehow it also seem to "update" the boat and compliment it at the same time, whoa, I sound like a salesman, I'll stop there.
Congrats on the move to the keys! I will be driving by in 4 weeks, can't wait I love it down there. |
Re: New Home for 21'
Carla...that 21' is going to look great!!! And another congrats on your move..sure looks peaceful. What a way to start your mornings. Carla when you get a chance send me your email and Denny's as well (I accidently deleted all of my folders on my email account). Wanted to send you some pics of baby!Have fun down there and don't work too hard ;)

Re: New Home for 21'
Wow Carla, What an eventful trip home . Nothing like knowing you can't stop and also the fact that that grinding sound in the brakes means $$. Of course Denny rides in to save the day.............."Ram Tough"
That deck addition does amazing things to the lines of that Original Classic. It doesn't look out of place, even with the different lines(as you were thinking @ Ft. Desoto). The Keys sunrise photo is much appreciated! Gotta get down there............ :D |
Re: New Home for 21'
I had to do a double take when I saw that second picture. A Seafar on steroids? That's got merit, indeed.
I'm a bit of a preservationist at heart but a firm believer in "adaptation by natural selection." Had Charles Darwin seen this picture, I think he would have pondered for a moment, stroked his beard, rocked back a Guinness checked his notes, and succinctly said, "Brilliant!" Congratulations on getting her home again. |
Re: New Home for 21'
oooooh I like that 21' Seafari!

Re: New Home for 21'
Tough ride ... until ... Denny came. Couldn't ask for a better friend. Thanks Denny!
The Seafari concept is interesting. Dilemma of "originality" vs "update for comfort". :D Trayder, if you're coming to the keys, send me a PM if you have time to stop by for a visit! Fred, congrats on your new baby! My email Bowrider@MoeslySeaCraft.com Thanks for all the words of encouragement. Tomorrow the sunrise will be there again. :-) |
Re: New Home for 21'
Carla & Skip... that is a great looking place and the idea with the 21...WOW! That is going to look so nice. Congrats on geting the move done.

Re: New Home for 21'
I have so much respect for Carl, Skip and Carla, the 21 design, and Carl's amazing accomplishments with it, that it's a PRIVILEGE to be able to do anything I can to help restore that rare old girl to her former glory! It'll be the ultimate Bahama-cruising machine when finished! Just glad I was able to help!
Thankfully the ol' Dodge didn't miss a beat. The little 318 actually didn't even work that hard . . . could hold a steady 50 in OVERDRIVE at about 9-10" vacuum (Max continuous power is about 5", where you start burning exhaust valves on most engines), with the engine and tranny running a cool 195 degrees, averaging almost 13 mpg. Didn't seem to tow much harder than my Seafari . . . until I tried to stop, that is! Rush hour traffic in Ft. Lauderdale was a bear! Fortunately we were able to take back roads most of the way. We put all the camping gear from the Jeep in my truck, and Skip put a lot of lumber from the boat in his Jeep, so that helped a lot. Here's some more photos that show what a unique boat this is. This is the view out the back window of what followed me all the way to the Keys . . the worlds BIGGEST 21 footer! http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...ackWndvw-1.jpg This is why Carla thought I needed a bigger truck! http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...2021/TopVw.jpg Here's another side view where we raised the aft end of cap to make the cabin windows parallel to existing deck, probably a little more representative of the final look. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...sedcabin-1.jpg http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...i21fwddeck.jpg You Seafari guys who have made that trip around the side to front deck will appreciate this view! http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...21Sidedeck.jpg This boat could qualify as a Walkaround model! http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...Fwddkclsup.jpg |

Re: New Home for 21'
Great perspectives Denny, got me all McGiddycuddy on this one. Appearance changes a Seafari from a friendly gecko to a bad, mad falcon ready to tear into something. The reverse shear melded into the Seafari cuddy is boat porn on the Pininfarina level. WOW!, that is cool. Could've been the biggest splash at the Ft Lauderdale Boat Show. As I mentioned to Carla, I'd love to hear Mr Moesly's thoughts on this adaptation... P.S. Thanks for the connection on the cleats. Greatly appreciated.

Re: New Home for 21'
Skip and Carla,
What a beautiful way to start the day, I might have to start drinking coffee! That Seafari really brings out the Curtiss p 40 in the old girl. A Flying Tiger paint scheme? Thanks for the caravan! Kept the little Sonoma in 3rd the whole way. Good news, I think Janet wants to come to Long Point. GFS |
Re: New Home for 21'
Congrats on the move, and that Seafari top looks just right on that boat. My cousin has lived in Marathon for 8+ years and I'm often envious. This past spring he moved from a canal house to a house directly on the Atlantic. We take 1 trip down each year and absolutely love it.
P.S. That's a sharp looking Vette you have. I like the color combo. |
Re: New Home for 21'
Carla, I can only dream
Lisa and I had a very memorable evening dinner in Key largo a coupe years ago when we went fishing in Key west with Joey. Congrats on the move. Strick |
Re: New Home for 21'
Hi Carla,
Key Largo looks spectacular in the morning. I'm from Canada so the only thing I know about Key Largo is from a Beach Boys song. No actually I drove through about 15 years ago on the way to the southernmost point...I only remember sunsets though.lol Thank you for posting that pic. Now I know what a Key Largo sunrise looks like. I will be looking forward to seeing the updated pic one day with the 21' seafari walk around nestled in with those cruisers at the dock. Regards, Brandon |
Re: New Home for 21'
I spoke with my Dad yesterday, letting him know about our acquisition of the Seafari top and leading him to this thread for pictures of it positioned on the 21. He is pondering the thought.
BEFORE SEEING THE PICTURES, his comment was it would need some structural engineering to ensure the cabin was secure to the hull, since we did not get any part of the forward deck or cap, no 2" flange for tying the two pieces together. He has known of sailboats, that once the gunwale went under water on a heel, the cabin was sheered off! Now I'm waiting his comments AFTER seeing the pictures. Skip & I have been coming to the keys frequently and would regret it each time we'd have to leave. Now we're down here for good and loving it! |
Re: New Home for 21'
Congratulations on the move Carla. Also that is one sweet looking Corvette, what year is it?

Re: New Home for 21'
Hi Steve,
The vette is a 1975, purchased new, has 78k miles on her. When the rubber bumpers rotted & fell off, Skip replaced with 1980 style fiberglass ones & faired them into the body. I guess we like "classic" things. Next time you go to the Bahamas, head south a little so you can come by for a visit! http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...SideFront2.jpg |
Re: New Home for 21'
Thanks, I would love to stop by; I've never been to the Keys. I had a 75 vette at one time, my dad had given it to me and it was a basket case. I finally gave up on it and sold it for a little of nothing.
