New2Me 197_ SC20SF
Need help identifying model year. Documentation says seacraft 1979, but hull id was missing so Alabama Marine Police assigned it a #. From seeing other 20's in the gallery i assume its ranging from 1969-1970. Thanks in advance........great site by the way!! Just purchased the boat yesterday and have been up all night just browsing through the forum section!! :D

Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
197_SC20SF,
HI...Looks like a 69-70 with those rod lockers being set back. Mine also has the same SeaCraft plate @ the bow. The only difference I was able to note between the 1969 and the 1970 was teak hatches vs fiberglass hatches. On my 1970 the hatch covers were all fiberglass and had the factory non skid pattern. On the '69 I beleive they were teak. You have a Moesly/Potter built is its a 1970. |
Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
does it have a fuel tank below the deck? If it does that would rule out 1969, not sure what year they were put below deck but my 69 was above.

Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
Thanks guys for your replies....the boat came with no hatch covers...the deck does have a factory "patterned" non skid; don't know if this would determine 69 vs. 70. As for the fuel tank....the boat also came without a fuel tank. Basically i bought it from a guy who was going to restore it, and he bought it from a guy who was going to restore it....so it's missing some items that might have been removed in the past. Once again thanks for the replies...at least i now know that its definitely not a 1979 model as the new paperwork states.

Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
Welcome to CSC and good luck with your restore.
I have seen too many changes. Can't remember the years they changed or carried over :D For sure it's a SeaCraft !! |
Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
Thanks Capt. Chuck.........i am now a bit more confused as to what exact model year it is, but as you say i know for sure it's a SeaCraft.
If it helps any the cutout on the stern deck seems to be right on an area that was not on the non-skid......baitwell perhaps?? I've added a photo of this....once again thanks for the help! http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/r...F/DSC02619.jpg |
Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
i dont know much but last pic makes me wanna think it was an i/o turned to an o/b. then again what do i know lol
|
Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
I did think of that possibility, but looking at the layouts on the literature section, scratched that out due to the cutout not being to intrusive into the helm area.

Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
im going to throw this out there my 73 has rear vents and the step up deck with 2 boxes in it. but my open gunnels up front are farther forward than the ones on reels boat.
|
Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
My 1970 has no vents, 2 hatches forward and the scuppers drain down and then out the Transom. The 71 and on scuppers drain thru the floor. The 1969 scuppers drained thru the transom but slightly different than the 1970 setup (see stricks boat...his is a good example of the 1969). Stringers also changed from 4 to 2 in 74(ish). Also in 74 an in floor livewell and underdeck tank were standard(?). Non skid pattern changed in 74 ish too. Your non skid pattern is the same as mine. Confused Yet? :D

Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
if you can determine the stringer layout that would help. My 69 and I think some 70's had 4 thin stringers where as later years had 2 huge stringers.
|
Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
I used to have a '70 CC. 2 teak hatches forward, raised forward deck, no vents, no rail, same emblem on the coaming, scuppers down through the deck/hull, 4 stringers, no rear live-well/fish box, transom cutout for twin OBs, and about a 45 gallon fuel tank below the deck.
That oughta confuse the issue. |
Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
Welllll if i thought i was confused before...now i'm really confused as to what model year i have, but i have some givens that might point me in the right direction.
I will take Trayder's advice and check the stringer layout. Also i think i can narrow it down to the 69-70's range if those model years had their rod storage more towards midships than others. My confusion might also be options that were added to it that might make deciphering the correct model year a bit harder. But thanks for all your help......i'll be posting regularly to show you all what im doing!! |

Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
When you say "big" stringers, what exactly do you mean? The reason i ask is if you notice the last picture i posted showing the interior of the transom you will notice that the deck basically sits on two massive "stringers" that go all the way fwd. I thought this might have been the previous owners redo attempt. I will have to investigate a bit more though.

Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
ill get you some pics of mine tomorrow from inside the rear hatches.
|
Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
Ima believing it is circa 1970, I have the exact same boat, my fuel tank is mounted above deck, under the console, I have the same hatchs in the bow, same rod lockers, same everything, the aft portion was the engine well, which your guy cut out, I have before and after pictures of mine if you wish to look, let me know. After I'm done with my refit I was going to post the whole job.

Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
Mine had foam floated back there between the stringer and the outboard hullside.

Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
Was looking through past post on THT and found a Seacraft post....one of the pictures was of a 1969 I/O 20 with the engine box visible.......it seems to be located pretty close to where the cutout on my boat is.........so i'm pretty positive mine was an I/O in one time of it's life. Buying a classic boat that you have always admired is like being a kid in a candy store......so excuse me if i seem a bit overexcited........but then again thats what this forum is all about!!!
BTW didn't know if i could post the pic.....so heres the link: http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/t...rt=41&posts=59 |

Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
Not so sure about the I/O theory...transom glass looks original?? no evidence of a hole for the I/O in the skin?? Notched transom?? The cut out portion looks to match the two transom seat/hatches and in-deck livewell that I have in my 73. Only difference I see from mine is that I have the hullside vents.

Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
Transom was replaced by the previous owner....it's actually a pretty decent job too. As for the I/O theory....i truely think it was one in some part of its life. Looking at I/O models and the peculiar cap transition at the transom lead me to believe this is true. But i still don't know what year it might be from......stringers are or were refitted to be one big mega stringer leading from about 12" Off of the CenterLine all the way out....they are glassed also....not just foam capped. Hopefully this weekend i will bring out the reciprocating saw, cut to make a decent coaming and remove the deck. Thanks for your input!!

Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
I guess i'll find out this weekend when i do "surgery" on it.
|
Re: New2Me 197_ SC20SF
Well Okay Guys! Did surgery on the boat and found out it has 4 stringers......about 4 inches in width. As for the question of whether or not it was an I/O....it was an indeed and inboard/outboard at one point in its life! Will start posting pictures and the whole process.....of design/construction & destruction....so keep in touch...your comments will be welcome!!
