Keys Own the Poll Position 4/3/2009 Gathering Poll

Since Brian spent all his business trip time at the Tiki Bar and Woody's and not offering a complete recon with pictures of what to expect for our CSC 2009 Gathering in Tropical Paradise.........and this next Gathering date and location has become as clear as mud.......65Bowrider and I have put together a solid balance in April between the weekend of Fri. the 3rd and extend out into the next week for those wanting more than 3-4 days(4/3-4/10). The location has been thrown around a bunch, but based on needing a place for campers and resort folks, the best option appears to be the generous camping offer for only 6-8 @ 65Bowriders and Lodging accomodations for others a few doors down from their location @ either Snappers or Dove Creek. This allows a central gathering location at 65Bowrider's property. Here are the questions and please post comments and/or responses for who will make a decision on certain questions:

Re: Keys Own the Poll Position 4/3/2009 Gathering Poll

Ken, we have a very "natural" setting for the keys ... The island is built on coral rock, so air mattress recommended.

Showers can be taken in the open air, cool refreshing water unit downstairs under a starlit sky or upstairs in full and private accommodations.

Power can be supplied by Fla Keys Elec Co-op via extension cords. But you don't need to bring your TV, microwave, stereo and heaters.

Under the house is adorned with a concrete slab, 10' ceilings, water, electric, 2 tables, some chairs, 1 charcoal BBQ grill, 1 Gas BBQ grill ... all the comforts of home.

If I'm doing my math correctly......4' x 4' = 16 sq ft. or 2' x 8' = 16 sq ft, which ever way you figure it, it's rather tight quarters. I'm thinking a discount or a "Beano" requirement is in order. :-)

We will get the web addresses up on CSC for people to book their rooms. All dates are firm at this point, and we are making final arrangements with Snapper's and Dove Creek. So, once we post the phone #'s, please book your rooms ASAP and post that your reservation was made, what accomodations(campers can post now), and for how long.......

Ok, the $100 Snapper's deal requires that the 4 people book together now. 65bowrider is waiting to let them know that we will take the 4 spots to lock it in. So, post here that your ready with Credit card and once there are 4 people, we will let them know that we will be calling immediately.

Was wondering Capt. Chuck if you might have an extra 1978 "Potter Built" license plate available for my truck?? Mine's three or four years old and getting a bit worn.

Weekend of April 3rd ...
The 4 rooms at Snappers are being "held" for CSC members.
Call Mike (Gen Mgr) 305-852-5956 to reserve your room, $100/night includes sales & lodging taxes, and dockage.
Even if you're not planning to bring your boat, say "yes" for dockage, I'm sure someone could use it.

Hope to receive a call from Dove Creek Lodge as to their "best price" and will post at that time.

Anyone wishing to camp in our yard is welcomed and extended stays past the weekend are welcomed too.
Looking forward to our gathering on April 3rd!

Re: Keys Own the Poll Position 4/3/2009 Gathering Poll

Great Carla, thank you. Ok, so Capt. Chuck and NoBones are locked in down there. For Snappers.....2 rooms and dockage down, 2 more to go......until Dove Creek is the next closest option(65Bowrider is currently negotiating the best price). I will be camping at the 65Bowrider/Skippertee campground from Fri to Tue at this point. There are only a few spots there as well......so, people need to chime in if you want a spot there with only a handful available.

Glad to see so many people staying a week, should be fun. We are camping at Carla's since it can't be harder than an island so we're good with that and have all the gear. Danny, Susan said she could camp next you for a week no problem, tell Raccoon Boy to hit the weights, thats Tarpon season. :D

I also want to add that MIA is maybe an hour and they have shuttles to the keys that are very reasonable, would be an easy flight and shuttle to join us from the Frozen Tundrea of NJ and Mass, just say'in.

As mentioned, Snappers has 4 rooms, $100/night, includes all taxes & dockage. 2 rooms already reserved, only 2 left. Call Mike at (305) 852-5956.
Dove Creek has 4 rooms of the least expensive variety. Special price of $149 (includes dock) plus taxes = $168.28/night ... or if book 4 nights, get 4th free, averaging about $126/night including dock & taxes. Call Margie at (305) 852-6200.

MENTION CLASSIC SEACRAFT GATHERING FOR THE SPECIAL RATES.

Bowrider's Campground ... free ... have reservations for Bushwacker, Snookerd, GFS, ESD. Boat Dockage & trailer parking available with reservation...probably room for 8 boats.

It is paradise in the keys and you don't want to miss out on this gathering!

Maybe NoBones can do another raffle for prizes & for biggest fish caught ... making sure we have a great fish BBQ for Saturday night!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Re: Keys Own the Poll Position 4/3/2009 Gathering

I'll be there for sure. I just don't know where I'll be staying. I'm partial to Islamorada because of it's proximity to the "hump" How long would the boat ride be if I stayed at one of the above mentioned hotels in Key Largo? Camping is not an option if I want to stay married. (hummmm?)

Ryank 12-30-2008 09:16 AM

Re: Keys Own the Poll Position 4/3/2009 Gathering

Briguy, add about 13-15 miles to your boat ride to get to the humps. I am with you about being partial to Islamorada I have grouper spots 3/4 mile from shore, and awesome grey and yellow tail spots 5 miles from shore. I usually stay at the drop anchor. Let me know and we could commute down to Key largo to hang with everyone each night :D UNLESS someone is willing to show us some awesome fishing spots in the Key Largo vicinity :D

hot?? with the wind we'll be lucky to get past the reef, I think the hot won't be an issue in April

Re: Keys Own the Poll Position 4/3/2009 Gathering

Drop Anchor is a half mile North of Holiday Isle's very close to snake creek but directly on the Atlantic, it is next to one of the best flats in the keys for bonefish and redfish, and tarpon. It is also a staight shot to the humps and close to the Eagle, Hens and chickens, Alligator reef etc.The resort is very relaxed and laid back, prices are good and yes I am bringing my 23 savage.

Just got back in town, got the message, and spot reserved at our 'campground'.

We've got a few spaces left and I believe Snappers has 2 rooms available, but he won't 'hold' them forever, so if you're 'thinking' about Snappers, call Mike soon.

A great time is coming in April & I look forward to meeting & seeing everyone. Happy New Year everyone!
