2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
Ok, from the 1st poll it is 50/50 for the Bahamas vs. Long Point or the Keys. To get all 15-20 members who plan on coming, we need to pin this thing down. So, lets split the 3 choices and vote again. Add comments by posting below the poll...........

Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
It looks like Long Point's location, ability to have the gathering over a long weekend, and cost are pulling in the most votes. Any thoughts????
|
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
My vote is for the Bahamas, only for the fact that I will already be there, yet if the long point gathering is not the same as my planned trip I might come to that one also.

Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
FYI:
To enter Bahamaian waters a passport is a requirement with homeland stupidity in effect. Looks like the majority is for Long Point... I will check with them to see what is open for April 09 I quess it does not matter where here is as long as we are here.... :) See ya, Ken |
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
I will vote for the Bahamas also. The gathering would be a bit more memorable and for those who like to fish this trip would be great.
Long Point is a bit closer to home for me and much cheaper, but it will not compare to seeing all the Seacrafts clearing customs in the islands. |
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
Rainmaker and Caymanboy-
The Bahamas is the ultimate destination which requires the extra resources to make it happen. The Bahamas trip is a once every few years idea or an every year or two trip by the South East Florida SC group. I agree about the Bahamas being the most memorable. It needs to be longer than 4 days(most chose a 4 day weekend on the last poll) to attract a group outside of SouthEast Florida, probably about 10-14 days(even SE FL guys will want longer than 4 days). I am dying to get there, and know many who have put the work into their boats who plan to go ASAP. A SMALLER GROUP SHOULD GO NOW IN 2009 and also come to Long Point where there will be about 30-40 people. I just got off the phone with Long Point and the weekend of April 24th 2009 looks like a good date for them. Any comments? |
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
Danny, as you may have already guessed, I`m making the crossing this summer. Anybody else? Long point is just a big bonus!

Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
I agree with gofast, long point is a bonus, my goal is to be done with the little girl by the first week of april, that should happen, aneyhoo, I still plan on being in the Abaco's late July, don't know anything about long point, so if someone could fill me in. Long point in April, land o conch in July, sounds like a plan, now if it just comes together????

Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
The Ragged Edge Resort which is right on the Atlantic with an excellent
private ramp and protected harbor up front.... I called Mike at the resort to see what is available in April or May. He does not normally take reservations this far in advance but he is willing to work with us on a group rate with a 4 night minimum. The resort only holds 65 people. He has regulars that come every year and said he would be able to handle 40 of us..... I have stayed there over the last 10 years and needless to say is just perfect. BTW: Located at MM 86.5 in Islamorada behind where the giant Lobster used to be... Snake Creek and Hens & Chickens is right there. Good fishing diving etc.. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...cture419-1.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...Picture088.jpg See ya, Ken |
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
To me it's the Keys. The Ragged Edge is nice, been there once many years ago, however the pictures tell the story going down in April. You are at the mercy of the wind.

Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
We have a winner.........Tropical paradise in the US! The masses have spoken, the Keys will be the location of our next big gathering.
|
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
OK......
Lets narrow down some dates and get ready for a Keys gathering... What we are going to need is a rough count if we are going to the Ragged Edge.. I'am sure there will be a few that want to spend the week. Time to chime up now.. See ya, Ken |
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
Wait. What dates are we talking about?
|
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
The end of April (more wind) or 1st week of June(less wind & no school). We need options on location and price for where to stay.
|
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
I'm in!! Key's sound great!!
|
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
Mmmmm Bugs, Dodo`s, n Key Deer on the grill. Big Dodos in April. Not so much in June.

Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
I'm good on any date you come up with!!! I have a place down there so don't count me as staying at the Ragged Edge. I will make my vacation arrangements to when is best for everyone else. Sometime around a new moon will make for a very nice dolphin fish fry. :-)

Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
It seems that April will appeal more to those without family/school committments. Also more likely a 2/3 night gig. June would appeal to those looking to bring family and spend 3+ nights.
One option that may be god for everyone is to travel during spring break which I believe is March 16-22 or during Easter which is April 12. Breezy Palms charges $99 per night for their basic room, $119 for an efficiency and an extra $20.00 for a boat slip. They are ocean front, clean and have a great pavillion for gathering with a massive stone grill/fireplace. Here is a link to the resort. http://www.breezypalms.com/ |
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
I think April is our month. My kids are out for Spring Break Sat. April 4th thru Sun the 12th(Easter). Anyone else like those dates??
|
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
Sounds great, not too hot yet.
|
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
I think April may still kind of windy. I will check, the keys are not so fun @ 15 to 20 even the water is ugly. I know May starts laying down and I'm sure June is sweet. Long drive and expensive to get blown out.
Keep in mind 3 days in the Keys is 5 - a day each way so you almost need 7 |
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
Dixon-I agree about needing a week, because of 2 days of down there and back travel time. June has less wind.
|
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
we are good except for the weekend of apr.11
|
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
Dixon is right about the wind. A constant 15-20 mph wind will blow up 6-8' on the outer reef off Islamorada through Long Key because it's 8 miles offshore.
I briefly lived in Layton (Long Key) back in the mid 70's, and remember the frustration of springtime high winds and big seas when I wanted to fish for big grouper or billfish over the deep reef (200' - 300'+) reef south of Tavernier. And I had a 25' Mako with twin 105's back then. But the problem with June is you can't take any bugs while diving, and late May is the start of the no-see-um feeding frenzy which lasts through early October :( Just got back from 9 days at Bahia Honda, just west of Marathon. (We go every year for Thanksgiving) Weather was the best in 10 years. 8-10 mph wind every day, highs in the mid 70's, lows in the low 60's. Limited out on snapper twice. Hooked and played a while with the biggest lemon shark I have ever seen before finally cutting him off. She towed my little 12' aluminum utility v-hull pretty fast :D She seemed to be bigger than my boat when she followed my bait to the boat, but I guess she was really 9'-10'. I had never before seen one over about 7'. I vote for the Keys, but timing is an issue for us. |
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
We booked the week of May 23 at this place in WPB, so will see how the dates you guys come up with work, maybe come straight down even. I want to do some trolling and WP in May is pretty good and short run out, I also want to take Susan house site seeing and bar hopping. At least you get a water view :D

Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
Dixon - here's another place that's not near as fancy but probably a little cheaper and is in a nice area. Camelot Motor Lodge The North Palm Beach Marina is right behind it and NPB Country Club is right across the street. Give me a call when you get here; I'm sure we can scare up a few other SeaCrafters too! Denny

Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
Could be , could be.
Hope it doesn`t blow again this weekend. Denny have you ever rebuilt a tilt and trim system? Dixon shoot me a pm. GFS |
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
My vote is for any where in the upper or middle Keys.
10 Top Reasons to Go to the Keys. 1. Lots of places we could go and splash our boats. 2. Lots of Motel to stay in with AC, a clean bed, and shower and a DOCK. 3. Lots of places to get some good food at the end of the day. 4. Lots of places to skin dive for those that want to. 5. Lots of places to FISH -some guys like fishing skinny water, some like it on or just off the reef, some guys want to run for dolphin, plus and there are good deep drops spots, tarpon fishing at night, snapper fishing at night, and sword fishing to boot. 6. No Bahamas fee, no pass port, and no checking in when you get back to the states, no problems if you need a tow back to the Motel, and if you have insurance you will be covered in the USA or you will have to buy coverage which includes the Bahamas. 7. If something breaks you can get a new one right away. 8. Gas is half the price. 9. If you get sick there are Dr. to go to. 10. and the # 10 reason is “The Florida Keys Drink More Beer Per Person Then Anywhere In The USA.” Think about it. FellowShip Just for the Grins :D :D :D :D |
Re: 2009 CSC Gathering Final Location Poll
I'll be in Islamorada for the next 4 days. (business) I can check out Breezy palms group rates for June. If there is anywhere else people want me to check or take some pix just let me know. Brian
