Progress is being made on the \"Half Cocked\" 23' CC
Well, this one has been a work in progress for a while now. I don't have many in progress pics as I had gotten really tired of the redo. Once progress started to pick up, I began getting excited again. Hopefully I motors will be hung in the next couple of weeks. Below are some before and a few as it sits today.

That's lookin really good!! Please tell more on the leaning post and how it's to be plumbed!!
|
Re: Progress is being made on the \"Half Cocked\" 23' CC
Outstanding Brian!! Keep those pics coming

Re: Progress is being made on the \"Half Cocked\" 23' CC
Thanks. The leaning post is a command center, made by Mckee custom boats. It has not been installed yet so I can't answer the plumbing question yet. Ask me again in a couple of weeks and I might have it installed. Like most on here have said, everything takes twice as long as you expect.

Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
Here are some updates. Settled on the name "Hail Yeah". I forgot to get pics of the trim tabs, but you can see one in the second picture. They work great. Very responsive. Should have more performance info soon.

That thing looks f$#@%^$ awesome! cant wait to see performance numbers and some bloody decks!

Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
Thanks all. I have made a little more progress, just slow going now that the boat is fishable. I would rather be on the water than working on the thing. They have installed the live bait tank and it works great. Keeps lots of bait alive all day. Still to do is: install rub rail, put down non-skid, shoot the interior, put on the curtains, and install the remaining deck hardware. I will get some pics and performance info once she is complete.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...7/DSCN7109.jpg The wash down hose is in the door on the side on the leaning post. Kind of nice to keep it out of the way. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...7/DSCN7110.jpg Drain for livewell. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...7/DSCN7107.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...7/DSCN7112.jpg |

Boat looks awesome! Great color combination!

Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
sick.
Looks great. |
Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
That just looks amazing!
I really like the bait well/Leaning post! What is under the floor, under the leaning post? On my 23 there is a large fish box under the existing leaning post. What did you do with the enclosed transom? I have been thinking about installing a large bait well in the center but I haven't really found anything I like to do with the outside boxes. I would love to see what other have come up with! How does it run with the twin 4 strokes? |
Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
I think I finally have it where I want it for now. We'll see what projects I can think of for the winter. Here is the latest pick. Leaving weigh in with our tail tucked between out legs.

Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
How are those tabs?

Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
Looks awesome, great job.
What kind of bracket is on it? Looks like it sits really nice and level. How does it run with the F150s? |
Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
Thanks guys,
I really like the trim tabs. They are easy and instant. I would recommend them for any size boat. The bracket is a twin Hermco bracket. Sits a little low in the rear, but I guess to be expected with the extra 4 stroke weight back there. The boat performs great with the 150's. No rocket ship, but gets 2+ MPG. Fished the stream and round trip 165 miles and burned 78 gallons. Cruising at 4200-4400 RPM and about 30 knots. BA |
Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
BA: what kind of trim tabs are they?
|
Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
Those are the Volvo QL's. They come in a couple of different sizes.
|
Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
Great looking boat - some lines are just timeless. The average person would have a hard time believing that the boat is 31 yrs old (design even older).
Would be curious what your (or anybody else's) impressions of the QL performance are after some time on the boat in snotty weather. Say particularly in a head sea where you have to slow down, get the bow down and let'er eat. Or are you primarily doing this with engine trim and really only addressing roll angles with the QL's? From a efficiency/fuel burn standpoint, would be nice to do all the trim work with the tabs/ interceptors and leave the engine trim alone I would suspect. I have worked the last 15 yrs in the ship / boat stabilization buisiness and have some experience with interceptors ( this is what the QL product is) . The performance of these will drop off at lower speeds where traditional trim tabs will keep providing lift at the same speed. Of course you can compensate with engine trim but inboards wouldn't have that option. Wider blades will help provide more lift at lower speeds but hull shape, chines, strakes, etc can limit how long they can be. There are a lot of boat-specific variables that go into this but just curious what your low speed (say planing speed 16knts? up to 25 knots) impression of performance on your boat would be. I have a 20sf rehab in process(SLOOOW PROCESS) and am planning on a bracket and the QL product could make things easy on the transom but don't want to give up the abilty to trim the boat at slower speeds. Thanks |
Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
I think that they work well at all speeds. I'm sure that performace would be better at higher speeds, but I get all I need at low speeds. This past weekend is a good example. Fished a tournament and had to run 27 miles into a large swell (3-5') dead on. I set the speed at 20 knots and only used the QLs. Did not trim with the motors. I could have run faster but had a group of kids and we did not take a beating. The old seacraft came through.

Looks like some serious teamwork happening there. Too bad for the fish. He should of brought some of his fish buddies and it might have been a fair fight! Nice looking fish! |
Re: Progress is being made on the \"Hail Yeah\"
Beautiful boat, great refurb.
Do you notice the change in trim from moving the live well forward? Do you have a rough idea how far above the waterline you sole is located? |
Re: Progress is being made on the \"Half Cocked\" 23' CC
great color for the hull she looks awsome keep the pics coming

Re: Progress is being made on the \"Half Cocked\" 23' CC
Beautiful sea craft!
Can you post some pictures of the transom and how it is laid out inside? Thanks |
Re: Progress is being made on the \"Half Cocked\" 23' CC
It's been a while since I was on the site, been on the road working. It's getting about tournament time and I'm starting to get fired up. Will add a few pics since the boat was finished and a couple of items I am getting done in preparation for fishing this year.

Another money fish from 2010 and my dedicated crew. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...56_jpg_595.jpg |
Re: Progress is being made on the \"Half Cocked\" 23' CC
I really like your color combo. Very fresh and not in your face.
|
Awesome looking boat, I have a 76 and I'm setting mine up with the same motors. How does she perform at low RPM's in rough seas?
|
Looks like the bracket is below the water line..??
|
This boat was for sale on another board not that long ago? Forget where I saw it. He has not checked in for a while.

Id be curious to hear some performance numbers on this boat with those twin Yamaha 150's.
