Keys Gathering: Food & things to bring

Less than 2 weeks away ... it has been suggested we do a little planning on the food so there's not too much duplication.

Between DonV and I, we are supplying the plates, paper towels, cups, utensils, BBQ grills & charcoal, elec skillet, deep fryer, smoker, coffee stuff, breakfast foods & some ice chests. ESD bringing firepit.

Firday night pot-luck dinner ... bring your own main BBQ item plus a side to share.
Suggestions: BBQ beans, green salad, pasta salad, fruit or fruit salad, desserts, chips & dip, sodas/mixers, vegetables, potato or rice dish.
We always have too much food, so please don't make huge dishes.
Please post what you'd like to bring so everyone knows.

Also, could someone bring a little firewood for the firepit?
Anyone have an extra coffee pot? (I have one)
Please bring your own folding chair and beverages.
If camping, you'll be much more comfortable on an air bed as the ground is hard, tent, and a towel for your shower.
If you're docking your boat, please bring FENDERS!

What about a small raffle??? Anyone have something they'd like to donate? I'm open to ideas & suggestions ...

That's all I can think of for now ...

Re: Keys Gathering: Food & things to bring

i meant to ask if anyone has some fenders i can use.. i dont own any.

you reminded me... if its ok i will bring a bunch of homemade cookies as well. you cant have too many of those things!!

Re: Keys Gathering: Food & things to bring

Thanks for the wood & percolator. We added "fill" to the lot to raise it another foot... so it's definitely hard.
It's been very windy, good tie-downs for the tents may be needed. We'll have handy a hammer & short rebar to pound in some holes for the stakes...did I mention the ground was hard?

Just a few nice logs.

Hell ya, I have a grill that will go over the fire pit to cook on which I plan on using, that orange wood is supposed to be good - the wood I'm bringing is split oak, from all places behind the liquer store-go figure, but it looks nice and I'm a good customer so they said take all I want for 20.

if he doesn't have to spend 8x2 on fenders there's 2 boxes of chum- I'd rather have 2 boxes of chum personally

God I hope the wind lays down or we're in Snake Creek fishing for 12" snapper as visions of Wahoo and Sails dance in my head - now

I figure we can split those 6 up pretty easy between 3 boats - guys, don't load up on a bunch of stuff at home, its all avaiable and ballyoo are easy to catch or buy - plus this wind does not seem to want to stop - Now on the other hand, another front comes in Sunday and maybe just maybe we get a break 3 or 4 days later.

My point was we shouldn't have trouble using cases - wrong thread for this though - use the fishing tips from now on before Carla yells at us :D

Ok, I know you guys are not Martha Stewart ... but you'll go hungry on Baked Beans & cookies! If you're not the chef in your family, then ask your "better half" what she'd like to fix and post it here.

Let's get some good food coming in ... besides, happy tummies make happy fisherman which bring in more fish!
(Did I really say that?!)

Re: Keys Gathering: Food & things to bring

WE are bringing the fixings for Tuna - Sushami and Sesame seared - I know there's some serious confidence. I will have Susan pop in tomorrow as to what we are bringing. Yellow Tail and or Mangroves are pretty easy so we should have some fish. The weather as I thought after this last front seems be laying down - Teusday is ONLY 10-15 which is pretty doable but may get better towards the weekend.

Tuesday And Wednesday
East to southeast winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas beyond the reef 2 to 4 feet. Seas inside the reef around 1 foot. Nearshore waters a light to moderate chop. Isolated showers.

Re: Keys Gathering: Food & things to bring

are we going to be wanting to cook breakfast on saturday and sunday or does the group want to get an early start on fishing?? lunch i figured would just be had on the boat.. another question... if friday is going to be the pot luck bbq ill probably bring a few steaks from bj's. saturday i was going to go simple with burgers or hotdogs as a backup incase the weather doesnt lay down. of course there will be beers too.

DonV 03-28-2009 12:22 PM

Re: Keys Gathering: Food & things to bring

WE HAVE WASABI and soy sauce with real japanese letters on it plus the sesame seeds - also if I mention Wasabi one more time before next weekend I get smacked :D

Frankly I'm bringing breakfast stuff but maybe staying a day or so longer Sat AM I'm going Little Debbie blueberry mini muffens

The Martha Stewart of Yachting and Camping has informed me that she is bringing salad stuff and cole slaw

So if Brian doesn't catch a Tuna I guess its beans- slaw and cookies - can you put Wasabi on cookies ???

Re: Keys Gathering: Food & things to bring

I AM the chef in our humble abode ,although I haven`t done it professionally for years now. That`s why I`m so happy all the time now! I`ll throw out some choices for the clan. I can marinate shrimpos easily for grillin. For a side I can make potato gratin w/ fresh basil, applewood smoked bacon, and smoked gouda or grilled marinated veggie terrine. I could make the terrine at Casa Skip and Carla on Friday. Very labor intensive, but well worth learning! Believe me on this.... I`ll hit the oriental market tomorrow for rice wine vinegar , Nori, Mirin, and jasmine rice for the sushi. I`ll get some more mats and we can have a shushi rolling party. Carla do you have a mandolin? The kitchen kind , not the musical instrument. My big knives are able to shave now , after spending some time on the soft and hard Arkansas stones.
Cheers,
Sandy

Sandy, I like you style! Did you go to Haaarrrrrvaaarrrrd perhaps? Anyhow I have a sushi rolling kit and I will bring.

No I started washing dishes at the age of twelve and had worked all over the line by fifteen and finally ended up at Le Cordon Bleu. Haaavaaaaarrrd would have been a better choice in hindsight. Gramps was invited to attend at the tender age of fifteen, so I am a legacy.
Great news from across the pond! Nephew Alexander has been invited to study chemistry at Oxford. Seems like yesterday when at the age of two he walked in on me having a wee and said, Uncle Sandy you have a willie too dont you. But your willie has a beard doesn`t it.
