Hello,
I have lurked here and been casually looking around for a '20 SF. I have 2 other boats already and no really great place to put a "new" one, but have always loved the lines of the 20 seacraft and missed my old 23cc. Well I was messing around on ebay and found a 1972 20' sf in town with no reserve. Boat, "motor", & trailer (think Mosses). Well I decide to put a bid on it and bought the rig for $1,625.00

Later today or tomorrow I will see if that lotto ticket is any good.

Here is the auction description:
"THIS AUCTION IS FOR A 1972 SEACRAFT CENTER CONSOLE OPEN FISHERMAN. THIS BOAT JUST CAME IN YESTERDAY. THE HULL IS FIBERGLASS AND IS VERY STRONG AND STURDY, I PERSONALLY WENT OVER IT AND THE HULL IS SOLID AS A ROCK, THE ONLY SOFT SPOT IS THE TOP OF THE BAIT WELL COVER AREA, THE BOW AND AFT ARE SOLID AND ORIGINAL. THE COMPLETE BODY OF THIS BOAT FROM NOSE TO TAIL IS SEAWORTHY RIGHT NOW, NO IFS AND OR BUTS. BECAUSE IT CAME IN YESTERDAY WE DON'T KNOW IF IT RUNS OR NOT, ALTHOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE A GREAT V4 MOTOR BUT WE ARE AN AUTOMOBILE PARTS DEALERSHIP AND NOT MARINE blah blah blah.."

I also was watching that but never made it down there to look at. I did notice that there looks like damage to the bow, but i guess it could just be in the pickers or possible just the rub rail. Looks like a pretty good deal! Good Luck with her!

she definately took one in the beak. Bow rail is comming off and the rub rail can be fixed. I'll find out later if there is more to that story... looks like got caught under a dock..

Congrats on the "win"! I was interested in that one too but could never get the seller to arrange a viewing. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut. Look forward to hearing just how good a deal you got.

Yeah we'll see. Few things I noticed... console does not look original no glove box also not trim tab switch with no trim tabs.

No vents on the sides of the hull & appears to be a reinforcing plate on the transom

figured for the price, I will roll the dice and hopefully have a fun little keys boat that might one day merit a restoration.

That console looks original to a late 60s early 70s SeaCraft, especially with the fuel fill on the console, which is indicative of the tank being above deck inside the console.

That console is original. Fuel fill was on console with above deck (in console)tank from 1969 to 1973. The glove box came along in 1973 and the vents and the below deck tank came along in 1974. The listing of a 1972 boat looks correct. Thats is one great "canvas"....go for it and post pix ;)

I have a 1970 and the fill was there on the console, the tank was mounted under the console, not under the deck. Looks like a good "win"!

my 73 had the vents in the stern, console glovebox and the tank belowdeck, so maybe it was built toward the end of the year in 73 :D?

Niether my 18 or 20 had/have vents, my 23 did - I also put a transom plate on my 23 when I put the V8 on it, along the front and back- not that it needed it but the motor was real high and lots of HP

I thought I was the only one looking for a seacraft =)
I saw it listed on ebay this morning as well.
I never got to look at it. The seller didnt make it easy to look at, I guess there was a reason for that. It does look like there is damage to the bow but I am sure anyone who would buy it would be planning a full restoration anyways?

The seller and I agreed not complete the sale. And my deposit was refunded less money for his time and auction etc...

I will not bid on boats on ebay again without seeing them first.

Fairly inexpensive lesson.

So the ad has changed to confirm the engine doesn't run. But the bidding is right back up to where it was last time. I'd also like to hear what the specifics are to learn more about what to look for.

Figure most will need some transom repair, probably wiring and getting the fuel system clean would be three things most of these 20s will need. Problem is that it usually only starts there and you have to decide if your all in ie$$$ or not. It can be a tough choice because the finsihed product is so appealing but the price is never cheap, but it is a SeaCraft and thats why were all here anyways :D
